I heard that brother.

You just reminded me of Role Models. Seriously though, I hope you interview there as well. I drove by again the other day and everything looks very nice. They'd be crazy to not give you a look.

I appreciate that, same to you.

I was complete 6/28 and I'm still under review. It doesn't look like they are going in order of received.

Was complete 7/14 and still nothing but "ready for review." Definitely not going in any specified order.

EFI. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. 🙂

Woo! 👍👍👍

No creeper, but I'm rooting for you.

Super-creeper, but I've listened to the Dayman video in your sig like 20 times this week.

AORTA!!!! My stats are not that impressive too. Good Luck to everyone else!

Lol I really appreciate the support.

I'm glad you listen to it. It's up there for any other fans to enjoy, so no super-creeping on your part. You've reminded me though, I need to find a new one 🙂

Anyone know how many applicants are AORTA-EFI and how many of those are interviewed? I have the old MSAR 😳.

It doesn't seem to say anything about AORTA-EFI in the new MSAR. It just indicates that about 13.5% of in-state applicants receive interviews.

I'm a little skeptical of MSAR numbers. I believe their "Applicants" numbers reflects the number of people that submit primaries rather than secondaries. I suspect this number is considerably less.

Yea I agree. A few people get screened out either initially or by the AORTA status, and I'm sure a few people do not fill out the secondary. I knew that the MSAR wouldn't show how many get listed EFI, but I'd be interested in knowing that number compared to number interviewed.

Hi guys, what does AORTA stand for here?

Admissions Office Review Team for Applicants

Vandy and zep are making me 😳. Nothing would surprise me in this application process. I'm going into this season with a bit of healthy anxiety about all of the schools I've applied to. Is anxiety ever healthy though? lol

No, but your sense of reality is very admirable. It's easy for someone with your stats to assume they'll get into every school they apply to. We all just need a little patience 😛.

Admissions Office Review Team for Applicants

My girlfriend just asked me what it stood for, and I definitely made it up since I couldn't remember.

"Admissions Office for the Review of Temporary Applications". At least I hit three words...

Hi guys! Thought I'd step in and offer up the advice of someone who got in to UCF last year. The application process as a whole is going to be gruelling. REL and his team do a great job of trying to smooth the road as much as possible. I really came to appreciate this as I interviewed at five schools. Be prepared, and this can be an incredibly rewarding experience!

My quick 2 cents:
Pros- Very integrated curriculum. Patient contact within first module. More support and mentors than you ever thought you'd need. Technologically progressive. Highly innovative and receptive to feedback. Gorgeous environment, which can be important considering you'll spend so much time there. FIRE project (individualized research) let's you explore your passion (see also: cons.)
Cons- MedCity is just getting started, which means you really need to have a car to get to your apartment, preceptorships, shopping, etc... I live close, and it's not too bad. By your clinical years, there's a good chance hospitals in the area will be complete. FIRE project can be terrifying if you've never done research or don't like research. However, you'll have help.

So yes, I'm biased. I chose UCF for a reason! 😍 If you have any questions about the admissions process or very general info, feel free to PM me! I may be slow in responding since we start up modules next week, but I will try to get back to anyone who seeks me out. I'll probably be a better resource later on in the application cycle once I've experienced more of the curriculum. 🙄

Good luck, class of 2016! Can't wait to meet you next year!

Thanks for the info, you two. I'm actually heading up to Orlando tonight, so I'll be thinking of UCF while I'm there.

I actually interviewed with Chastyre and would like to say though I didn't get in I was impressed by UCF a lot when I went there and echo everything she said.

Everything is truly state of the art.

The main con that a lot of people cited about UCF was that since the med city is still being built and its not next to downtown you don't get that sense of In YOUR FACE busy environment you get at a school where the campus is right next to all the major hospitals.

UCF is designed much the way USF is in that it has a children's hospital and VA hospital and some onco centers on campus but the main hospitals are downtown and around town. This is how it is at USF medical school. Like USF most hospitals are also community based rather than tertiary care or quaternary care centers.

Florida as a whole for any out of staters on here is rather spread out. It is not like a condensed city like boston or nyc or chicago. so if that is what you are looking for this isn't the school for you. But overall, despite that, i think Orlando is an awesome place. I have so many memories there with family, with school days pre college, with my best friend being from kissimmee so college days, etc. Consider kissimmee/orlando to be a 2nd home.

Does "AORTA - ELIGIBLE FOR INTERVIEW SELECTION" have any significance? or is that just a generic response for "Oh you're application is complete w/e"?

So the way it works EFI status is like a small pooling that exists at other schools like RFU and MCW.

But it basically means you passed the minimum standards to get an interview. If you don't meet the say 3.0 and 24 requirement you won't get EFI. And believe it or not a lot don't make it to EFI.

Look at last year's thread. REL posted some rough numbers.

However, getting EFI does not mean you will necessary get an interview.

However, you are still in the game and should not be worried if u don't here for a long time because if you get an interview it could be all the way in late winter or spring semester.

I was in EFI for months til end of Nov. when I got an interview invite last year.

Update them periodically if you have anything to update them with.

How did you guys structure your essay? Would it be ok if I broke it up into sections with headings? For instance, a section for family info, a section for significant events, a section for thoughts on medicine..

It would probably be better to not add subheadings and write a formally well written essay. UCF especially will nitpick at your essay like there's no tomorrow. I was not the first person to hear that grammar issues in my essay got me a lot of points taken off despite having an advisor look over it and tell me it was ok.

I heard the same from a U of Arizona med student too when he interviewed at UCF.

So I'd be really careful and nitpicky with this essay if I were you and write it as a proper formal essay not like individual small paragraphs.

Besides the secondary has plenty of other spaces for significant other events etc. This is your chance to write a long proper essay like primary statement but with more detail about you. you can include all those topics in there but write it in proper essay format.

And try not to overlap too much with other sections if I were you. Use the essay space to bring what makes you stand apart out too.

I can swear that I checked my status on Monday and it said, "complete ready for review." Today when I checked again I couldn't see a status anywhere. Has this happened to anyone else? Where exactly is the status - is it on the dashboard where the fee, supp app, etc are listed as completed?

Edit: Nvm, after logging in and out several times, it appeared again. It must have been a technical glitch.

Ya that has happened to me a couple of times, but it always comes back eventually

EFI here....I really hope I get an interview. However, I understand that I probably will not be interviewed until later in the cycle with a 28 MCAT.
