I was just wondering what the post-interview acceptance percentage is for OOS...

Do you happen to have the data of how many OOS get accepted after interviews?

Dude, buy the USNews report if you're that concerned with this. 2011 MSAR says they interviewed 80 OOS students and 7 matriculated. I'm gonna assume they accepted probably 15-20 OOS students, but that's a complete guess.

I have the USNews report (2010 edition), but it says they had 60 OOS interviewed, and 66 accepted in the 09-10 cycle... So I'm doubting the data...

2011 US News doesn't give the acceptance data for this school.

This is all they have for OOS:

-Applied: 586

-Interviewed: 81

-Enrolled: 5

Also, keep in mind that all the public Texas medical schools (except for Baylor, since it's private) have to take a minimum 90% Texans by law, and most take more than 90% by practice.

Interviewed here today.
By far the easiest interviews yet. Also, UTMB really respects your time. The day started at 8:30 and was over at 2:30. There was an optional program they sprang on us at lunch, but it didn't last long. I didn't stay bc I had to get back to Dallas. Everyone was really nice and made me feel at ease. This is another Texas medical school with great hospitality. The interviews are supposed to be blinded, but sometimes the interviewers read your app anyway. I got a great tour of the place too. The hospital wasn't that crowded. One thing I will warn you guys about is that this place is really spread out and there are many buildings that are under construction. As such, it can take a little bit longer to get from one interviewers office to another, so don't delay going to your second interview after your first. Everybody stressed that UTMB is really laid back, and they seem practice what they preach. Also, there is a really cool library with rare medical books you should check out. I loved the place and could easily see myself going here. There apparently is no pharmacology course and the most frequent complaints I heard from the students was that Wal Mart was too far away (if that is the biggest complaint, that ain't bad!!). Also, UTMB stresses problem based learning. All in all, really cool place.

any OOS acceptances yet?

Do you guys know when UTMB releases OOS acceptances by any chance?

still waiting anxiously. fingers crossed, even though one of my interviews went really badly.

Good luck! You know what they say about interviews you think went badly... :xf: Besides, you're an OOS applicant, so just the fact that you got an interview means you are probably an amazing applicant. I'm sure things will go well for you soon.

(One of my interviews elsewhere was so bizarre that I am RE-interviewing there in a few weeks. Oof!)

Re-interview? How does that work? Did you ask them for one?

Yeah, I emailed afterwards. I don't recommend it as a strategy--if your interview just goes "badly" instead of "five-alarm-fire-crazy" I imagine they add your file to the Crazy Neurotic pile--but I'm going back during the week for another round.

Received my second II today from here 🙂. Submitted my app back in May, so there's hope for those still waiting.

Does anyone have an interview on the 28th of this month?

Does anyone know if all the interview spots are filled up? According to their website, here are the interview dates left:

October 28
November 4, 11, 18
December 9

I'm asking because the December 9 date seems pretty soon...will we know soon if all the interview spots will be taken and those of us without invites will be rejected by default? Has anyone gotten an invite in the past few days? If so, what date?

Thank you! :luck:

is anyone else sdn interview feedback for galveston not working? if its working for you can you post some interview questions? My interview is in 3 days and I need to prepare. thanks!

"Tell me about yourself."

"Why do you want to be a doctor?"

"Why do you want to study medicine at UTMB-Galveston specifically?"

"What sort of exposure to medicine have you had?"

"What do you do for fun?"

I know they seem obvious, but those are the big ones. :luck:

👍 One that got me before was "What book are you currently reading?"

If you don't get an II by November 11th, I am 90% sure you are rejected

That's pretty grim. hahaha

Any interview invites lately? Are they out of interview spots? There are only four dates left to interview 🙁

Finally got an II!

Transmitted end of May. Update letter sent over a month ago.

Congrats man!

So that means they've sent interview invites for all but their last date (12/9). That's kinda depressing, I really wanted to interview here. Oh well, still a slim hope for the last one.

Can any current students comment on whether UTMB still gives full rides?

Yes, UTMB awards full scholarships to students. I also think they're generous with other scholarships. I was taken off the waitlist like a month before classes started and I still got a 10K/yr scholarship (which I didn't have to apply for).

IF you dont mind me asking....What kind of information did you include in your update letter? Thanks.

Just stuff I've done since I submitted my primary in May. Shadowing hours, volunteer hours, lab work, internship, grades. Then I included a paragraph about what I liked about Galveston.

Just basic stuff.

I interviewed back in September. I'm just curious on how UTMB select people for their prematches. So I assume people with great stats get accepted first and others go straight to the match? Anybody knows how much prematches they give out on average?

So I interviewed here yesterday. I had one interview that lasted about 45 mins. and another that lasted about 70 mins. My interviewers did not know my MCAT and GPA but had the rest of the TMDSAS application information. I had a really good time in each interview. My interviewers were great people. As for my impression of the school, I think the school does a great job teaching. Last year's class had a a 234 Step 1 average and something like a 95-97 Step 2 average. There are also a wealth of research opportunities, and I liked all the different "tracks" that they had. The students all seemed to genuinely like the school. As far as the city of Galveston goes, I personally feel that it is a nice quiet town situated right next to the beach. Traffic isn't bad and Houston is about a 45 min. drive away. I really enjoyed it. I'm OOS, btw. I hope I can get in.

Wow, it's a good thing I checked my spam folder. Apparently I was sent an invite almost a week ago!

called up UTMB today, looks like theyre having one more interview on December 16th..said the latest they will notify you by is the last week of november/first week of december

Just withdrew my interview invite for 11/18. Hopefully one of you guys will have it.
