Are you both from the Dec 2nd group?

No, I interviewed the end of November. Looks like I'm sitting in the upper third of the "wait-list". I know I should be happy but I was really hoping for an acceptance... Siiiiighhhh.

Good question... also, does anyone know how many interview dates are included for each time the ADCOMs get together?

While the ADCOM normally meets weekly, they only accept every-other week. There is a target number of ~10 each time they select for admissions, but this ~10 may come from the entire "not-yet-admitted" list, not solely from those interviewed over the two-week period.

Upper one third is awesome! But I know what you mean... An acceptance would've been nice. Happy holidays and hopefully you will get an acceptance soon (you and I).

Sigh I am so upset. Waitlisted at the lower third middle of the wait list. Pretty much a death sentence to me. I don't see anyway I would get out of that position.

This was a total shocker... My interviewers told me I would be a good fit, and I felt like I owned those interviews. I was definitely tired that day and zoned out for the rest of the day after my interviews. I am not sure if that contributes... but I feel like there is some sort of red flag in my application now.

I am sincerely sorry. I am a reapplicant and was in a similar position to yours last year. I definitely second taking to REL-- he is extremely straightforward and I am sure he will tell you how to improve your application and its current weak spots. Keep your chin up and don't be afraid to ask for help if you end up reapplying. Trust me, I would know

How can I contact REL?
Should I email admissions? Send him a PM through sdn? Or call him through the number he called me at?

Thank you guys for all the advice. This is my third time reapplying and I have had way too many rejections at this point..

I would send him an email through the mdadmissions email. I forget what that email is off the top of my head. That is how I contacted him. Alternatively if you really wanna talk one on one you can call and ask to speak to him.

That being said, I prefer email communication with people cuz its convenient and less nerve wracking. So that's why I always chose email for communication.

You can PM him but I think you will get a quicker response by sending him an email or calling him directly.

PS I was a reapplicant when I got into med school. so keep your head up. People told me I'd not make it and I did. so I mean if you really want it you will make it if you are persistent. Good things happen to those who wait.

Gut feel-- this seems like pretty cogent advice above. There are any number of posts all over SDN fora where medical students speak of persistence paying off, and various among the medical school application sites note this as well...they clearly want matriculants to have a REAL desire to be a doctor. Your numbers are not a reach...some schools end up taking up to 50 from their WL. Keep firing shots on goal! GOOD LUCK!:xf:😳

Hello.

For those who interviewed. If the interview ends @4:00pm. am I cutting too close if my flight is at 5:55pm?

Also any advice for an interview would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

15 minutes to the airport? You could make it. Depending on your travel plans, to save time you could take just a carry-on and use on-line check-in. But then you need to find a printer for your ticket in Orlando somewhere.

Most of my hotels had business centers with a computer and printer.

On our interview day they asked who needed rides to ariport and coordinated them right after day concluded. Inform them of your departure time and they will likely be mindful of it and get you there on time. I flew out of orlando and it was convenient and timely. your plane boards 30 minutes before. You will make it.

An M2 brought me back to the airport almost immediately after the day ended. I got there really early, had only carry-on items, and had my boarding pass already printed No problems whatsoever, except for all the waiting (haha...) and, my flight was delayed a half hour, for who knows what. So if all goes well you can make it.

Honestly, it does not take very long to get from back check to terminal at OIA. I usually get there an hour before my flight. If you can get there around 4:30 I'd say you'll have plenty of time.

Anyone else pulling their hair out waiting for the 11th?

Received an interview invite today! Sent out an update letter late last night which may or may not have anything to do with it. Good luck to everyone waiting for II's!

When does the December 9th crew find out their decisions? The question is obviously not for me, but I'd like to plan some festivities for a friend should it work out for him/her.

December 9th crew finds out Jan 11, two days from now

Does anybody know if the new Nemours and VA hospitals and the Scripps institute will be academically and clinically accessible to the class of 2016? I have been accepted at FSU as well so I am trying to weigh the costs and benefits of leaving my home town (Tallahassee). Any news about these new facilities?

Thank you!

I asked one of the students and they told me that it would not be available to the students for their rotations or any part of the curriculum since they would be brand new and just starting out and would not be a good "teaching" area. Hope that kind of answers your question.

P.S. I'm not a pharmacy student; this is my girlfriend's account

That stinks. Still, they seem like great places to shadow, etc. in the first couple years. Scripps will open in 2012 as well? How about MD Anderson?

does anyone know if people post any interview feedback about their interview day at ucf?

my interview is coming up very soon and i'm just curious to see what people have thought of the interview days and specifically the questions that were brought up during the one-on-ones. thank you in advance for any help!

The Nemours and VA will open at the end of 2012 andd will definitely be viable clinical training facilities by the time the class of 2016 is ready. I am not aware of a Scripps at the Lake Nona Medical Campus.

Huh? I dont understand this post.

On the day indicated for an interviewee to receive the call about their status, does anyone know the approximate time of the call? Thanks.

REL, since I see you're checking this thread out now, do you know if there are new residency programs opening in Orlando, or if there are ones that are new that aren't showing up yet? Because on FREIDA, there are a lot of specialties that don't have residency positions in Orlando, and I was just wondering if UCF if going to be getting those installed (or already has) in the next few years.

II 1/10/12 😀. I was complete in mid-August and sent an update in mid-November.

I am extremely excited about this one! :soexcited:

:luck: to all those waiting. There is definitely hope out there!

Congrats! So maybe there is hope if I don't have to learn how to play the saxophone (which I now have no time for)!

Ha REL, I'm curious: how many of us are you able to match up from this thread with our applications?

Congrats to those recently accepted and good luck to those waiting to hear/interviewing!

I got waitlisted yesterday =(. But at least I got the upper 1/3 which I am thankful for. REL said typically they move through the upper 1/3 of the waitlist by the end of the application cycle. Hoping for an invitation as soon as possible so I can sit back and relax for a little while!

I'm fairly certain I've given away enough information for him to easily find me .

Hey Vandy, thanks for the support. I am rooting for you too! :xf:

Thank you, and congrats!! Make sure to bring jorts to UCF. The warm weather in Orlando is conducive to short shorts, which, of course, are conducive to bada** maneuvers such as this:

Im going to second look if I can afford it lol. Flying for interviews has been pricey haha.

As far as I know, they will be available in a limited capacity to students. But ORMC and Florida hospital are established teaching hospitals. ORMC is one of only 3 or 4 level 1 trauma centers in florida, which means they are required to have every specialty on hand.

As a medical student, i would rather work at ORMC and FH (mostly ORMC which is the current setup) purely based on that. ORMC is an inner city hospital, has a womens hospital, childrens hopsital (winnie palmer), and well known cancer center (MD Anderson).

Nemours is a very specific hospital, and while you can see many interesting rare things in children there, it doesnt offer much to a 3rd or 4th year med student trying to learn the basics of being a doctor.

The VA may offer alot more, but wont have an established teaching program when it first opens.

So to answer your question. The majority of the rotations for third and fourth years will likely remain at ORMC for the next few years, BUT and thats a big BUT, you will still be able to do some at these hospitals as electives, and some rotations may be offered there.

hope that helped.

Ok. so UCF does not have anything to do with residencies. Residencies are completely within the bounds of the hospitals that offer them. I know this is weird, but when you come to applying to residencies, you are no longer applying to a University, you are applying to the hospital.

Some hospitals are owned and run through a university, so in that case the university could apply for new residency programs. in UCF's case, however, ORMC and FH system are merely affiliated with UCF.

FH is working on some more residencies, and just opened a few in the past year (i think neuro, and maybe one other)

and ORMC has added a couple i cant remember off the top of my head.

the association with the med school has helped these hospitals to work on applying for new training programs.

ORMC and FH do have quite a few residencies, but they are mainly Primary care (FM, IM, Peds, Neuro, EM) and there is orthopaedics and surgerical specialties.

but residency is a big fat world that you should not be worrying about in terms of whats offered where your med school is, as long as they have the main specialties you need for 3rd and 4th year.

this.

So I did some research about residencies, and hospitals.

The VA is gonna be huge for an increase in residency programs in the area.
Nemours, since it is a very specific childrens hospital, will have Residencies, but will likely be rich in Fellowship programs (subspecialization).

Exciting Stuff.

if you ever want to go to a class, or get a different look at orlando, let me know.
