Are you serious? Crazy-tease. Well, HatWobble and I are definitely tempting fate with these mean posts.

Update: I didn't see the lightbulb when I put that emoticon GIF in there, so I thought it was just a scared dude looking around. It doesn't really make sense with the lightbulb. Sorry, again.

Second Update: Haha, I just got that interview feedback email, too. Insanely cruel and unusual. But also funny.

This is beyond frustrating. I just called the admissions office to check why my status hadn't changed since I was complete in July, and all they told me was that my app was complete, and to be patient and to keep checking my status because it was taking them longer to review applications this year because they've received more than normal.

I don't know what else to do at this point. I was expecting better from my state school.

I feel you. Of the in-state schools I applied to here in Cali, I was pre-secondary rejected by one, and I'm still getting the silent treatment from the rest.

OMG, your misuse of smileys just pushed me off the edge into a complete emotional breakdown. Why are you doing this!?!

Just kidding, I didn't notice the lightbulb before going to the next page anyway. 🙂

Ok now I'm overthinking it probably, but in all seriousness, I wonder if this means they are done with our files or something? Which could be good or bad...

...relax 🙂 everything will be fine.

(although I definitely thought the same exact thing when I saw that e-mail...)

Yeah, I got that email too and thought for sure it was a decision. Pretty funny on their part. Mean, but funny.

Still " decision pending" ...Is there any update on anyone else's status??:scared:

See you guys next Thursday, same time, same place?

Maybe they're just too busy to get the status changes up on the site, and we'll hear something before that anyway.

Hey I was in the same boat as you. Complete July 12. 4.0 32R. Called today kind of thinking .... seriously Illinois.... c'mon...

Talked with a "admissions Counselor" who pulled up my app and goes "oh my... you have been in line for a long time. Let me put a note on this and get it to the reviewers". 3 hours later my status changed from Application in process to Applicant in process. Unfortunately... the counselors are only in on Thursdays. If it goes another week with no change I'd recommend asking to speak with a counselor.

Good luck!!

I finally got the call!

...from my mom, wishing me luck on my (hopeful) admissions decision today.

I GOT IN!!!!!!!!🙂🙂🙂

...to work this morning and instantly checked my e-mail to see if I got into UIC.

No word yet.

:nono::nono::nono: naughty naughty.

i was hesitant to bump the thread yet again with a post, but since the business day is over i think we can all assume we're not hearing today. I no longer feel like i'll be giving people a heart attack the way these two posts did to me today. or that godawfultimed interview feedback questionnaire.

See you guys next Thursday, same time, same place?

agreed. catburr, peace, everyone waiting, i'm also still here and i wish you guys :luck:. Hopefully 11/3 will be the magic day!

to anyone who was wondering about why we were looking at thursdays, here's my original post:

2010-2011 cycle the first person to post a "A final decision has been made" was around 2pm on the 4th Thursday of October. (10-28)

2009-2010 cycle the first person to post a "A final decision has been made" was around 1pm on the 3rd Thursday of October. (10-15)

2008-2009 cycle the first person to post a "A final decision has been made" was around 5pm on the 4th Thursday of October. (10-23)

The 3rd/4th Thursday of October this year is the 20th/27th.

Is this good bad or ugly?

"A final decision was made on your application on 10-28-11. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."

OMG I have the same thing
"A final decision was made on your application on 10-28-11. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."
I also have the additional correspondence tab...I think from previous years this means good news..right? right?😍😍😍😍

I decided to post this time line (posted on the 2009 and 2010 threads) that was of great service to me this past cycle. I hope that it finds you well.

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. (hit NEXT button)

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.
M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.
N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.
S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.
X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

*** PLEASE BEAR IN MIND that this info came from 2009. Therefore, the whole process may have changed since then, and there is no guarantee to this information. But it worked for me (even though I was given the same warning) and the time line was accurate.

Good look to all of you class of 2016 applicants!!

Reposting for reference.

A final decision was made on your application on 10-28-11. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.

Time to greet the mail man everyday

I've got the same thing. Now I guess we just wait for the CBC email and/or the snail mail to be sure.

OMG I have the same thing
I also have the additional correspondence tab...I think from previous years this means good news..right? right?

+4....HOLLERRRRRRR guysssssss 👍 :highfive:

Additional Correspondence! All right!!!

GL to those still waiting!

Additional Correspondence! I'm kind of in disbelief that this is really an acceptance. I think the full omgomg silly excitement reaction might happen after I see the letter.

Big congrats to everyone else preparing to stalk their mailman! 😀

got the same thing!! is this really going to take two weeks??????? 😕

if this were anything but the Chicago Postal Service, I would say no, that UIC is just erring on the side of caution and making it 2 weeks so as to prevent people from calling them anxiously asking about their letter.

But...it is the Chicago Postal Service...🙄 I've had all my correspondence certified this cycle. It's probably a little bit of both.

is additional correspondance an actual tab you can click? or just a box that says additional correspondance?

Curious about this too. I see "additional correspondence" in the upper right, but nothing I can click on (or a date for that matter). Does this mean I don't have any additional correspondence?

just a box that says it. but it's in the upper RH corner as described.

I think that it means what interview letter date vs. confirm interview means. They populate it with the date of when they send out the snail mail equivalent. I think it's pretty clear cut whether or not you see "additional correspondence".

Confirmed here from last year's thread:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=728353&page=13

Last year, people began receiving packets as soon as the following Monday. All final decisions meant acceptance since no one was rejected/waitlisted at this stage.

tl;dr: If you have the words "additional correspondence" in the URH corner, I'm pretty sure you're in. :luck::xf:

yayyy UIC c/o 2016!:soexcited::highfive::banana::biglove:

For those with the 'Additional Correspondence' e-mails, did any of you interview after 10/05/11?

not an e-mail. it's a little box in the same grid of boxes as your interview information on your status page.

But yes, I did interview after 10/5.

Cool, add me to the 'Additional Correspondence' list!

Soooooo, the consensus is that this means 'GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!', correct?

I hope you all are right, because I got the "additional correspondence" box too. I'll be more convinced when I hear of someone having otherwise.

Been a long time since I've been on SDN. Just checking into this year's application thread to wish everyone good luck!

To answer the person who asked about OOS packages - there's really no scholarships or aid to speak of, both IS and OOS. The state of IL is broke. You'll depend on loans only, for the most part.

This has probably been brought up before, but in case some people haven't heard - subsidized federal loans have been eliminated by the current administration. Which is a huge, huge pain, as subsidized Direct loans were a great way to finance medical school education. Starting next year, we'll all have to rely on unsubsidized Direct loans and GradPLUS loans, which means hellacious interest. Financing a medical education gets harder day by day, unfortunately.

We've all been there, I know how you feel. Our application year was a record year (at the time) and the wait (both pre and post interview) is maddening. I interviewed Nov 2 and didn't get in until March. At the time, I was a little bit shocked too, considering the state school aspect. But historically UIC has let in too many people (over their quota of 300) and I think they're now very selective with their early acceptance letters. You'll see a lot of people frustrated with being on hold for months, and then a rush of acceptance letters early next year.

UICCOM's admissions process isn't designed to preserve your sanity. Just take comfort in the fact that most of us who are studying there right now went through the exact same anxiety and stress and miserable wait. Keep the faith, guys. It's still really early in the application process.

I'm an M2 right now; I remember bits and pieces of the application process, but probably not enough to answer detailed questions. But if anyone has any specific questions about the curriculum, the Champaign/Peoria/Rockford sites, or any other general med school questions, I'd be happy to try to help out. I'll try to be more regular on SDN.

A good approximation for the amount of debt you will be paying off up until the last payment is a little over twice the total COA. So for OOS that will be around 800k+.

I've been "Application in progress" for more than 10 weeks now!!! 😕😱:scared:🙁 It seems like a lot of you have been receiving interviews. Congrats! But, does anyone know what might be going on with my app? Assuming you have been in a similar situation.

I was in the same boat. I submitted my secondary on July 12th and FINALLY changed to Applicant in progress last Thursday (October 27th)... so that was 15 weeks for me... Believe me, I know your pain.

They have admission counselors in the office on Thursday only. I would probably give them a call this Thursday and ask them if something's not complete. I called at 11 am and by 3 pm my status had changed. The grad student I talked to was really cool and said "let me put a note on this and send it up and see what we can do... sorry it has taken so long".

Other than that there's nothing to do. I was in state with pretty good stats, from what I understand they have gone through and focused mainly on the stellar applicants >3.7 or so and probably >34/35 so far. Hang tight. There's still sooo much time.

So I couldn't help put spitting up some info from the MSAR ....

Last year UIC interviewed just about 845 applicants and accepted 598 = 70% acceptance rate for interviewed students.

You all have already interviewed and are among the best applicants most likely, so you have an even higher chance of acceptance (which is already incredibly high compared to other schools)...

The way I see it, if you take out the 20 to 25 students from the GPPA program, and factor in when you all interviewed I would definitely say you have about a 75-80% chance at ultimately being accepted. Of course.. This is just speculation 😛

not to mention if you're looking at MSAR, that's just matriculants, not accepted, which for a program like UIC, the accepted amount of people is noticeably higher than matriculated

ps, i got the additional correspondence tab also, 3.5cpga, 3.35sgpa, 35R, IS, good ec

So all of you who changed from application to applicant, how long was the wait usually before you heard back about an interview or got put back as an "application" status??

from applicant in process to interview i think it was 3-3.5 weeks

So I met with an admissions counselor today. He said that as far as applicants, he doesn't think the number will go over 10k, because the application deadlines were moved up. AMCAS deadline is today, and secondary deadline is in a month. He said normally that applications wait to be reviewed 6-8 weeks, but it's been taking a bit longer because of a change in people who review applications. He said hopefully alot of the problems have been ironed out and they can move faster. He also said that the first wave of acceptances and denial letters went out last month, and alot of denial letters will be going out this month (by snail mail). Interviews go though march, but I know that if you interview in march, you can't interview on the chicago campus.

I've been complete for 9 weeks, and he also told me that I am still waiting to be reviewed. I am not sure how often people to meet to review applications.

I wish you wouldn't have said that they sent rejection letters out already. If at all possible, this waiting sucks even more now.

Agreed. I hate waiting, especially when you know it is in the mail.

This might not mean post-interview
