Woke up this morning thinking about UCF. Interview is coming up; hoping for a little out of state luck... but absolutely loved the environment and the school last year. Congratz to everyone who got in so far, good luck to everyone interviewing/waiting for II! Trying to avoid checking emails constantly is definitely easier said than done!

anyone complete ~10/10 or after have an interview invite yet?? just trying to figure out a little bit more with regard to where i stand/where UCF is in the review process.

thanks!

I don't know if anyone else has multiple Florida interviews next week -- but it seems I'll be driving up and down 95 quite a bit. My parents live in the Ft. Pierce / St. Lucie area so I will be driving to FAU Thursday --> home --> UCF Friday --> home --> UMiami Monday --> home --> Orlando Airport Tuesday.

If anyone is along the way, please PM me. I have a car and I'd be happy to carpool during any of these legs to save some gas money.

(Note this is not my account, I dont have one so I use my friends. Thanks!)

EFI today, two weeks after completing my secondary.

eh, so there's nothing on my status page where it usually says AORTA. this happen to anyone else??

I think this happens fairly commonly. Just give it a couple of hours and I think the system should be back to normal.

This is likely to happen every two hours, on the even hours, for up to ten minutes. It has something to do with our supplemental system sync-ing with AMCAS and our other systems as things get updated.

Anyone remember how late into the season interview invites go out?

Faxed in my "please save my seat" form earlier this week but didn't receive an acknowledgment. Did anyone? I'm nervous because my deadline is Sunday and I don't want to miss the deadline- this is THE school for me. (And yes, I emailed Rel).

Not to worry, we're early in the season. Your seat is saved!

I still have to get myself to a fax machine. I will make this happen by Monday! I think it's nice that UCF allows us to fax them the sheet. Snail mail sometimes scares me with stuff like this.

Our last scheduled interview date is in mid-March. We try to invite applicants at least 3 weeks in advance. So the last invites should go out by the third week in February.

Thanks REL!

*checks phone for missed call from UCF at 1:19am*

REL, I have been thinking way too much about admissions--what happens if multiple people have the exact some score on the ranked list?

So, I can't access the page where you give your residency info (part of the acceptance process). It keeps saying, "Oops! Something you're looking for isn't here." ???

We are revising that form. We will send you the form via email when it is ready. Go ahead and send the Combined Response form when you are ready.

Well, tomorrow is the big day for the Halloween interview group! Best of luck to everyone!! 🙂

I know I'll be crossing my fingers for us!

Yeah I don't think my phone will leave my hand's grasp all day, and I'll probably answer before the first ring even finishes.. Good luck everyone!

Congrats Sisterdisco!! 🙂

Is there any reason or rhyme to the order of invites here? I personally know people with identical stats to me that have already been accepted, but I haven't heard a peep.

No love from my top choice school, and in my hometown to boot. 🙁

I am actually wondering how applications are screened as well. If REL could answer our query, that would be great.

I've hatched a plan. Operation "REaL Smooth" will be initiated when I return to Orlando for Thanksgiving break. You are free to join me Shazam.

Step 1a: learn to plan an instrument (if you already know, skip this step)
Step 1b: learn to play "Careless Whisper" by George Michael
Step 2: procure 80's style blazer and haircut
Step 3: play song outside of office of one REL Larkin
Step 4: we both get calls the next day, inviting us to interview. Act nonchalant.

I think I'll fly down to Florida to join you in your endeavors although I will need to learn to sing since there's no way I can play "Careless Whisper" on a drum set. Well maybe I can learn the saxophone for that instead haha.....

Now your are getting my attention......a sax like Abair, Dulfer, or Beasley would certainly have some influence.......

They will be nothing after you experience the auditory massage that is my saxophone playing. I'll begin learning tomorrow.

Really though, is there an answer to Shazam's and my questions?

The only answer that I have is our process. Numbers of 3.0/3.0/24 get a file review by the AORTA (Admissions Office Review Team for Applications). The AORTA is a subset of the admissions committee who independently review all portions of an application, then get together to compare. They then rank applicants for interview selection. The application review is very holistic and not necessarily numbers heavy; note that according to a recent MCAT report 8% of those with 39-45 MCAT scores and 3.80+ GPAs did not get accepted to an MD program. So here, if an application has numbers and strong demonstration of medical motivation, humanism, teamwork, etc they will get the interview opportunity. Others with similar numbers and lesser demonstration of the other things may eventually also be interviewed. We want to be sure of the academic component, but the other things may be what really gets an applicant the interview. For example a higher numbered applicant who has done an average amount of the other things may or may not get the interview while an applicant with solid, dependable numbers and strong other things may get the interview. In short the consistent demonstrated motivations are big in the process for interview selection. That is why we suggest updates to an application when something of significance is available to report.

Hi REL,
I emailed a big update on Tuesday but did not receive an acknowledgement. Should I expect one? Would an immediate interview and/or acceptance be to much to ask? Thanks!

Got "AORTA" in less than two weeks after I submitted my secondary. That's encouraging.

You should expect an acknowledgement. I know that 2/3 of our admissions team was out on Wednesday and we paid for it today. I suspect that you should get a response by COB tomorrow.

Thank you for your response! I was warned that patience is requisite in this process, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I sent an update a while ago and did not receive an acknowledgment. Just call to verify if you still don't get a response within a week or so. That's what I did. :luck:

From what I have seen in a prior post, EFI status has been granted ~2 weeks after secondary is complete. Can anybody confirm or clarify this with respect to the "up to 10-15 days" for EFI determination?

Thanks.

just want people to know here, the interview at ucf seems to count for very little. i had an interviewer tell me that he thought i was a perfect fit for this school and that he was going to try as hard as he could to get me into the school, but then i get my phone call and find out I'm in the bottom third of the wait list even with above average GPA and mcat scores for previous ucf classes and I've already been accepted to other schools. so good luck people with figuring out how this brand new school picks its classes. it is a great school and i was pretty bummed to find this out because i thought it was such a fit for me. but good luck to everyone else, its an awesome school

I would definitely disagree that the interview means little.

From my experience, one of my interviewers' main goals was to see how i react under pressure. He pressed far beyond what I expected in the ethical questions. He even highlighted portions of my application that he didn't like, but I explained why I included things, and stood by my decisions. He seemed to respect that.

My second interviewer was completely the opposite from the first one, and couldn't say enough good and encouraging things.

I believe UCF has a very specific type of student in mind when they go through the admissions process. I'm sure that you will end up at the right place for you, and perhaps there was something in your application that told the UCF AdCom that you would thrive elsewhere.

i didnt really say that it counts for nothing...it just kind of seems misleading so i was venting some and just looking for some explanations and you both gave me that. thanks and thanks for the empathy too. youll be a good doctor haha

This is perhaps a silly question, but for the UCF interview, are we expected to provide our own transportation to the Celebration Hospital, or will we be taken there?

II today for December 9th, totally excited! I had almost given up all hope!

Congrats! I was hoping for a December 2nd II but I guess its not in the cards. I'm surprising the family with a Mickey's Christmas Party that night so it would have made for the perfect day.
