Just got a phone call:

"Is this slcall? Congratulations! We are happy to tell you that we would like to offer you..."

I was so excited! Until I realized that they wanted to offer me discounted car insurance, not a place at CU lol.
This waiting is making me paranoid 🙁

GAH! This totally fooled me! I even got out my phone to make sure it was on ring. The difference between "a" and "the" phone call is very important lol. Paranoia to the max.

Well played.

Any unknown number that calls me makes my heart skip a beat. It's usually about my discover card though.

Anybody know when decisions are likely coming out and do they come via email? 😕

Well, if CU is honest about everyone hearing by March 31st then decisions should come out in the next two weeks.

Decisions will be sent by e-mail, maybe a few people will get phone calls for acceptances if they give any more out.

I don't think it's worthwhile to make guesses. The person who told me it would be last Thursday not more than 3 weeks ago is a fairly senior member of their adcom and s/he appears to have been mistaken (which I would guess means they are behind schedule and this person did not realize it).

1 day down, possible days left to sit checking email until the 31st..9. 😛

Dear C.U.,

My high school English teacher returned papers quicker than this.

Something to think about....

I guess I appreciate an admissions committee taking their time on my application than to make a rushed decision.

At one school I applied to, I was rejected pre-interview within days after I submitted my secondary. Though I can’t say for sure, it begs the question whether my application was reviewed in its entirety—whether I was put into some pre-interview algorithm.

That said, I think everyone appreciates to hear sooner rather than later. Let’s just have hope! Sometimes no news is good news. :luck:🙂

Job announcement:
Anxiety therapist needed in Colorado Application thread to calm nerves, increase positive thinking and dispel negativity. Special consideration given to those who can show us the silver lining, build relaxation exercises and remind us of our humanity. Will consider singing Kumbaya by fire and other alternative therapies.
Looking forward to meeting you.

let me top that, my dream school, uc davis, rejected me preinterview within 3-4 hours after receiving my application, they never contacted me to let me know that i was rejected, after many phone calls asking about my status & emailing, i was informed of this application portal that i never heard about, where i found that i was auto rejected!!!😡

Not to be a downer or anything, but I totally wouldn't apply for this. Most likely, while singing kumbaya way off key, a bear would mistake you for a dying moose and charge at you. In the commotion, you would fall into the campfire you were singing around. The highly flammable silver lining would burst into flames. On fire, you try and run to the lake, but trip over people doing yoga. Everyone is so positive that they think you will be alright, and they are cheering you on with positivity energy, all hippie granola like. You never make it to the water.

Hahaha, my first thought was "And then what will we do?"

I'm just telling myself that we won't hear jack squat until next Friday so that I stop getting my hopes up. It's actually been working pretty well. 😎

Next step for me..to stop checking SDN (deap breath) "I can do this...I can do this...":scared:

When I talked with a pre-health adviser last week, he said he thought almost all of the outright rejections had been sent out. So, most of us that haven't heard yet will be wait-listed, and some will get accepted yet.

Really? I haven't seen any post-interview rejections on this thread yet.

Neither have I. At this point, it's all a bunch of hearsay. We're gonna hear when they are ready to release some information and until then, I don't believe much of anything that has been said. None of it has really proven to be true thus far.

Agreed--while that news would put me a bit more at ease, it just doesn't ring true with what I remember hearing from my interview day.

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us, regardless!

You guys are wise. At this point, I find myself seeking encouragement ahead of truth or sanity. I'm trying to postpone substance abuse.

I found solace and comfort in the teachings of the Mile High Messiah... Teachings like: there is always hope for last quarter heroics, and you can't count out the long shot.... but now that he has been traded to the Jets, I have lost everything.... Elway the NFL Judas?!

Wow, didn't know Tebow got traded already. Anyhow, Elway is more like the NFL King David than he is like Judas. As for Tebow, I think we still have yet to see what his role is after this crazy past season. I don't think he's a messiah, but he might have a solid career in front of him.
During this whole application process I've realized that my past doesn't tell my whole story. What I've done does not paint a complete picture of what I'm ready and able to do. Well said about the fourth quarter.

This is true for people who didn't interview. Not all POST-interview decisions have been made with the glaring exception of so many acceptances a couple weeks ago.

Is the class mostly chosen/accounted for then at this point. In other words, what do we suppose the percentage of the class is remaining to be accepted at this point? Are they just sorting out wait-list now?

I'm not sure any of us know. I would venture a guess that they have accepted a full class already and most of us will be rejected and wait listed when they decide to let us know.

Good point. Being as those 6 supposedly represent ≤15% of the total offers (i.e., 6 of 45 or 13.3% of the offers from CU at any given point) and the March release date has to fill the rest of the class (i.e., they need to make 115 more offers or another 38% of their offers), we would expect about 15 offers on the "big day" to be posted on SDN. The evidence seems to point to that being, perhaps, the first of, perhaps, 2 or 3 mass acceptance days in March (especially considering the lack of a "mass rejection/waitlist" day immediately following... Of course, that could also just be today (Friday) to prevent those rejected/waitlisted from all flooding the office with angry/disappointed/confused phone calls.... Keep in mind that they keep changing this process, so what they did last year is not necessarily what this year will look like. Ms. Patel and Dr. Winn have definitely been tweaking the process this year (as they did last year).

Just bringing this good statistical conjecture by music2doc back.

Hey All! New to the forum, but have read through quite a few of the pages. I am IS and interviewed on Dec 19th. I think that music2docs analysis was pretty right on, and I would bet that the admissions committee is doing the process different than last year. Another piece that we can add to this puzzle is the number of students in the Facebook group for the SOM class of 2016. Within the group there are only 87 members, 6 of whom are admin. We can probably add a few who just aren't on Facebook, but that still only fills about half the class. Before the "bigger" release day on Feb 29th, there were only about 30 students (not counting admin) in the group. This could mean a couple of things about that Feb 29th day. One possibility is that the admissions committee sent out what they considered to be the majority of the acceptances and just got fewer people to commit to CU. More likely, however, is that they are doing a more "wave-style" admissions. If I were on the adcom, I would take advantage of the fact that accepted student must reply within 2 weeks of hearing, and stage different acceptance days for the following weeks. That way, the adcom can better gauge the numbers and not risk a statistical failure which could accidentally over-fill the class.

That said, yes it's an agonizing wait. But it's all part of the game. My advice: eat your vegetables and get daily exercise in the beautiful spring weather. Both will make you happy and healthy!

Well said natureisneat! If you get in and I get in, I think we could be great friends.

7 days left. And I'm inclined to believe that we left waiting I hear are in the group that would normally be waitlisted so they sent out x number of acceptances and are waiting for those people to say yae or ney and thus they can accept more off the bat rather than waitlist us all.

Well it was a tight race in between Colorado and Hawaii, but despite Hawaii being several timezones behind and operating on 'island time' they did manage to send out their decisions today. The Hawaii thread is going nuts.

Meanwhile the Colorado thread drraaaggggsssss oooooonnnnnnn.......

It's very possible that I'm being arrogant/overconfident but I sincerely believe that Colorado has more acceptances to send out.

I just have to keep telling myself that. I'm on too many waitlists. I really just wanna have an acceptance without having to wait til after May 15th.

I was told that as of March 15th, they had filled approximately half of their class.

that's it? according to AAMC recommended guidelines, all schools are supposed to issue enough acceptances to at least fill their class. Guess they're not going by those guidelines this year then....

March 15 is the deadline for MD/PhD programs. MD programs are supposed to issue enough acceptances to fill their class by March 30. So they can't make us wait that much longer... in theory.

ahhh, march 30th...i see now. aughhh, gdi, i know it's only 9 days away, but this seems strangely appropriate right about now....

for those who can't watch, here are the lyrics:

"Set me free, why dont cha babe
Get out my life, why dont cha babe
cause you dont really love me
You just keep me hangin on
You dont really need me
But you keep me hangin on

Why do you keep a coming around
Playing with my heart?
Why dont you get out of my life
And let me make a new start?
Let me get over you
The way youve gotten over me

Set me free, why dont cha babe
Let me be, why dont cha babe
cause you dont really love me
You just keep me hangin on
Now you dont really want me
You just keep me hangin on

You say although we broke up
You still wanna be just friends
But how can we still be friends
When seeing you only breaks my heart again
And there aint nothing I can do about it

Woo, set me free, why dont cha babe
Woo, get out my life, why dont cha babe
Set me free, why dont cha babe
Get out my life, why dont cha babe

You claim you still care for me
But your heart and soul needs to be free
Now that youve got your freedom
You wanna still hold on to me
You dont want me for yourself
So let me find somebody else hey!

Why dont you be a man about it
And set me free
Now you dont care a thing about me
Youre just using me
Go on, get out, get out of my life
And let me sleep at night
cause you dont really love me
You just keep me hangin on..."

Breath a little, woosaw, woosaw. Two points to focus on that make things seem less scary, I think: 🙂

1. "filled half the spots" could mean that they have made that many offers, it doesn't mean that they were committed to. Many applicants will be waiting for offers from other schools they may have ranked higher than colorado. One MS1 told my interview group that she had already moved to Georgetown when she was called from the waitlist in June and took the offer. Therefore, it is feasible that many of those spots will open up and increase available spots for SDNers. . . . Considering that Colorado makes ~300 offers eventually for the 160+ spots I'd assume that there could be another 150 more offers. I will repeat, 150. Or, "One-hundred and fifty" in check book form. Or, with quantitative illustration, that looks like this in the form of the letter C: ccccccccccCCCCCCCCCCccccccccccCCCCCCCCCCcccccccccc
CCCCCCCCCCccccccccccCCCCCCCCCCccccccccccCCCCCCCCCC
ccccccccccCCCCCCCCCCccccccccccCCCCCCCCCCcccccccccc
That is a lot of letter c's. There will be one for everyone here!

2. If I am not mistaken, it is by March 30 that schools are recommended to have "offered" the expected number of spots in MD programs (while it is March 15 to have done the same with MD PhD). . . That means 80 offers for sure in the next 10 days!!!
Below is the copy and paste from AAMC for this reference:
4. By March 30 of the matriculation year, March 15 for M.D.-Ph.D. programs, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services. https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/recommendations/62826/policies_admissionofficers.html
(ADDED: kexy beat me to that point! Man, this forum is HOT. While I was cutting and pasting the letter c there have been like five more posts!!)

Best of luck to everyone!!!!

Accepted

...the fact that I'm probably just waiting until March 30th to be handed a waitlist spot so I can continue waiting well into May and possibly June.

Do you hold acceptances at any other schools? If so, will you wait around on the wait list for months or just withdraw? Just curious about how others feel about this....

Nope, no acceptances. Just on a bunch of waitlists. Guess that means I'm a very mediocre applicant. But yeah, I'd hold on to that one as the only school I'd go to over Colorado [that I interviewed at] is my in-state alma mater, UF, and I'm on the waitlist there.
