I got the email at 4:30 A.M. Strange.

I was going to submit mine first thing this morning, but I am tweaking it. Hoping to submit in the next couple hours!

Got the secondary today too! Yay! 😀

Anyone else requesting a fee waiver? I have FAP and they say to email the "fee waiver" to them, but I didn't get anything like that from FAP so I'm not sure what to send them...I guess I'll just email and ask.

I'm not really sure about the fee waiver... Sorry 😳. I bet emailing them will solve it!

Received today and submitted! I feel overly neurotic for how fast that turn around was.

It's not neurotic, it's just efficient!! 🙂

Well, I got the secondary. Now I just need to motivate myself to write this essay.

The $100 seems a little steep too, but I think I had better widen my net as much as possible. It seems risky to have apps out at only 6 schools 😳

Got the secondary too, OOS. Any idea if Colorado screens for secondary?

They do not screen. You could have a 2.0 and a 22 and get one...

Hey guys,

After you submit and pay, do you guys still see an non-updated status (says something along the lines of: "we have received you AMCAS application and are waiting on your supplemental and fee payment") and a blank secondary form when you select "supplemental" on the application page?

Just curious, thanks!

Yah I see a blank page too. I don't think the "check the status" link will reflect the latest info until Sept 1st according to the email by Dr. Winn.

That's what I figured too, just wanted to double check, you know how it is 🙂

Did anyone see an application/option to declare colorado residency?

And does yalls application page give deadlines for the 2011 cycle instead of 2012?

Did anyone see an application/option to declare colorado residency?

I didn't see any option like that. At the info session they said that the school conducts a residency investigation looking back one year from the "date of admission" (or whatever they called it, it was a date in July) to confirm your instate status. Otherwise, the only way I know to declare residency is on your AMCAS app.

I'm still sitting on this year's wait list, and ready to submit for round 2. Hope it goes better this time around!

Just submitted the secondary after having some issues with the payment page.

I am currently out the country and the application would not let me pay the $100 fee. So I called home and had somebody try paying it from the United States and it finally worked. So for what it is worth, if your out of the country try and convince somebody back in the states to help you out. 🙂

cheers.

You declare your state of residency when you fill out your AMCAS app. If youd didn't specify Colorado there, I'm pretty sure you'll be considered out of state by the school.

Perfect, thats what I thought. My permanent and legal residencies are in CO but my mailing address is at school.

Everytime I go to submit my app the payment page does not work, and I have to redo the app. Is anyone else having this problem? (I am in the US!)

Disregard.

Yes, I had that problem as well. Thank God I typed my essay in Word beforehand. The issue seemed to resolve itself when I switched computers...still not sure what the problem was but I got an error message.

Submitted. And the date from which UC looks is July 7th. Basically, you have to have your residency stuff in line before that date of 2011 to be considered instate for 2012.

Submitted, my last secondary. But my first choice. I'd do anything Colorado!
:luck: guys!

So I finished my secondary on the 3rd and got the email notification of payment, but my status page still says that it will start reviewing my app as soon as they receive payment...thoughts?

I'm pretty sure that's what it says for everyone.

They said you could start checking the status page after September 1st, so I wouldn't put any stock in what it says now.

that's right. I called the admissions office to verify what the mail said and they confirmed that they will start entering payments into their system after 09/01. So you can ignore what your status says right now.

Is the secondary essay's 2500 character limitation including spaces?

Very interesting prompt - anyone want to share what they wrote about?

I'm a nontrad, and wrote about working with students from underserved communities (my job before deciding to go into medicine) and how it has influenced me to improve health care systems to better serve vulnerable populations. :xf:

Just got a confirmation email:

"Thank you for your Secondary Application to the University of Colorado School of Medicine. We are delighted by your interest and look forward to getting to know you better during the application season. In an effort to increase our communication with our applicants we are writing today to tell you more about the application review process and admissions season..."

I think I was very early in submitting my secondary though... best of luck everyone :xf:

Got the same email! It's exciting that they're starting to review apps. I think I submitted my secondary the first day it was available. Can't wait to hear something from CU!

+1

Anyone going to CU pre-med day on September 10th? I went last year and found it super helpful. Plus you get free lunch. 😀

Can someone post the essay prompts for this secondary? Thanks!

Should I expect the OOS stats to be higher than in-state for acceptances? I'm OOS and thinking about applying.

Yes, somewhat higher, though if I remember correctly they were not astronomical last year. OOS have a much better chance at CU now than just a few years ago. I believe they've increased their OOS portion to 30-35% of the entering class.

I got an interview last year with a 33Q/3.75...according to the website, 3 times the number of OOS students apply than IS, but 75% of the incoming class is IS, so the competition for the 25% of spots is pretty fierce. Here are the stats they gave us at the "so sorry you didn't get in" wrap-up interview.

4550 apps, 3390 secondaries released, 612 (18%) interviewed, 217 (35% of interviewed) accepted. 160 in the matriculating class--so 40 OOSers.

They're seeing a rise in the number of OOS applying--only 12% of the OOS who applied got an interview last year (compared to 50% IS).

Hope this helps (or at least doesn't send you into apoplectic shock lol)

There are way more IS acceptances proportionally than OOS, but OOS is getting some love with acceptances. The class composition is higher for IS solely because OOS'ers are less likely to go to CU with the astronomical tuition cost. At the first info session this year (right after they decided the status of all applicants), here were the stats:

217 acceptances out so far, with 160 still holding CU acceptance offers
91 IS, 126 OOS

33% increase in submitted secondaries in 2010-2011 versus the previous cycle

75th% interviewed/accepted had 3.92 GPA, 36 MCAT
Median had 3.81, 34 (33 for accepted)
25th% had 3.64, 31

65% of the current CU accepted pool is holding multiple acceptance offers

170-180 are currently on the waitlist

Wait...Broo Broo...does this mean they already filled their class for 2012?!

Thanks for the reassurance guys! Its been a crazy week so I was freaking out.

FWIW, here's the final data from last year's cycle (as of July):

~3,400 secondaries completed
612 interviewed (IS applicants had a 1 in 2 chance of interview)
294 accepted
160 matriculated

IS:OOS ratio of accepted interviewees was 70:30. Reportedly, CU aims for 75:25 IS:OOS, but this year's ratio is just how things panned out.

Interviewed Applicant Stats: median MCAT of 34, median GPA of 3.81.
Accepted Applicant Stats: median MCAT of 32, median GPA of 3.75.

I'm hoping we start hearing some news come September 1!
