I'm curious, what are your impressions on the Drew/UCLA program?

Drew is legit. They do the exact same thing as us until 3rd year, where the only difference is they have certain rotation sites specifically for Drew students. I think their "mission" is towards underserved populations, but so far, they're in the same group as everyone else. Not sure if your diploma/liscencing is different.

For student selected to interview, are we allowed to submit updates?

Last year we did. Go for it.

Interview invite 1/10, complete in August :woot: There's still hope!

Hey dbeast, would you happen to know whether we can take our English prereq (I'm one semester short of the requirement, thanks to AP credit) at a cc? I graduated from undergrad already, and shelling out big $$$ at a CSU or UC is...undesirable, to say the least.

Congrats! That's a question for Lili in the admissions office, but I think it's on a case by case basis. See if you can get her on the phone.

I was just at an interview here, and they said they'd be happy to take updates from us. Go for it!

Does anyone know if decisions will for sure be released on January 15 considering it's a Sunday?

Bump.

UCLA is like so cool yo, I hope they are not messing with our heads

I believe it's a status update online first, then snail mail

Ffs do not bump this thread omfg

Decisions come via mail, right? So doesn't seem like anything is going to mailed or received on the 15th.

I keep looking at last year's thread and they didn't start sending out letters until March. Hope that doesn't happen to us this year 🙂

Last year was weird, I think they'll start sending things out sooner.

Anyone know until when UCLA sends out interview invites? (I apologize if this Q has been asked and addressed previously).

The Rumor going around the school is they will start handing out acceptances once they interview around 85% of their total projected interview spots. This is because UCLA uses a score based admissions in order to establish a cut off that gives them the amount of acceptances they want to hand out. The rumor is that this 85% will happen around mid-January which is why they tell the applicants that they are planning on starting acceptances around the 15th. Interviews are scheduled to conclude mid to late february. Don't really look into last year's thread because it doesn't reflect the same schedule for interviews as this year because of the last minute switch to MMI last year.

I would guess that if interviews are ending in mid-late February, the last invites will go out around late Jan or early Feb. :xf: :xf:

Did they mention where to send updates? Should they be emailed or snail mailed?

Also, I submitted all my transcripts back in November when I interviewed, but I do have one new grade for a class I took fall semester. Should we submit new transcripts if we have been interviewed, but not accepted?

Hi guys,

Just a couple of questions.

1. After sending out secondaries, do they send interview invites via email or regular mail.

2. Does everyone that obtains and sends out a secondary, get a response either an offer to interview or a rejection letter?

I submitted my secondary and all forms by 10/20 and still not have heard a response about it via email or mail. I'm hoping it didnt get sent out in the mail and somehow I just have not received it.

Thanks!

Think I should give up on this school. I haven't been rejected, but I have yet to receive a secondary. With it being Jan, I don't think there's much hope. Got to put all my baskets into the UCLA/Charles Drew program.

I also have yet to receive a secondary...when you access your application status are all of the boxes blank??

Interview invites come by email. I don't know about rejections (has anyone been rejected yet?), but your online status will change if they want to interview you. Good luck :luck:

Hi. I got an II here and am super excited!!! Can anyone tell me the disadvantages of not being able to attend the evening social other than not having the opportunity to talk to current med students? (Maybe seen as not enthusiastic enough to attend...haha i dont know) I want to make the most out of this chance but I have all my classes on Thursdays and it would be bad to skip some of my classes. Thanks in advance for the help!

yes, all of the boxes are blank. I wish they would just reject me already instead of stringing me along like this, but if people are getting II after completion in August, maybe there's hope for us....maybe?

The dinner is completely optional and just a way for you to talk to current med students of all 4 years. Also you are free to attend one on a different week if you are a local applicant. Also the first thing we tell those who attend is that we do not report back to admissions what goes on at the dinner. Trust me, I'm a coordinator for the dinners and we have a sign in sheet for the sole purpose of keeping track of how many people come for budgetary reasons. It's completely informal and casual.

When are they going to send me my acceptance letter? in my opinion, dgsom should first accept UCLA alumni, and then only accept outsiders to the bruin family if theres any extra room. 😀

It's really no big deal if you miss--it WON'T make you less competitive as an applicant. You WILL miss out on a great opportunity to talk to current DGSOM students, potential networking opportunities, free food (which you will learn to fully appreciate as a medical student...), and an overall good time chatting with potential future classmates.

Again, the social is completely for you guys. No stress involved. Enjoy!

If we interviewed in the month of October, can we expect a decision released by this month or is it just too unpredictable to say?

Hoping for an II
It's gonna be a long wait for me

COMPLETE since 1/5

Thanks. I'm still pre-interview, but I'll send it now. How would you recommend sending it? email or snail mail.

You should probably ask their office first, bc im almost positivr they only take post interview updates, and even then, updates dont count for much (according to a current geffen student i contacted

Does Ucla send 85% of acceptances all at once this week? FFS hurry the **** up

No UCLA will start handing out acceptances when 85% of the total interview pool has been interviewed. I also heard they will start handing out acceptances when the committee has enough people that would be accepted to fill an entire class, so that means when they have roughly 120 people that they feel are deserving of admissions right off the bat.

I would not expect any news today or tomorrow because of the weekend and university holiday but possibly later this week or next week. UCLA is very cautious about doing things until it's good and ready too, so while they may have told you January 15th, if they feel they aren't ready to accept, they can certainly push it back for days or weeks (or in the case of last year, months).

Hmmm. Kind of silly that they would tell you Jan 15th even though it was a Sunday on a holiday weekend -_-.

Will do. Thanks 🙂

Also, if the interview is MMI, does that it's pretty much a closed file thing? Probably a silly question, but I want to know if I should take a second look at my AMCAS and Secondary again.

Si, its closed file. good luck

Where do we get information for the evening social? I'll be interviewing here on Feb. 3rd and was looking to attend this, but can't find info on it anywhere on the website or in any of my emails. Do they occur on every single interview day?

If you check your application status, click on the Scheduled button and if you scroll down, there should be a place where you can schedule your evening social.

I am interviewing February 14th! I hope it is a perfect match 😍
Will you be my Valentine UCLA? hehe

I would do just about anything for dgsom to send me an interview invite soooooooooon

just got an interview invite!! i've been complete since september, so there's still hope if you've been complete for a long time. oh and i'm oos with 3.9+ and 35+

Nice! I was just invited a short while ago. Interviewing on Feb 14th. Fingers crossed that there's still room for us late interviewees.

They tell you 15th because 15th (or as close as possible Fri/Mon if a weekend) is the usual meeting day. Like last year, big things come out a few days after the 15th and 30th.

Does anyone know at what approximate time the interview day ends? It starts at 11:45 am (kinda late?) and I'm trying to book my flight home 🙂 thanks!!

I had an interview in one of the morning slots (8:45am) and we were finished a bit before 2pm (after tour and lunch). I think that the afternoon interview group would finish around 4-5pm.

Hey KeepOnSwimmin,

I was part of the 11:45am group. It's not late because they have another group in the morning as well. I'm looking at the agenda they gave us, and it says that you should be back to the Center for Health Sciences by 4:00pm, and that was precisely the case on my interview day.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your interview! :luck:

Thanks, seaberg89 and Ironclad!! That was super helpful 🙂

Just got back from interview this week and they told us that they have started accepting people for the class of 2016. They will start sending the snail mail (thin envelopes) either this week or the next. They expect to accept 240 to fill their 121 spots as early as possible so decisions are rolling after the first batch comes out. Good luck ppl.
