However, in my excitement to nab a host quickly, I failed to read the stipulations (I saw they were listed above the available hosts before I chose one) and now, of course, I can't see whatever was there. I assume they state that we don't have to pick you up from the airport, take you back to airport, house you for more than the few days you need to be here for your interview, feed you, dress you, etc. A lot of people do most of those things for the applicants staying with them out of pure kindness, but don't expect it. That list isn't exhaustive, so don't expect that to have been all or any of the information you missed. If anything, it's just something good to know.
 
What exactly does this mean?

Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Your file remains "open" and eligible for additional reviews. Final decisions for all candidates will be made the first week in February. Thank you for your patience.

I would say that is exactly what it means, just an elaborate way of saying it.
 
I see... Has anyone been outright rejected, or I wonder if this is simply a less harsh way of phrasing that?

Perhaps, "not selected" would be less harsh. I believe that Michigan wil not be sending any rejections until Spring.
 
I have the same status and am assuming that, even if it isn't an outright rejection now, it likely will be. There are just way too many super qualified applicants for them to go back more than once to the hold file. That being said, there is always a chance.
 
what does M@m stand for. The twitter mentions it a couple of times before
 
did anyone receive a "complete" notification? or do we just assume if we got all of the checkmarks in on our status page that we're complete?
 
best way to get from the detroit airport to ann arbor?
 
Shuttle/cab should cost around $40 one way.

Yes they send a status update email and your status should say "File Complete- Under Review"

I am in Ann Arbor on business. The best way to get around the greater Detroit area is really to rent a car. Public transpo outside of AA is not great by any means.

PS: I haven't been reviewed yet, and my file has been complete since early July. I wonder what is going on.
 
okies! i just got put under review. i hope i'm not too late, esp being OOS. =\ i wasn't going to apply to mich originally because it was a reach for me but with all their propaganda, i've fallen in love and i decided to apply anyway! (i spent a whole day reading about mich before i even decided to apply when i could've been working on my other apps xD)

i kinda wish i had a smartphone now to track my progress. oh well!
 
Ever since I applied to this school, I've been paying a lot more attention to Michigan football.

Maybe if UMich wins --> admissions committee happy --> more willing to hand out interviews.
 
Since today marks me being under review for two months, has the question ever been settled as to what's better, "under review" or "on hold?"
 
Just got the Application Screening Complete/No interview. Apparently this is not a rejection, though (and they have started to reject), so I guess this isn't the worst of news. I'll probably have to update my file. Complete about a month ago, btw.

Surprised no one else has chimed in with this from the UM website:
Another option is the Michigan Flyer, bus service available from Ann Arbor to the airport seven days a week. There are seven trips to the airport each day, starting from the Four Points by Sheraton main entrance. Reservations for the $15 trip should be made in advance. You can park you car at the Sheraton for $2.00/day (advance reservation required) or take the AATA Route #36 bus directly to the Sheraton.

Fare is $30 roundtrip nonrefundable, or $42 refundable.
 
From their twitter it sounds like they're going to reduce the number of interviews they're giving out this year 🙁

English is a living language. Say it enough times and "less" will be the new rule.
Besides, we speak "American" not English around these parts.
 
SO... 25 fewer interview spots due to strength of applicant pool.

LOL. Tough decision? Not for them. I guess they got all the high stats applicants they wanted early on.

Michigan is pretty strict with residency. If you've never lived in Michigan before you show up here for school, no. They do accept a class that's ~50% OOS, however, and offer scholarships to strong IS and OOS students alike. If you have a very strong application, Michigan may be surprisingly affordable.
 
So question about those letters of update and intent. I have interviewed at five pretty good schools for far and am still head over heels in love with Michigan. I interviewed there a week a go and know that my applicant pools, review day is coming up. Is it in any way beneficial to message the admissions team with just an FYI, I am enthralled with the program and opportunities, even after visiting others schools...yada yada?

I don't want to just come off like a suck up or something, I just really did enjoy my visit.

You're certainly able to send a letter saying you thought the school was awesome. Some schools really like it when you brown nose. I don't believe Michigan puts much stock in that, one way or the other.
 
I am currently filling out the secondary for this school (didn't receive new mcat scores until recently) with a 33 MCAT and cGPA>3.8. Too late to apply?

Michigan does aggressively rolling admissions. Submitting the secondary now certainly puts you at a disadvantage, but there's probably still some hope if you have a great application.

You can check last years twitter, but if I recall correctly, the last 5 year average showed that they give out 13% of their admits (which we learned on interview day was 350) to applicants in September and October. I am not sure what percent applies in those months, but if they really get 5500 applications this cycle then it looks like about 25-35% of people applied in September and October.

Sounds like a great applicant pool...doesn't look good for those of us on hold!
 
Do people on hold after preliminary screening ever get interviews?? Anyone heard of that? I know that last cycle there were applicants who were "under review" up until they only had 5 spots left. If they couldn't review them one time, would they re-review those who didn't make the first cut?
