I wonder how UCLA interprets the March 31 deadline. Do they simply have to post stamp it by March 31 or do they take into consideration the time it takes to receive the letter? Theoretically, UCLA might mail letters right on the 31st, but I'm hoping for Friday (or sooner) like everyone else.

Last year they sent them out on the 30th, im curious as to why some people think they might go out this week

My letter says to call or email Gloria once this has been completed to request an estimate

They are really fast. I received my estimate today, exactly 5 business days after I submitted.

Ah, that's weird. Was it emailed to you?

I submitted my FAFSA and need access back in mid-February and still no estimate.

However, I did call yesterday and Gloria seemed swamped with submissions from 2nd through 4th years (it was their deadline yesterday), so it probably will just take a little time.

I think they are only getting faster. I asked for an estimate via email shortly past midnight, and I got an email saying that it would take 3-5 days. 2 hours later, I had an estimate!

So were these... good estimates? 🙂

Something interesting about this year is that it seems they didn't interview as many UCLA people as last year. I know very few ucla students who interviewed this year, only a couple were at my interview. What has your guys' experience been, were there a lot/any UCLA students at your interviews?

As future physicians, we shouldn't be making conclusions off such a small sample of individuals. Because offers were mailed out Friday doesn't mean squat about future offer letters. Because there were only two UCLA graduates in a particular interview group does not mean anything about the entire interview pool. C'mon people... don't infer off of nothing.

I was the only non-UCLA student at my interview day! One of the students who gave us a tour said that the majority of her classmates were from UCLA

Expect any school to look for diversity among its incoming class. This includes undergraduate institutions. However, as diversity goes I think this a very minor determinant. Personally, I don't think it's very useful information for an applicant. More useful would be contact information for upperclassman to ask their opinion on clinical rotations. I think you're overly worrying. Just calm down. Send a letter of intent and relax.

For those interested, I received my financial aid estimate a few days ago, but it was hiding in my spam folder.

Be sure to check that it hasn't gone to spam as well. I'm using gmail.

Cheers folks!
Oh, and happy Spring!

Yup same thing happened to me. Finally found it yesterday.

Oh Slev. As to your question. Gloria said they were working on merit-based awards at the moment. She made it sound as if those would be sent as soon as they were prepared/assessed.

Good luck folks!

The Accepted Student Checklist is back up for those accepted.

You can access it through your application status page.

Take care.

lol the entire status page is down for me.

I think from previous experience this means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

During orientation week they showed us a slide of the student breakdown. I wish I would have saved it for you guys, but from what I remember we have about 34 students from UCLA in our class this year--it's the most represented school followed by USC, then Cal. But that does not tell us anything about the number of UCLA undergrads who applied, interviewed, and were accepted.

Seriously, those are all very respected Universities within the UC system and rising nationally... besides it is the applicant not their undergrad institution which determines whether they will become good doctors.

I was an MIMG major at ucla, and at research symposiums id see some students from those schools (i knew some from high school), and basically they said that if you are a bio major at riverside/uci/davis, a high gpa is a dime a dozen for various reasons. They said that because of that, it was really hard to stand out, so you pretty much had to get publications or something of the sort, making it harder for med schools to distinguish you. But this is all anecdotal, they were just disgruntled premeds. Now it seems that word of mouth is next to useleess for this process.

Hahaha, I see. I think the UCs attract a lot of outstanding students for undergrad, so it would be hard to stand out at any of them. Plus, the student bodies are enormous, so there's bound to be several highly qualified people. Sure, places like Cal and UCLA get more recognition, but that could be for more than just academic reputation. I decided not to go to UCLA for undergrad because I was kind of ignorant and only associated it with good sports. Or just sports, at the very least.

haha this thread has always been so hostile! the UC system pushes everyone to the brink doesn't it?!

This isn't a UC-system specific thing. This board is full of stressed-out over-achieving (mostly) 20-somethings. Stuff like this pops up everywhere on these boards, in this UC thread there just happen to be a lot of UC students.

Not everyone is hostile. Just the same person like to tell everyone else not to discuss any thing else beside the application cycle.

Given that UCLA claims to have more offer letters to send this month, the next wave should either be today or sometime next week. I know it was unnecessary for me to state the obvious but I just wanted to say something. I check this forum way too much and get a tad disappointed when there hasn't been a new post since my last refresh.

You're not alone. Im gonna be hoping for a letter sent until 5pm and after that just erase this cycle from my mind until next week

I was hoping someone would call the office, i dont get out of class til 4:15 =(

Weren't the last round of "letter sent" updates on a Friday? or was it a Monday? I think a good hint to a change in status is when the status update site goes down, has it been down today? I really cannot tell as I have vowed not to look at the status page again, I will just sit and wait for a letter in the mail with either good or bad news.
