anyone else betting (hoping, desperately wanted, willing to trade their first-born for) that acceptances go out March 1st? Last year was the notorious "slow-year" due to switching to MMI and they still found out on March 16th, so I'm hoping it will be a little earlier.

mostly just wanting to post to pass the time. ahhhhh

I called, and I was told that they will start handing out acceptances next week. However, I still don't think it will be until the 16th.

Is it safe to say that the interviews are officially over? If so then it's only a matter of time.

I was gonna saythe same thing. They havent sent out acceptances til the middle of either feb or march in the past couple of yrs. Also its always been on a friday so i think we are right about the 16th...

once you see a status change indicating decision letter sent, can you just call and find out?

Im not sure what you mean. After it says decision letter sent, its over. What would you call about?

To find out your status a few days before the letter actually reaches you, I'm guessing.

In that case, based on last year the first letters sent post interview were supposedly a small batch of acceptances. The second batch of letters (usually in april) was a mixed bag of waitlists and acceptances

Am I misinformed? I thought schools were required to notify you of your status by March 15th at the latest...not so?

So theres this march rule that all med schools must have at least as many acceptances as would fill their class. In the case of ucla, thats around half of all acceptances, so the aamc requires them to send at least 121 acceptances by the end of march (i got this info from the threads of the last couple cycles)

Oh and one more thing. For md phd the aamc rule is march 15 instead of march 30th

Oh my GAWD. This is the worst news I've heard in a while. I'm sitting on an acceptance to a school I like but would really like to be able to make my decision fully informed. If I understand you correctly, though, we could be waiting basically all summer if we're not in the "top 121" without even official "waitlist" status?

Well, one of my friends actually got in off the waitlist in july, lol he had already moved to pitt and everything. But the whole 121 acceptances by march 30th is really a regulation that sets the guideline. What we know is they have to send at least 121 by that date. For all we know, they send a lot more. But in any case, yes you might be waiting all summer long. At least you already got into a school you like

The way they made it sound last week, if you see "letter sent" before July, it's an acceptance. And it will be a small envelope, so don't freak out. They'll send out more than 121, then after people start turning them down, they'll move to the waiting list, which will include everyone else who didn't get an acceptance. They seemed to say that they won't actually reject anyone they interviewed until July.

Awesome, good to know! Thanks!

I heard from admissions office that acceptances will start this week

It says it is down for maintenance until 9PM (I'm assuming Pacific time)... guess I'll be up until midnight here in Boston!

they do this every few weeks and it never means anything, im not saying it wont mean anything this time though

you're probably right, but it would be awesome to find out you're accepted on Feb. 29th! I know a lot of schools have been having fun releasing acceptances on Thanksgiving, near Christmas, and Valentine's Day. Let's hope UCLA is jumping on the bandwagon...except for Leap Year.... not for St. Patrick's Day haha

It should be back up by now! But it's not. :scared:

well, until then, i will be going h.a.m. on angry birds for iphone

Nope. Anyone else? Maybe this was a false alarm...

Nothing here. I think they're just toying with us!

On another note, if we see a final decision letter sent at this point, is it safe to assume it's an acceptance? They said they don't send rejections until July, and it seems like being waitlisted wouldn't technically classify as a "final" decision.

I'm not positive about this, but I don't think UCLA sends waitlist notifications (correct me if I'm wrong!) At my interview day, they said all interviewees move immediately to the accept/wait/hold list. So I think right now, it's kind of like everybody is on the waitlist, and everybody is being reviewed. If you're selected for acceptance, you'll see final decision letter sent and get a thin envelope. If not, you'll be re-reviewed along with everyone else who has interviewed until late July, at which point those who haven't been accepted will be rejected. So I think, as someone pointed out earlier, any post-interview notification of "letter sent" is an acceptance at this point.

Oh yeah, I do remember them saying something about that now. Thanks for the info. Well, let's keep our fingers crossed and hope we get some letters soon! :xf:

so i just called admissions, and he said we'd find out next week.
looking at the history of this forum, it seems they have been responding to status inquiries with "next week" quite a lot
