i'm just a little bitter :meanie:

this is so true!!!! Haha!

I just received an acknowledgement email from UCLA PRIME letting us know that they will start the screening for interviews. We will find out by a phone call by Jan 9. There will be three interview dates: one in late Jan and two in late February. Each date will have 2 sessions of 13 interviewees per session.

Good luck to everyone!

😱

I have yet to compete my secondary app...late late late

I have not taken any Spanish classes in college....

will this disqualify me as an applicant since it is a prerequisite ...???:scared:

I do not know if this question has been answered before or if others are allowed to answer, but for those who have interviewed, are the interviews full MMI or some sort of hybrid?

I didn't take a language in college (and I'm here at DGSOM). However I "passed out" of the requirement through my minimal 3 years of HS spanish.

Does anyone know if the 1 year of English requirement means 1 year of English Composition/writing intensive courses only, or can it include other Humanities courses as well?

English usually means literature or writing intensive classes. The writing intensive classes do not have to be literature based, but do have to have writing as a major component of the class. For example, I took a class on society and genetics that was labeled by my college as "writing intensive" in which the class focused on expressing written views and opinions of biotechnology in society. So the subject matter wasn't your prototypical English class, but did focus on writing. I do not believe your entry level history or political science class that makes you write a term paper counts towards the English requirement.

my guy on the inside said it's still very early in the app cycle, confirm/deny? Additionally he said that there are MANY more interviews left to be handed out... confirm/deny?

Ffs do not bump this thread omfg

Yeah I hate it when people try and be helpful too 🙄

Depends on your definition of many, but yeah, let's go with confirm and confirm. The cycle's definitely far from over.

I don't think you read my earlier post carefully....

You (generic "you", not you who I'm quoting) = applicant with questions about DGSOM
Me = current student at UCLA offering to answer said questions

If you genuinely think my help is useless, let me know and I'll be happy to respond with a picture of a cat.

Y'all should listen to beast....he is a beast. And he knows what he is talking about. Having him to ask questions to is a good thing for all of you.

Whoa, what the heck...? Happy holidays, everyone.

dbeast, thanks for sticking with us and being willing to answer questions during break. I do have a question and I apologize if it's been addressed already. How much freedom do clinical students get in choosing where they do rotations?

This too please 👍

PS I BUMPED THIS THREAD

This one seems appropriate:

As for rotations, it's supposedly a combination of a lottery but you also rank your choices... I guess it's kind of like the match. My roommate is a 3rd year and he says everybody's pretty satisfied with their rotation assignments. I can think of 5 affiliated hospitals off the top of my head that we rotate through, and they're all good for different reasons, so the competition for each spot gets pretty diluted. You might have to do a bit of driving though (you'll come to appreciate a little alone time in the car).

Did anyone asked during their interviews in December, if they were on schedule to start sending out acceptances on January 15th? I checked last year's thread and apparently the first acceptances went out around March 10th since they are supposed to fill about 2/3 of their class by March 30th according to AMCAS. Does anyone have any info about this?

The Rumor going around the school is they will start handing out acceptances once they interview around 85% of their total projected interview spots. This is because UCLA uses a score based admissions in order to establish a cut off that gives them the amount of acceptances they want to hand out. The rumor is that this 85% will happen around mid-January which is why they tell the applicants that they are planning on starting acceptances around the 15th. Interviews are scheduled to conclude mid to late february. Don't really look into last year's thread because it doesn't reflect the same schedule for interviews as this year because of the last minute switch to MMI last year.

Looks like they're back at work in the office. 3 months of waiting has net an II.

Just got an II as well! Super excited, one of my top choices!

Sorry if this has been asked, but where were people sending the transcripts?
thanks!

My undergraduate school has this listed in the dropdown for UCLA:

UC Los Angeles
David Geffen School of Medicine
Office of Admissions
12-105 Center for Health Sciences
Box 957035
Los Angeles, CA 90095
US

Matches the address they provide you in the interview confirmation.

Does the English requirement have to be completed at my degree-granting university, and in a "real" class? UCLA is the only school I applied to that has such a requirement, and all of my English credits come from AP. My plan was to wait for an interview/rejection, and adjust my spring schedule accordingly. I was also considering getting the English credits via an online course during the semester or at a CC over the summer, if such options exist. However, I have approximately 3 weeks to finalize my spring schedule, and so far I have heard no decision. Are all of the options that I have listed here valid?

Those that just received interview invites, when were you all complete?

submitting my secondary tomorrow...soooooooo late 🙁

For those of you with an II recently, what is the earliest and latest date for interview slots?

When UCLA offered me an II they didn't give me dates to choose from. They had me send them a list of dates on which I could not interview and then assigned me a date based on that info. I received my II in mid-December and they scheduled me for January 30th.

My interview is scheduled for February 14th! So late, but I have to be out the country.

The bright side: They'll be interviewing to at least February 14th, so more invites may be going out.

My concern: Does anyone think interviewing so late adversely affects my chances?

Think I should give up on this school. I haven't been rejected, but I have yet to receive a secondary. With it being Jan, I don't think there's much hope. Got to put all my baskets into the UCLA/Charles Drew program.

Based on the 2010 data that is on us news, they interviewed 854 or so applicants and accepted 240. Are they interviewing less than that this year because of the MMI format? In the last cycle (2011), the DGSOM website said they interviewed 600 applicants, but that was a delayed cycle. I was wondering if you had any insight into this. Also, can you elaborate on the score system a bit more? Btw, as a side note, as a guess, how many of your classmates went to UCLA for undergrad?

thanks from a bruin =)

Magic. It's all magic.

Actually, last year was really unusual so who knows... Sorry I can't help more 🙁

There's about 40ish students from UCLA this year, but that includes Drew and Prime.

Got an interview for UCLA PRIME! I turned it down since I can't afford another airplane ticket from out of the country. Good luck to whomever gets my interview!

For student selected to interview, are we allowed to submit updates?

Interview invite 1/10, complete in August :woot: There's still hope!

Hey dbeast, would you happen to know whether we can take our English prereq (I'm one semester short of the requirement, thanks to AP credit) at a cc? I graduated from undergrad already, and shelling out big $$$ at a CSU or UC is...undesirable, to say the least.
