waitlist pergatory for me as well.
This must be a large waitlist. . . would love to know how many acceptances have gone out.

Apparently none today...which I assume means the class is full. So I guess 160 have been made.
 
Wait listed as well....

At the end of the day, someone should go through and count all the acceptances before 3/2, all on/after(?) 3/2, all the waitlist/alternates, and all the rejections. Using that information, we should be able to approximate our chances at getting OFF the wait list, since they won't give us exact numbers.

Here's what we do know, however:

15% of acceptances were before March 2 (this equates to 45 offers)
~250-300 offers are made each year and ~50 of those are from the wait list. Most likely, they are using the 250 as the expected to stay conservative, so probably 190 offers have been made (with 30 people turning down the initial offer). This would place them at the expected 160 as of now.
Based on my previous post, we appear to have ~13% representation of the CU post-interview pool in this thread.

Based on this, we can anticipate that the wait list size is ~7.5 people per "Wait list" statement here. If we take 50 and divide that into the total, we will have an approximate percent chance of acceptance from the alternate list.
 
MT / Stax ... you guys holding Tulane acceptances too? I've got that and a bunch of waitlists.
 
I wonder if they did just barely fill their class and waitlisted everyone else. I doubt they can have made 250 offers at this point. Hopefully there will be more waitlist movement this year.

I would expect there probably will be since this year they're challenging OHSU for the "Most Deliberative Admissions Committee 2012" award. 😉 j/k, although I sorta hope this is true. Someone should call and ask if they over-accepted or not. The email implies for the most part that they don't; however, the fact that they supposedly only make 50-60 offers from the alternate list to come to their 250-300 offers total makes me wonder.

Oh well, gonna enjoy my last few months here in Colorado anyway
 
I walked over and talked to admissions. The lady said that they have not only filled the class, but have overfilled it at this point. Her explanation is that in the past they ranked the waitlist 1 2 3. Everyone on 1 got in, some on 2 got in, and none from 3. So this year, they have already accepted a full class, plus accepted the people that would have been in waitlist 1 in the past because they get in anyways. So now everyone on the current waitlist would have been put in 2 in the past, and 3 is cut.

So now everyone on the waitlist will need to wait for a bunch of accepted people to withdraw until there is an open slot in the class. This means that around 50-60 people will need to withdraw even before they begin to consider the waitlist.

That being said, it looks like they put a lot of people on the waitlist (more than were rejected based on SDN results) and she was less than encouraging about the statistics of getting in at this point. She also wouldn't say how many people are on the waitlist. Bummer.

EDIT: This also means that waitlisted people will have to wait a while until we hear anything (ie after may 15 when people can only hold one spot in the class). So we can all start to get angsty again around that time.

It's all good. Probably Willa. She's the somewhat older lady who does a lot of the business/admin side of things from what I understand. She's been there forever (as in way longer than Ms. Patel or Dr. Winn). Unfortunately in this case, she knows what she's talking about. Probably not the best of news. I hope you all get accepted elsewhere, so this won't even have to be an issue. Good luck either way!

Sounds like it. I'll have to ask my adcom contact, although that could be a slightly awkward conversation at this point.... :laugh:
 
OK, so assuming that everyone here who was waitlisted/rejected has reported one or the other, a rough count is the following:

12 Rejections * 7.5 = 90
24 Waitlists * 7.5 = 180

This would represent a total of 270. About 700 people were interviewed, IIRC, and Willa(?) stated some 210 offers had been made, so we are missing 220 people still.... That means we probably still have a few more to be accounted for, but it sounds like of the remaining interviewees, 1/3 were rejected, 2/3 wait listed. That would put our wait list at around 327 people or enough to fill the class twice if all the current acceptances were turned down.... 😱

Est. Chance at Acceptance: 15-18%

So what I am saying is... There's still a chance! :luck:

I think people who were waitlisted are more likely to share their status than those who were rejected...I don't know how much that factors in, but I would guess it does to some extent.

On the 2010-2011 thread, someone posted on 4/15/2011 that they had attended an information session and 217 acceptances had been extended and 170-180 were on the waitlist. I'm assuming that wouldn't have changed very much so 327 may be a bit excessive, which is good for us! And if the lower 1/3 of the waitlist was completely discontinued, maybe there are even less?

Sorry to burst bubbles but the lower 1/3 was eliminated last year, so we should have the same setup for our wait list. 180 was the number I got prior to adding in those who hadn't spoken up, so that may be closer to the truth. I extrapolated the 2:1 WL:Reject ratio to those 220 people (which would likely be the worst-case scenario). Best-case is that those 220 are basically were all rejected and therefore didn't bother to post. In that case 180 would be the best estimate.
 
I just wish they weren't so secretive about everything. The admissions lady wouldn't even tell me how many people were on the waitlist. Her words: "I could tell you, but I'm not going to." Just totally disrespectful in my eyes.

I was really excited about CU for the past five years, but based on this admissions committees general lack of respect for most of the applicant pool (a month to decide just on the waitlist?!), and some of the complaints I've heard from graduating med students about the CU leadership (ie lack of leadership and commitment to the global health track, Krugman not showing up to the MSA presentations, the list goes on...), I've really had enough of CU at this point. But as fate would have it, they're my only shot and I have to wait this out.

Same here. Can't even tell if I feel relieved from finally knowing what's up or bummed out to know that for my only chance I've been placed on an unhopeful waitlist.

Yep! I was likely going there whatever the result from Colorado ended up being.
 
I got an email yesterday saying my tentative fin aid packet was ready to view but was unable to claim my ucdenver account and therefore log in. I talked to dimple about it yesterday and she said its being sorted out but I was just curios if anyone has successfully logged in and if so, how did you get your username and password?

same here, i called like three different offices to find that they don't have everything set up, she said hopefully they have it ready by monday, idk, i think they are very behind.
i've been following this post for a long time, i really wish you all good luck, and feel really disappointed that this long wait didn't come back with good news.🙁
 
Anyone know if they accept update letters? From the alternate list email it seemed like they are not receptive.
 
Was in Fruita for a mountain bike trip this weekend. I had a cell phone with service, but no Internet access; so, when I didn't get a phone call Friday I figured it was a rejection or more waiting. I didn't really want to ruin the fun weekend, but now I know:

Waitlisted.

I'm with the general consensus going on around here: glad it's not a rejection, bummed I sat on the edge of my seat all March thinking they were giving out more acceptances, and frustrated that we still have no answers. (Meaning, the answers are out there, we are just not allowed to have them....)

Looks like we get to continue to commiserate for a while still!
 
One thing I noticed from last year is that CU tends to overaccept OOS students, figuring most of them have other offers based on the competitiveness of the OOS pool (the initial accepted class last year was about 60%OOS and the matriculating class was 30%OOS). This means that to get to the "desired" 35%OOS 65%IS class, they will accept several IS students off of the waitlist. I could be completely over-optimistic and wrong, being an IS applicant, but this is the sense I got from last year's application cycle.

You won't necessarily get a phone call the instant you're accepted. I got my phone call exactly a month after my acceptance email.

Just wondering people's thoughts/opinions. I know it's wildly variable person to person, but do you think a lot of waitlisted people will now withdraw from CU if they have other acceptances. Just trying to think of why the waitlist seems to be so big.

because I'm not withdrawing until 2 weeks after acceptance. which i don't have yet.

DUUUUDE...don't say such things aloud -- now they're going to auto-reject all applicants with 42 MCATs and 3.7/3.8 GPAs and ridiculous ECs just to avoid getting turned down by you!

BTW, as a side note, apparently CU is screwing with high stats people. According to a report from AMCAS, of the 4 students this year who applied from our university with 41+ MCAT scores, CU rejected 3 of them! WTH...

I would imagine that those students may have an uphill battle at CU when there is a decent likelihood that they have a couple of 'Top 10' acceptances waiting for them. I think it would be really hard to show genuine interest in the school unless you were sincere about it.
 
Wait-listed last Friday, second year in a row 34M, 3.7 GPA (engineering)

The post that lalaaala made sounded like they made some sweeping changes to the initial acceptances, but I don't think it's any different than last year. The wait-list email this year was verbatim the same from last year. This was taken off the thread from last year posted 4/15/2011:

Current Stats
217 acceptances out so far
91 IS, 126 OOS
33% increase in submitted secondaries in 2010-2011 versus the previous cycle
75th% interviewed/accepted had 3.92 GPA, 36 MCAT
Median had 3.81, 34 (33 for accepted)
25th% had 3.64, 31
65% of the current CU accepted pool is holding multiple acceptance offers
170-180 are currently on the waitlist

I think that each group accepted, waitlist, and rejected are in the neighborhood of 200 people. Last year the wait-list acceptance day was Tues 5/24/2011, and some trickled in after that. By 6/20/2011 they had offered 294 acceptances, 77 people off the wait-list. So there is some hope for everyone waiting. That being said, if you don't have any acceptances, now is the time to plan for next year. If you have to apply again, like I did, they want to see that you did more than just mark time at your current activities. The committee wants to see that your application improved and you grew as an applicant. Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

The above post is promising and I agree with you. They wouldn't lie to us and say they usually accept 50-60ppl off the waitlist in the email.

I'm guessing the above numbers are probably pretty accurate compared to the stats this year. Sorry if I was overly cynical in my interpretation of the information I received, but it seemed to me like there are a lot of waitlisted people (maybe more than last year?). The lady did make make it seem like a long shot when I talked to her though.

Well, maybe she just didn't want to get your hopes up? I feel like the CU admissions office all along have been reiterating how difficult it is to get an acceptance. I don't think things would be much different than last year considering they interviewed a similar number of people.

If this was Willa, I suspect she gets frustrated having to answer these questions over and over again. She also may feel like she can't give you a "real" answer do to policy. That may result in her giving fairly negative/pessimistic-sounding responses. I realized as I considered it that she may feel kind of like the Triage Tech in the ER feels when patients ask questions like, "How much longer is it going to be?!" In reality, in Triage, we really don't know (because it all depends upon the ambulances coming in as well as what else comes into Triage and the speed of the clinical staff and physicians in the back), so while we could give a reasonable guess, doing so might get us in A LOT more trouble.

I think there's a lot of truth to this. They definitely don't seem to want to get anyone's hope up and seem to be cautious about saying too much. They have also stated that as the only med school within a 500 mile radius, they feel a responsibility to ensure students don't rely upon them for an acceptance because if everyone did that, we would never even come close to solving the physician shortage here. As a result, they are fairly strong on the general theme "apply broadly and have a Plan B."

For those who have been accepted, have u received your estimated fin aid yet? Also, will the scholarship (if you are awarded one)? I guess imy question is, how do u find out abt the final decisions for scholarships?

Based on my FAFSA alone (they also make you fill out the NeedAccess form if you haven't), they have given an estimated financial aid package in its most basic form (Unsubsidized Stafford and GradPLUS loans only) on:
www.ucdenver.edu/UCDAccess under Student Center. They emailed me about this as well.

I assume that if a scholarship is granted it will show up on the UCDAccess site and an email sent.
