I think you dont understand what standard of living actually means in the first place. Im referring to parameters normal people care about, such as price of rent per square foot, quality of said apartments as far as maintenance and amenities, crime (not necessarily violent), pollution, traffic, structural issues such as the willingess of the city to fix GIANT potholes, noise, price of parking and availability of said parking. Im not going to tell you how westwood fares in all these areas because its kind of obvious, but ill say this. Dude, just stop it. You wont win. Theres no point in even pushing this issue. I love LA more than other places with a superior standard of living because of the excitement, but i will never try to sell westwood as something it isnt. Its an amazing place, but dont ever try the standard of living argument, because it doesnt work, and in fact will weaken your cause. Let people deal with the reality, westwood is not for everyone. I love it, but at the same time i accept what it really is.

Do you say things intentionally just to get people to disagree with you?

[PS- that's a rhetorical question, no need to somersault your way into an argument over it]

Guys, why are we even arguing about whether LA is a good or bad place? It seems kinda pointless since the experience is subjective.

Does anyone even remember how this all started?

I recall something along the lines of: LA has good and bad.
Followed by: I like LA.
Then: Something more about LA's problems (but UCLA is still good) and I also/still like LA (?)

I don't think anyone is dissing LA. Even so, I'm sure LA won't mind if you are. But let's not worry about who's right and wrong. Come the start of the school year, we'll all be wrong all the time, so let's just get used to it and learn how to be sad about it together!

Is that how you respond when youve realized that youre completely wrong about something? Dude just accept it. Part of maturity is knowing when something you said is completely, off the wall incorrect.

Go look at each and every one of the parameters I've listed, and please, for your own sake, at least try to make some (futile) attempt to refute any of the criteria I described.

👍 my thoughts from the beginning. I think my comment along these lines actually started the heated debate.

See above post (the one you quoted) about arguing for the sake of arguing.

Exactly man, thats what im trying to say. Westwood is a frikin awesome place, but I hate it when people try to mask the reality of the place. Its grimy as hell for the price, the standard of living is low for what youre paying, but that doesnt mean i dont love it. 😎😎 I never said I disliked it, but I will always try to put people in line for their own sake, when they say its some sort of paradise.

We arent arguing about whether someone likes it or not. I said I love it, but I accept it for what it is, theres really no subjectivity for the criteria I listed, unless youre comparing westwood to manhattan, which is a completely different story altogether.

Just do it man. Try to disprove any of the criteria I listed. You obviously need a reality check, so why dont you start here?

Nah. For the following reasons:

1. Don't care
2. Busy

Refer to above shrug smiley if this post leaves you unsatisfied.

People, please, why do you entertain this troll they call uclabruins2011. Not even calbears was this cunning.

i'm declining my acceptance this week. i hope any of you but uclabruins2011 gets the spot 🙂

Wow, please tell me it didnt take you that long to make a logical decision. Dude, you got into Washington (top 10 school), and youre in state....thats a no-brainer. And btw, youre not a very nice person.

Sorry to see you go, where'd you end up choosing? Congrats on all the success!

You've managed to insult/upset/anger/or irritate at least 5 people in the last 24 hours to the extent of them posting. Even if every thing you said is correct (a big if) that is still a poor outcome. Despite not using names, we're not totally anonymous on here and interpersonal skills are important. Think about it...

And because I can:

Im sure im not the only asian applicant from norcal here....and i think you need to look at the context there. Slev's comment was disrespectful, so I reacted accordingly.

You might very well be the only Korean male currently living in nor-cal who recently graduated from UCLA on the waitlist. Or at most, one of a few. Almost certainly the only one of that group who will be holding onto a UCSD spot after May 15th which UCLA will see.

I was directly told by an adcom member at a top tier school that they do track SDN behavior and have identified students from the past both through their information and through their IP's.

If someone insults you or is clearly annoyed with you it is not professional to insult them back or provoke them further. Remember at the interviews... when asked about professionalism... a calm dialogue of compromise and consolation... sometimes it's better to be considerate rather than correct.

True story bro

This thread is now about food.

Also, I think it's worth noting that certain schools actually have current students on their admissions committee, and many of these current students use SDN. My personal attitude toward SDN (and Facebook, etc.) is if something I say *might* be construed as even slightly offensive, just don't say anything at all.

Excellent!

I need an awesome, yet simple fish recipe. I'm currently on a fitness regimen and need some deliciousness. My current fish recipes are ok, but I want awesome, any suggestions?

Oh and I'm currently chowing on Tilapia. Any suggestions on even tastier white fish?

Probably not so healthy, but my current favorite dish is Salt and Pepper Shrimp (heads and shells inclusive). I love love love shrimp heads! mmmmmmm...

Theres something that I noticed in the facebook group, its that no one from my interview group (mid October) is in the group. I remember someone talking about how the committee reviews people in roughly the order of MMI score or interview date? Can someone expand on this?

Can you post the link to the facebook group? Thanks.

i know for a fact that there are or at least have been 4th years on the committee for DGSOM. how much time they have to go facebook stalking, i dont know. But listen man, no offense, some of the things you posted in 2011 arent exactly med school appropriate. im not trying to start a flame war, just saying....before u point fingers....

dude, bro, you need to chill.the.F.out. How is it that I can tell you are the most annoying creature on Earth just from your posts? Stop trying to rationalize why there may be a spot left for you.

What in gods name does that even mean?

Dont be disrespectful, you wouldnt dare act this way in real life, so you should keep a similar level of courtesy on this forum.

I would dare. You are that annoying and you will bring down UCSD's ratings.

No, you wouldnt dare to do anything but passive aggressively hate all your classmates, and you should think about your sociopathic nature when you reapply this year.

I actually just opened my 1st app. I'm not even applying to UCSD because of you.

Muagonist: I know it's difficult, but try not to get too upset. You'll deal with people who rub you the wrong way all your life and probably even end up working under a few at some point. There are even classes at med school that teach you how to deal with unruly patients, peers, or bosses. It's an extremely tough skill to learn. For example, imagine you were dealing with a Tiger Mom in training who really only cared about success and only viewed people as resources rather than humans, imagine you were dealing with someone with autism, imagine you were dealing with a "Dexter" like sociopath who just didn't understand human emotion or subtext. These are all circumstances you might encounter in your life. If you're looking for change, I don't think confrontation helps. In the context of this forum, probably ignoring those who annoy you or clicking the little exclamation point button and reporting them would be more fruitful.
Also, please don't let SDN users dissuade you from applying to specific schools. There will always be colleagues you like and dislike at every school. UCSD and UCLA are both great schools.

uclabruins, nobody can answer your repeated questions concerning your chances except the adcom committee. I understand you're desperate to come here, but I don't think asking them is going to get you any information you don't already have. Asking these questions seems to be annoying people. I'm pretty sure the current students don't want this thread to devolve into any more angst and don't want to discourage others from applying who otherwise would. Since you seem to be a member of the facebook group, I think you'd have more luck with any questions regarding undisclosed workings of the admissions process there. The fact that you haven't leads me to believe that you do understand how frustrating many of your posts are to others and that anonymity is important to you. Maybe it would be best to just wait a few weeks. May 15th is right around the corner and tempers will cool in the meantime.

Also, I would consider your above quote a personal attack.

And to lighten the mood more food!

Ok, from now on, unless your post is a direct question regarding UCLA and/or the admissions process, I will only be responding in the form of animated .gif

Shout out to the 100+ people reading this forum but not posting anything. The last couple days have been a great distraction from the waiting game!

I will give uclabruins this... he is a great, if sometimes unpleasant, distraction from studying for finals and thinking about my admissions status at UCLA.

So I was bored and did some research on UCLAbruins2011. It turns out that on the UCSD facebook page there is only 1 asian person from UCLA that went to high school in nor cal.

Woah let's turn down the stalker talk..no need for that
