Has anyone, who had interviewed in December, heard anything?
I interviewed on 12/13 and haven't heard anything yet...Sooo anxious I swear I haven't been more than a foot away from my phone since last week and the mailman must think I have a crush on him the way I bolt out there haha. Hopefully we'll hear something soon! Best of luck to you!

Me too, I interviewed the same day and I was convinced that they were making acceptances this week.

Well then the most obvious explanation is that our entire group just wowed them so much we've all been accepted and since this is the first time in the school's history that this has happened they've hired Morgan Freeman to make our acceptance phone calls for dramatic effect and he's just so busy being Morgan Freeman that they've had to push the big day back a bit. Like I said, obvious right?

I wake up early every morning praying for a phone call. USF sure beats the other schools I've been to. Tomorrow is Friday the 13th, so perhaps our lucky day!!

I interviewed on 12/12 for the SELECT program and haven't heard back yet either.. doesn't sound like we'll be hearing back this week.

First time posting on this thread, but I was complete October 19th and have not heard anything. Is that a bad thing, or is the admissions office just bogged down because of the holidays? Any info would be appreciated, Id love the chance to interview here.

Does anyone have any idea what the acceptance rate is (post interview) for the SELECT program? Specifically, does it make a difference being OOS?

No idea about the acceptance rate (no one does because there has only been one class to matriculate and admissions was totally different) but being OOS does not hurt you at all.

I think you could be hearing back any day now. I completed my secondary end of September and just heard back a few days ago. I would think that the October people are next in line!

Ok Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better since I have been reading that OOS acceptance at USF is pretty low... but maybe that's only for the CORE program. I guess a better question to ask is, how many seats are there in a class of SELECT students? From what I've seen, it seems like a small group of people.

Our class is 19 students, 14 are OOS. The goal for the class of 2016 is 48 students and the ratio will likely be similar. With SELECT there is no preference given to state residency but with the third and fourth year being in the north and the tuition difference, some IS students may prefer core over select. It's hard to say because it wasnt well advertised last cycle.

So with that ratio of OOS to IS for select and the total for both core and select still being 120 is it safe to say that now there is only a little over 70 IS spots? Yikes that's a big difference and a big hit for IS applicants.

The total for the core program is 120. Because of how core is structured (being a state university program) it has to be primarily IS.

SELECT is aiming for 48. Because they are a distinct, yet integrated program, they don't fall under the same IS/OOS requirements.

So the complete total is 168, with the majority of those seats being CORE and thus primarily IS.

Oh gotcha! That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clearing that up!

Sorry, my post was in reference to a question specifically about select. 🙂
Because admissions is completely separate, it doesn't make sense to factor in our ratio of OOS with the core program. They are primarily IS and I've been told there is "some preference" given to FL residents.

This is exactly right. I'm a FL resident and have been accepted here (first choice for FL school btw, so YAY!!) From what I understand, the largest group of students matriculating at the USF Morsani College of Medicine come from USF, followed by UF (wow no surprise there, apparently close to 700-800 students from UF are applying to med schools this year), and then after that random pickings from across the country. I was told that a lot of north-eastern students that live in NY, NJ, OH, PA will be more interested in the SELECT program because of the clerkships done at Leigh Valley in the last two years.

In terms of FL students given preference for the SELECT program I'm not sure. Definitely for regular admissions, yes. What baffled my mind was on my secondary I opted to be reviewed for both the regular MD admissions and the SELECT program. Come interview day however I never heard one word about the SELECT program?? Don't know if that happened with everyone else.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to know where USF was at in the admissions cycle. If anyone has insight on the cycle, please feel free to contribute.

Those that have recent interview invites scheduled, when were you complete? Do any of you who have already received interviews know where they are in sorting through the applicant pool? I.e. I was finished with my secondary in September, yet my MCAT is subpar, do they overlook my application until an appointed time?

Hey dude, I also finished my secondary at the end of September. I guess we will both hear back roughly the same time... I'm also hoping we didn't get overlooked.

You've had some acceptances/interviews at some other schools though correct? I thought I saw that posted on another thread. If so, congrats! Patiently waiting from here on out.. 😀

Thanks, I have had one DO interview, and one MD interview coming up. I haven't received anything from FL MD schools, though. Keeping my fingers crossed for sure. There is definitely still time!! Let's not lose hope just yet 😀 GL

Applications are reviewed in the order which they are received. USF is rolling admissions, so "where they are in the cycle" is completely dependent on how many people have been interviewed and accepted up to this point.

I was accepted into the Core program. Here's my timeline:
Complete: 10/17
Interview Invite: 12/2
Interview: 12/13
Accepted: 1/18
Congrats to the other acceptances and good luck everyone!!

Complete: 10-6
Interview Invite: 11-30
Interview: 12-6
Accepted into Core: 1-18

They called me to offer admission, which I wholeheartedly accepted! To those of you with questions, please feel free to PM me.

Ruh oh. Complete in September...

Anyone with a SELECT interview in December, hear anything thus far?

Interviewed for SELECT in December.... still haven't heard anything...

Everyone that's been accepted.. were you accepted to Core or SELECT???

For those still waiting for an interview invitation (like myself), I have a few words of encouragement! I spoke with a couple of first-years yesterday and they said they weren't invited for interviews until late January / early February. Like ejw5075 and others have stated before, there is plenty of time for us!

I also interviewed for SELECT Dec. 12th. Havent heard anything yet, so keeping my fingers crossed :xf:

I emailed the school asking about response times because I was under the impression that we were supposed to hear back around this time. I will post the result as soon as I get a response!

just out of curiosity, does anyone know how many people SELECT interviews?

The response was "you Will be hearing back with a decision very soon"

Anyone complete on or after 10/19 get an II yet? I see that the group who was just accepted were complete around that time. Have I been passed over?

I was complete on 10/23 and I have not heard anything back as well. Don't apply late, lesson learned!

While it is very true that the earlier you get your application in, the better your chances are, here are a few things I've noticed over the years:

The applicants who get the first three months of interviews are usually those with 4.0, 45 and have cured cancer in babies in Africa (ridiculous hyperbole, but you know what i mean). They tend to not end up matriculating at USF.

Most 'normal' (term used loosely, who in their right mind actually puts themselves through this mess) applicants generally get reviewed around this time and end up getting interviews towards Feb-April.

Bottom line - unless there are gross deficiencies in your application, it's not time to panic yet. The committee has upwards of 3,000 applications to review (and yes, even if you have an MCAT of 7, you get reviewed) and will invite 300-500 to interview.

Getting an interview and getting an acceptance is the absolute. Worst. Part. Of. Medical. School. Emphasis intended. So do whatever you need to to get through this insanity, but know that statistically you still have a good shot of getting an interview.

Hey, do you think, by any chance, that this logic applies to all state schools both in Florida and in other states? There are still UF and UM in your state, right? Do you think they follow the same guidelines? Would you think this is common practice at state schools?
