From what I remember hearing, they mail acceptances so you just gotta wait for that to come in

Last year they called the day after meetings, because I was with my roommate when it he got the call. He just told me they aren't calling this year because some high ups didn't like the calls so it's gonna be by mail. I'm either accepted our rejected at this point because I was not wait listed

Gotta be an acceptance 👍

I sure hope it's an acceptance because if not I'll be completely deflated after how it went down for me last year...

Does anyone know what Quillen's policy is about having an extra guest with you on interview day?

I would think it'd be alright to have someone along during the tour since you can schedule those without getting an interview anyways, but you might want to call ahead and ask to make sure.

She did actually tag along on the regular tour over the summer. I'll probably just call. It won't be a big deal either way. I was just curious how they felt about having significant others (soon to be more significant) there.

This will be more than OK. Notify Amanda Cole and let her know your significant other will be tagging along.

Quillen wants significant others to tag along. Choosing what medical school is best for you is most definitely a "joint" decision.

Multiple classmates brought their spouses along on interview day.

If you have any other questions, please ask!!!👍

Awesome! Thanks for the input. I'll get in touch with her tomorrow.

As per AAMC medical schools cannot tell you if you have been accepted to their schools before October 15th, unless you are early admissions applicant. Everybody who interviewed to date will either be waitlisted or rejected until Oct 15. Maybe you will hear something on Oct 16 😀

That's great and all lol but I was early decision.... So disheartening...

I'm pretty sure I interviewed with you, and I'm really sorry to hear that man. It is early and there will definitely be SOME waitlist movement. I'm really nervous about my fate at this point.

Man it's tough to hear that news again. Really thought I'd get in with that first pool. Trying to stay hopeful, but it's very difficult.

I understand completely, especially considering your spot in line last year. But you've got support. Hang in there.

New member. Got an interview for October 4. In-State, MCAT 29, GPA 3.9. Looking forward to meeting you all. Guero, I'm a belmont student.

Look forward to meeting you, too. There will be more than usual SDNers there this Thursday. And if you're a Belmont student, I may very well already know you! 🙂

😳 Do not give up.
AMCAS received my letters on Tuesday and my scores came out yesterday, so maybe I'll hear from Quillen soon. However, I'm not too hopeful as the MCAT didn't turn out very well for me. 🙁 Guess I'll have to start thinking about next year.

Oh. My. God! Just wait until I have time to spill my guts about how awesome of a day we all had and how Quillen managed to blow me away with more improvements! They just don't stop coming!

Stay tuned!

Is this school oos friendly for southern states?

I would imagine it depends on which state and/or if you have any strong ties. From what I recall from yesterday, someone said that there are maybe 5 or 6 OOS students in this year's M1 class with all but maybe 1 receiving IS tuition, meaning that the others were probably from a border state in the Appalachian area such as NC or VA.

EDIT: Just double-checked and there were 4 OOS students this year, all coming from NC and VA.

Okay, so the day starts off by arriving at the admissions department's suite where they give you a folder with information about the school (e.g., financial aid, unique aspects about the school, etc) and a name tag. You'll then sit in that room while you wait for the rest of the interviewees to arrive. There's a couch and a few comfy chairs surrounding a flat screen that plays a spiel about the medical school on repeat.

Once everyone arrives, they take your picture before escorting you to a room where the admission's secretary, Stephanie Cole, gives a presentation on what sets Quillen apart from other schools. Then Joyce Underwood will give a presentation on financial aid. At the end of the financial aid presentation , two M1s or M2s will come grab you for the tour of the campus and med student center. You can ask them anything you want without fear that it'll trickle back to the committee; but be reminded that they have no idea about anything other than year one. You'll be greeted by an M3 and an M4 at the hospital for a tour and lunch, where you'll get a free ticket to eat as much as you like. This is your opportunity to really ask the questions that mean the most: How are clinicals? How prepared did you feel for the USMLE? Looking back on your experience, do you think you made a good school choice? If you ever interview at a school and never get to meet an M3 or M4, beware. The M1s are still star struck and have yet to delve into the meat of the curriculum (at least at this school, anyway, as the meat of classes begin at M2). They'll generally always be happy. The M3s and M4s on the other hand will give you their honest opinion about the entire process. Same goes for residency interviews.

Anyway, after lunch, you're escorted back to the admissions suite for your two interviews, 60 minutes max. I had two of the best interviews ever. The first one was a conversation with a non-medical administrator on the undergrad side and was entirely chill. Even though she had my file minus grades and MCAT, she shoved it aside and just started asking me relaxed questions. The time flew by!

My second interview was like sitting at a bar talking to some random, but superbly interesting dude. We actually "shot the s***" and ended up going 15 minutes over, but in a good way. I got to ask him as many questions as he asked me. Then, as I was walking to my car, one of the M1s that did the tour stopped me and started talking. He, the other M1 and I all just sat around and talked for about 30 or 45 minutes before I realized I needed to leave to avoid Knoxville traffic on the way back home. I simply cannot adequately convey how awesome my time here was.

Anyway, on to the amazing changes that have been made. Guess what? When you're in anatomy, (1) you share a cadaver with 4 students, (2) you have an iPad suspended at the foot of the dissection table to assist in identifying difficult muscles, tendons, nerves, or insertions/origins, and (3) you have 5 MDs pacing the lab to help you during class.

The student center is now finished, only accessible to med students, and complete with lounge, kitchen (that janitorial staff help keep clean), about 10 study rooms, including singles, doubles, quadruples, and two 10 seater group study rooms. They have two lecture halls, an M1 and an M2. The M2 is brand new. Each room has projector screens and such. All lectures are recorded and available online if you prefer learning on your own time. Attendance is not required (but as you probably know, don't skip labs or anatomy). Their simulation labs include a patient that can respond to injected drugs, one that allows pelvic surgery, etc.

Last, but definitely not least, this is what happens after your interview: Your interviewers immediately type up their evaluations after you finish interviewing. Those, along with your entire file, then go to a committee of 4 people, 25% of which are med students. They each assign you a score from 1, woops we made a mistake in interviewing this tool, to 9, admit this gift to our campus immediately, for a score from 4 to 36. That score is then presented to a committee and either voted upon or put on hold. As JCTWP46 said, they meet on Oct 22. For all of us that've interviewed, we'll receive notice via mail if we're accepted or rejected, or an email if we're on hold.

Feel free to ask me any questions I may've missed. Good luck!

This may have already been said. Almost everyone goes on their WL this early. I remember being sad last October because I got put on their WL (because you feel like you will never get in). I'm now an M1, and people I interviewed with that day are in classes with me. For a lot of you guys going this early, it's not a question of "Will I get in" but "Where will I get in"?

Were you first considered at the end of October? How long was it before you got the acceptance?

Also, for those of you staying at a hotel for your interview, I chose the Hampton Inn. It's relatively cheap, less than a mile away from Stanton Gerber Hall (where you interview), has unlimited juice and fruit 24/7 plus a free hot breakfast every morning, and you receive unlimited free passes to a nearby gym. I took two passes, one for the evening I stayed, and one for the next day so I could come back and comfortably change out of my suit after the interview before driving back home. I highly recommend the place.

I interviewed 10/3/11. Put on hold on 10/25/11 (got the email the morning after the adcom meeting). I was on the WL for about a month, ended up getting into my first choice school and withdrew from the WL at QCOM (Incidentally, another guy I'm in school with now interviewed the same day as me at Quillen.)

Quillen has to be a little more stingy on the front end than, say, UT - just because of the class size. In the end, about 1/2 of the people they interview will be offered an acceptance. And interviewing early is a real good thing.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the info. 👍

So, anyone else planning on massively freaking out if they don't get an email on 10/23? In such a case, my severely hampered powers of deducation would indicate that I should be expecting one of two letters if I don't get an email that day. LoL Plus I'm already dying of waiting. Baaaah.

I'm right there with you. :d Hopefully things will work out for the best. I felt like both of my interviews went well and that there wasn't really anything said in either one that would hurt my chances.

Ditto. I wish the interviewers had more say in the process.

Good luck! We're all in this together.

On a totally unrelated note, I just noticed a funny typo in my post, "deducation." Hehe.

How long did it take before you all received your secondary? This is the only one I haven't completed yet, and it's making me nervous.

Check my MDApps. It has a timeline for each of my schools. I can't remember off the top of my head; but I know it was fairly soon after submitting. Good luck!

Yeah, I checked your MDApps already, and you received one early. My AMCAS was verified much later than your application, so maybe that's what's holding it back. I don't know, I think I'm competitive.

Thanks for the help though!

Yes, but sub 10/15 for 10/23. I'm driving down to Atlanta this weekend just to try to get my mind off it... we'll see if that works...

Ok thanks, I might have been rejected then if it's taking this long.

I'm thinking the same thing, except i'm thinking new york instead of Atl...somehow that's a shorter drive now. Definitely been freakin out since I got that waitlist email though

Ooh, that would be fun too! Where are you from in TN that's closer to NY than Atlanta?

I've spent the last 45 minutes looking through last year's thread and it scares me to think they could put me on hold and make me wait until late next spring. It makes me nervous. 🙁 I hope that they decide to either accept me or reject me outright. But, I have this inevitable feeling that I'll be wait listed. Ah, I'm getting nervous and the committee still doesn't meet for another week.

Oh my gosh - just got a call from Dr. Bagnell. ACCEPTED!!! I'm shaking so hard I can barely type this. I feel so honored and so incredibly blessed.
