I definitely interpreted it differently.

It says: "Please explain all grades less than a “B” (including B-)" -- I think this means a B- is LESS than a B so you need to explain it. I think a short explanation indicating your grade was average or above average is all you need! Definitely not 2000 characters...

Also -- I agree with everyone else... this is the worst secondary. Just when I thought I was done with them all.. I almost don't want to do it.. talk about a weeding us out..

I agree with your interpretation. I explained my B- in Calc II. I wasn't a fan of the essay, I worked harder for that B- than most of my As.

Good luck everyone 🙂 While our secondary is bad, our MSI schedule is much better than most. And our interview day is amazing. But.. if you can't get through the secondary you'll never experience the awesomeness.

Secondary completed! I'm going to submit tomorrow as soon as I get the residency form back. :xf::xf::xf: 🙂

For the residency form, do we need to submit both the residency form and a scanned copy of our driver's license/voter registration?

I'm thinking just the residency form, but I want to be completely sure.

I understood that if you're claiming to be instate, you need to scan in a copy of your license and voter registration or vehicle registration...this is what i did.

From the site -

  • Florida Residents
    • Complete and submit the Residency Form. Also submit two of the following three forms of identification. Please scan together and submit as a single PDF.
    • Florida Driver’s License
    • Florida Vehicle Registration
    • Florida Voter Identification Card
  • Out of State Residents: Sign top portion and submit residency form.

I saw this...but it seems a little ambiguous. I have the completed residency form, so I need to scan my driver's license/voter registration and combine them both into a single PDF? Or do I just submit the residency form? What did you do?

Yes, I scanned the residency form and my driver's license/voter registration and combined them into a single PDF to upload.

So, I've been taking absolutely forever to finish this secondary. They sent me another link to it today; they probably thought I just didn't get the first one. I need to finish this...

Hah, same for me! I got out of the secondary groove, and I just can't get back in.

Good luck! I'm looking for some IS master's institution love myself!

Same. The other day I just powered through. Received the complete e-mail this morning btw.

I am powering through it at the moment. I have questions 4-8 to finish and should be done by the end of the morning sometime lol.

should we assume the person reading our secondary applicartion has read our PS or do I need to act like they dont know me at all?

Since many of the items seem redundant, I would treat it like they are being read by two different people.

when do you think we should start expecting interviews for OOS applicants?

do we have to submit an application photo anywhere? i don't see it in the application itself or on any instructions.

Is anyone interviewing this Tuesday? If so, I hope to see you Monday night at Jason's 🙂

Hey - I've been trying to see if they've reviewed me at all yet or not, but I can't seem to get through. Every time I get the 'press 1 if you are a current applicant w/Lastname A through M' I get a recorder.

I'd rather not leave a message as I'm not good at talking to them. But has anyone else had this issue? I've tried a few times on a few days now. Has anyone alternatively left a message and did they get back with you, either voicemail or email to them?

Thank you!

I e-mailed them at [email protected] about my status, and they responded a day later. :luck:

I feel like there is no option for wanting to go into Emergency Medicine for #1... Would it fall under "other", or what? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ya I thought the same thing...like what if you want to work in a hospital setting? Not sure what your answer there is though...

Anyone hear about OOS interview invites? How long did it take for your application to be reviewed? I just got the complete email, and I was wondering what the time frame was like...

Interview Invite!! In-state, complete September 1st.

I spent two days working on this app and finished only 4 of the 10 essays. I am desperate here...ITS SO HARD! Grrrrrr...last secondary and I cannot get it done...😡

What are the interviews like? It seems like it's just 2 student interviews?

You will have two one on one interviews, typically both are faculty but I know someone from my interview date had an MS4 as his second interviewer. They try to match you with someone you have something in common with, for example if you did research in toesock development, you may be interviewed by the chair of toesocky. I was from the Philadelphia area, as was one of my interviewers.

Very, very laid back interview day. Was my least stressful last year.

Oh, and I believe they are both open but they will give you all those details beforehand. And there is valet parking. Coffee rocks, students rock, admissions rock, noticing a trend?

The long secondary is very helpful for the interviewers and the committee (yes, it is looked at ahead of time). It is really your opportunity to show how you are unique, and what has brought you to this point in your life, and what you have to offer as an applicant.

There are two interviewers, with the potential of one being a MS4. There are only 4 fourth years who interview, and generally only 2 available on any given Tuesday, so you're much more likely to have 2 faculty interviews.

But for the record, the MS4's are awesome 🙂

Went to the USF Grad School Health Sciences open house last weekend. Was amazing! The new improvements are outstanding! The anatomy lab is great! I loved how open it is now and the new ventilation system. They also have swivel stands for touch screen computers and flat screens all around the lab. The new group study rooms are floor to ceiling white boards on three walls. The lockers are even pretty wood! There are so many improvements that you can tell they listen to their students! Hoping for some USF love next application season! I am near campus so if anyone needs help on interveiw days, let me know!

When the heck are these interviews going out?

Any idea how long after you're complete til you hear back?

For rose you you that get granted an interview, can you please post your stats? I am hopefully going to be in your position in a little while and would like to know what I may be up against in the future. Thanks in advance.

This really won't help you given our "holistic review" approach.

Interview invite for Nov. 14th!

Just wondering, when did you sumbit your secondary? And did your status read "your application is ready!" pretty much from the time you submitted it?

Just curious- are there meetups around each interview day or something? I haven't gotten an agenda yet. Thanks 🙂

I was actually invited to interview for SELECT, in PA, on the 14th. Does anyone know if this will be completely separate from a USF interview? Are there two committees/interviews or one for regular MD and SELECT? I was super excited and now I'm confused 😉 I know what the program is about, but any insight into the admissions process is very appreciated.

Also, people had asked- I was complete 8-16, 34, ~3.3 (nontrad- last two years since returning to school 4.0), OOS. I do have really unique experiences though, so don't use my #s as a guide by any means. I think it's all about the secondary, which I loved.

Good luck all!

If you chose to be considered for both the CORE and the SELECT programs, your primary/secondary will be reviewed and then you could potentially receive an invitation to interview for either 1) CORE, 2) SELECT or 3) both. Im not sure if there are necessarily two committees but the decisions are separate. This would be a great question for you to ask Mr. Perez or Mr. Houder in admissions, I'm sure their contact info was provided in your invitation.

Enjoy Lehigh Valley 🙂

There are two committees who meet independently.

There is a dinner the night before at a local restaurant. The information should have been included in the email you received when you scheduled your interview.

Has anyone who interviewed heard back (positive or negative)? I remember them stressing they'd have decisions back to us by two weeks.

BTW:
In-State
Secondary Submitted: 9/7
Interview: 10/4
