Might take a trip down to Galveston after prematch, regardless of whether or not I get in.

I actually really enjoyed the beach there. Don't understand why people hate on it.

Yes, UTMB awards full scholarships to students. I also think they're generous with other scholarships. I was taken off the waitlist like a month before classes started and I still got a 10K/yr scholarship (which I didn't have to apply for).

For people who are prematched or matched, do they get scholarship offers with their acceptance or do they have to wait until the spring to be notified of their merit-based financial aid?

Someone in another thread said that UTMB won't be giving out Pre-matches until a few days after Nov. 15. Can any Med Student or pre-med who called the admissions verify this?

According to one of my interviewers, a microbiology PhD working in the Galveston National Lab, the color of the sand and the water hasn't been the same since hurricane Ike hit Galveston.

She believes the hurricane caused a lot of the natural bacterial flora that resided at the bottom of the ocean plus a lot of the pollution from the oil companies to come out and mix with the tourist beach. According to her, that mixture can possibly harm you if you continuously expose yourself to it.

Oh my.

I suppose the delay in pre-match offers was not true; just received my first med school acceptance at exactly 12:03AM!

Good luck to everyone!

Just got accepted to UTMB. Good thing I was up for other reasons 🙂

Someone give a medal to the adcoms who are working right now 👍

Yeah they started at midnight this year I guess.
Got mine at 12:30

Accepted! I am moving my allegiance to the great state of Texas.

OOS
Accepted - UTMB
Accepted - Texas Tech

Accepted: you can say I'm OOS lol

Interviewed on 08/05 I think

Accepted at 12:00 AM on the dot!
Nice surprise!
Powerpoint was cool too, even though the song is cheesy

AHHH, just woke up and saw I was accepted! Super excited! OMG thank you GOD! I'm going to a Texas School! Yay!

For OOS students, is this the only acceptance release? I can't remember how they said out of state acceptances work.

I don't think so - I think we're basically on the same timeline as in state kids as far as dates when they're going to release decisions...so one more date in December and we should all know by February, I suppose. You might want to call to double check in a few days, when things clear up and you'll have a better chance of reaching the admissions office through the phone.

Anyone accepted who interviewed 9/30 or after?

Accepted! OOS
interviewed 8/26
3.8/34Q
Thought I had no shot here, interview went badly.

Congrats! Did you just get the email?

gmail says I got it at 5:27 last night, was really busy last night with an orchestra concert and a project, so I might have gotten it last night and not noticed.
Maybe they sent OOS a few hours early since we can find out before the 15th.

Can any current students comment on whether scholarship information is included in the letter or is given later in the year?

Just wanted to say congrats to all you new MS0s on your acceptances, be they at UTMB or other medical schools! 🙂 Personally, I would encourage you all to come to UTMB, but I love it here and that may make me biased (or maybe it's the weird flora in the beach water getting to me 😉)

And sorry, I don't know anything about the scholarships UTMB offers because in order to be eligible for any scholarships, you have to include your parents' information on the FAFSA. I've been supporting myself since I was 18-19 (I'm 25 now), so my parents simply wouldn't give me the information 🙄 Evidently being married, independent and 25 years old isn't enough to let me file my own FAFSA with out mommy and daddy... So needless to say, I don't know.

And for those who didn't get a pre-match offer yet, don't worry -- plenty of people in my class (including me) got in on Feb 1!! And even some after the match as well, so it is NOT over until the first day of school in August 2012 lol! Good luck to you guys! :luck:

I was speaking of merit-based scholarships. They're typically offered before medical schools even receive FAFSA.

Maybe it has changed in the last couple years, but at Tech-Lubbock's recommendation, I sent a copy of my FAFSA to all the med schools I applied to in order to be eligible for all scholarships, merit-based included. And without parent info, I was unable to qualify for any, need-based or merit-based. So, by the time I was accepted, they had my previous year's FAFSA.

I'm super excited about this school. Will there be a chance to come back and take a second look under less formal conditions? I guess I could drive down and meander around the campus

congrats to all those accepted!! And to all those still awaiting II, I spoke with admissions today and they will be sending a batch if II out tomorrow. So goodluck and :xf:

The interview day ends early. I would recommend doing it then. Part of the hospital is under construction so I had to have someone help me find one of my interviers. Also, they have an awesome rare medical book collection so check that out. My interview day started at 8 and ended at 2. Also, they were the easiest interviews ever.

This is my top choice and I'm so anxious to hear back from this school. Does anybody know how many more batch of prematches will be sent? I heard they sent out another batch in December and that is it.

The most helpful thing you can do in deciding among (or between) schools is to talk to current students, especially M3s and M4s.

Nose goes.

idk how to do that, maybe someone else that knows how would rather do it... somebody?

That personalized call was slightly awkward.

yeah, I "missed" mine and got a very awkward voicemail. I would have been more inclined to answer if their number didn't come up as "unknown". I ignore those 'cause they're usually telemarketers or something.

I missed the personal call but it was from an MS2. The guy seemed cool and it wasn't awkward at all.
