Mine had everything but the GPA/MCAT. All of my interviewers had thoroughly read my application and asked good questions about my activities so make sure you refresh your memory since it has been a while since submitting everything into AMCAS

Thx. That's actually what I am up to right now.

Interview question: is the student one open file?

I'm pretty sure my student interviewer had my whole file with him. And all three interviewers had read my ENTIRE application very thoroughly, so be prepared for them to be very familiar with that.

I think Mr. Ruiz is too busy to update the admission tracker. Wonder how many spots still left.

under review since 9/26... must have been passed over =/

i second this. My reviewers knew my file very, very well and had many questions for me about my life experiences and viewpoints. We went so much into my activities and secondaries that we didn't even get to the point where I ask them questions except for one interview and only for a really short time before I had to move on. the dinner the night before really exposes you to a lot of different perspectives about the school. I remember one guy spoke with such passion about ENT that I think I will have to take a look at it if I ever go to medical school.

Anyone know how many lucky people get accept off of the deferred list?

From last year's twitter:

Defer decision data: We have 65 (41 non-res/24 residents) we are considering for 12 admission offers (7 NR and 5 residents) on Dec. 22

But of course it be radically different this cycle (in either direction). Judging by how awesome they keep saying their current applicant pool is, I'm guessing it might be lower but who knows.

I will attend interview in early December and will like to stay in a hotel. Could someone please let me know which hotel is most convenient? Thank you!

+1

I believe, for the majority of us applicants-in-the-dark, the Michigan ship has already sailed.

Between their "oh wow, most impressive pool of applicants EVAAA!" to their sky-high projected MCAT averages, I've slowly lost interest in them and moved on.

Still a great school tho :meanie:

Whelp, that's what I get for being a decidedly average applicant

wait, so this is if you get the status update "highly desirable applicant" etc?

I'm not entirely sure about what the exact status is, but it should say something about "December decision" if I recall hearing what Mr. Ruiz said on interview day but I'm not sure if everyone has "highly desirable".

I stayed at the Hampton Inn North. I drove in (about a 10 minute drive) but they also have a shuttle service to the school. Plus free breakfast starting at 6am (since you have to be at the school at 7:30)

Ismet, thanks a lot for the information

Tweet on 11/23 from admissions office - "Do not exaggerate your AMCAS activities! We check--today 2 candidates will be rejected for listing something (Big!) they didn't, at all, do!"

wow.

wow.

I wonder what these folks did exactly.

Random but I've been hearing some not-so-positive feedback regarding 3rd year clinical rotations at UMich. Has anyone else heard this/know if it's true that "3rd yr at UMich is a 'nightmare'"?

I think 3rd year is notorious for being very difficult everywhere. UofM offers many opportunities 3rd year to see a variety of cases including things you'd likely not see in smaller hospitals. My tour guide mentioned that some clinical rotations were more vigorous then others.

I read some things about Mich in a different thread - a gist of it is that Mich likes to keep its own, and as a result, some people are not given the grades they deserve. For example, rumor (and I repeat rumor) has it that is hard to get honors, and passing is excellent in the 3rd year, but other Residency directors may not know that, resulting in students remaining at Mich because of this.

That is what I read - not my own words or ideas.

While I have never heard of this: the idea that professors sabotage students in some sort of grand conspiracy to force them to do residency at U-M is a bit ludicrous to me...

Take a look at where the students from U of M end up going to residency programs - it is on their website. I think you will find that your source is quite wrong.

This is complete bogus. UM students are competitive for any residency in the US. Michigan retains a lot of its own students because it is a fabulous heath system and the students are already familiar with the departments.

A good rule of thumb is to believe 10% of what you read on SDN, and of that, only use 0.5% to inform any decisions you make. And those are generous estimates.

Did any of you catch The Game yesterday? If that didn't sell you on coming to Ann Arbor, I don't know what could. Go Blue!

I watched it...what an amazing game!!!! I feel like I already belong at this school. I cheered with every touchdown and yelled at every bad play!

My decision for UM comes on Tuesday!!! :scared::xf:

11/11 and 11/18 decisions should be up on status pages. Good luck people!

Second this - congrats to all accepted from the recent interview days!

I wonder if this means updates are coming soon to tracker and picture profile pages.

Just posted on twitter:
Updated admission tracker coming--will reflect a change in the number of admission offers we intend to make this year-we'll make more.

Seems like the the decreased interview slots and the increased admission offers, people with an interviews have very good outlook.

Waitlisted. Anybody else? I'm bummed, I really liked Michigan.

When I interviewed, they said that in past years the waitlist wasn't used at all, but this year it might be because there's a very competitive applicant pool and people are likely to get a lot of offers from elsewhere.

But they also said they're dealing with the issue by making more acceptance offers, so they might not be using the waitlist more. So I guess it's a veiled rejection?

They reduced the number of interview slots again. there are only 83 interview slots left. Sigh.

I applaud the recently accepted students to U of M. They have respectfully refrained from rudely boasting on SDN about their accomplishments. Cheers to you 🙂

I was waitlisted as well. I really do like UM, but I almost don't think its worth it to reach out and try to get accepted as Ruiz basically said that the wait list was a rejection.

If I remember correctly, Director Ruiz said that he's usually discouraged from using the wait-list (and is frequently misquoted about it on SDN). The wait-list does not necessarily mean a rejection, just that in past years the wait-list has had little to no movement. This is all highly variable and obviously depends on the matriculation rate, but I would not give up quite yet!

+1. There's still a glimmer of hope, and I'm not completely tossing out UM because I absolutely loved it there. The odds are very against us, though, especially now that they're giving out more admission offers.

Got a status change to "Application Screening Complete" just now. Not an outright rejection but still unfortunate.

I'm still under review after 3 months (complete 8/30).

This makes me wonder if they're just continually pushing my app to the bottom of the pile. I didn't think my application was THAT bad

Application Screening Completed

Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Your file remains "open" and eligible for additional reviews. Final decisions for all candidates will be made the first week in February. Thank you for your patience.

Ahhh. Woke up to this, this morning. Although not positive, it's good to hear something/anything from Michigan. Was getting a little restless. Good luck everyone.

Me too. I haven't gotten that "screening complete" thing, or an II, or a rejection! Just still... under review. I was complete in late july/early august. hmph.

+2. I knew I was pretty much not going to get an interview at Michigan... but I wish they would just come out and reject me already! That tiny little flutter of hope definitely came up when I saw the email.

Would you mind sharing your stats? I like to think that they're just not sure about me, since I've been under review for sibling, but I'm sensing that's not the case.
