Don't really have much to say... except that it'd be nice if UCLA hurried itself up a bit. I don't see why they insist on interviewing nearly everyone before making decisions. (OK, I can definitely see why but still... lame!)

they seem to have interviewed too many people in the first place....interviews are extended this year by a month and a half longer than they were supposed to go for. plus they started much, much earlier this year. I highly doubt they did 600 like they said. reality=probably much more

It may seem like that but how do you know for sure? Keep in mind that they combine the numbers with the other programs when you look at it in the MSAR.

no im not looking at the msar. on the geffen website it says they interviewed 600 people last year. last year they started interviews a month (or two) later than this year. this year, not only did they start interviewing earlier, but they are also extending interviews by month longer than what they originally said (interviews were supposed to end last month). Now it seems like theyre giving out interviews just for kicks.

I clearly recall being told on interview day that they were interviewing around 600 people this year as well. I understand how you might think they're interviewing more people by the extension of the interview dates but that doesn't necessarily mean that more interview days are added, just the range of the dates are extended.

I completely agree with you . Waiting is terrible 🙁

Lol at you believing what they said. They also said theyd end interviews in january. Now you saw what happened to that. They added more total interview days according to one of the ms2's that i talked to. there were originally supposed to be 40 interview days, there are a lot more now. just stop arguing now, k? You are wrong. Get over it.

Does anyone know what dates are they booking interviews for now?

I'm not trying to argue with you. Let's just be positive about this whole situation. We're all in the same boat waiting.

I can understand the frustration that comes with all this waiting, but no need to get hostile towards one another! Regardless, I agree with rogerthis...just cause they added more interview dates doesn't mean they interviewed MORE people. It's possible they just spread out the interview days more or interviewed fewer people per day, you know...

Lol. I see your reasoning there. Excellent argument! -_-

Anyway, don't be so stubborn. Rogerthis and I are just trying to provide suggestions to explain what's happening. We weren't trying to prove you wrong. Don't be so stiff and stubborn.

Bruiner is exactly right. We're all just going off of hearsay, whether it's from what we heard on interview day or what an MS2 claims.

The original plan was to interview into February and you should believe my advice just as much as any random MS2. 😎

On my interview day, I asked the admissions office and they said they are interviewing around 700 people. After the interview, everyone is on the waitlist according to the dean.

Man.. I'll never understand why some people get argumentative/rude on here. Please realize that virtually every medical school admissions director in the country knows of SDN, and a good deal of them go through their school's specific thread. It's not that hard to match individuals with their AMCAS using a combination of linked MDApps pages, their posting history, and usernames containing.. well, demographic information. 🙄

(Guilty as charged)

The admissions people in the office mentioned there's a large amount of waitlist movement, but it can't be THAT much. I also heard there are 2 lists and if you call them you can find out if you stand a chance or if you should "look into other options".

wow...so i was right all along. It seems like some of the people on sdn like to argue for no reason.

Lol...he/she seems bitter at other applicants. Man, I'd HATE to have a person like this as my classmate 😉 I wonder how this person reacts when he/she's wrong at other times. I'd get exhausted just talking to this person...

me: "Well, I think that..."
other person: "NO, NO, NO! You're wrong! You're wrong! Get over it!"
me: "I was just gonna say I think the pasta sounds like a good choice for lunch..."

I know! There's this one person in particular who likes to tell people "You're wrong. Get over it!" Sheesh, people these days.

Replace "Lisa" with "UCLA." Release decisions, I want to move on with my life!!

Do you think it would be too early for us to call the office and ask for our status?

I wish we find out soon!!!

Thanks!

I do know admissions has planned on having interviews until 2/24 since September and that there will be a total of 41 interview days by then (one date was actually removed).

That said, I know it's tough people, but stay optimistic! We all went through what you're going through now, and even though it was frustrating, stressful, and a little scary, finally getting the acceptance was definitely worth it. Maybe DGSOM admissions is slower than some other schools, but it's because they want to make sure they evaluate every applicant thoroughly, giving each of you a chance to show yourself and your experiences off both on paper and in person. I have a feeling that most of you are very qualified to attend medical school, but DGSOM wants to make sure that you will fit in and be happy here as a student for 4 years.

In addition to that little pep talk, I also want to say be nice to each other. Many of you will be classmates next year and you WILL be spending quite a bit of time together (sometimes too much time...). Start being supportive of each other now.

Last year's SDNers were such pleasant posters on DGSOM's thread, minus the occasional troll (calbears). And I absolutely adore my class this year. Positive correlation? Maybe.

But I'm just an MS1--what do I know.

Good luck everyone, and I can't wait to meet DGSOM Class of 2016! 🙂

Thank you for the post 🙂

We love UCLA 🙂

Just checked my status after a two week hiatus and saw that I got an interview invite on 1/31!!! So excited!!!

I've been complete since 8/3... still can't believe my status actually changed. Hoping my delay in responding doesn't screw up the scheduling.

Listen to homegurl she knows what's up. If you have a bad attitude, I can promise you that you won't be a good fit at UCLA. Stay positive, it's *almost* time for acceptances...:luck:

EDIT: Congrats to all the late interview invites!

For those who have interviewed, did you use up all of your time for each station? I can't see myself using up all of it.

You will, if you know how to connect your experiences to the scenarios. Good luck!

Are transcripts required before your interview day? Are they required before the committee will make a decision on your file? Or does it just apply before you matriculate and after you've been accepted?

It says that they're requested when you look at your status after you get an interview invite. I just sent it as soon as I saw that, I think the committee will still make its decision regardless but if they request it before acceptance, you might as well send them in.

Mine just says final decision letter sent (I haven't interviewed). Is this the same thing?

that's what i assumed mine to be...only "final decision" possible without an interview... :/

Thanks. I guess what I really wanted to know was if we were supposed to talk for the entire 10 mins. Or does the interviewer ask follow-up questions like it's a real discussion?

Got this too. Yeah I think it's a rejection if we haven't interviewed. Sad. 🙁

If you give pretty thorough answers, they will definitely ask follow-up questions if there's time left. Almost all my interviewers did just that, and I think it worked out well. Probably better that way than to ramble on and on for the sake of killing time. But overall the interviews moved pretty quickly, so don't worry too much about time.

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

Are we supposed to be sending transcripts by the interview day? Or after an acceptance?

I think on the interview email it says before interview day, but I called and they said after acceptance. I was not sure so I just sent mine in to be safe, and on my application status it shows received.

We actually signed something saying that we would not talk about the interview process. With that said, look at the information about MMI that is available online. I didn't find it to be much help in preparing for it, but most of it was pretty accurate.

MMI's remove a lot of the safety nets we have in normal interviews, like the ability to rely on our experiences as conversation topics or lots of preparation. Instead, it forces you to just use your natural intelligence and logic. Be happy, be confident, and you'll do fine.

I disagree, i believe it keeps you from using scripted answers but you should definitely still use your experiences to supplement your answers where appropriate. Remember, they know nothing about you or your app.
