Let me know if you guys have any more questions!

Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to do this! I am very impressed indeed.

Has anyone inquired about their place on the wait list (which third/half etc)?

Anyone on SDN who went to the second look today? If so, anything you can share?

Yeah I was there, what sort of information are you looking for?

It was alright, there was about 100 people there, but only maybe 50-60 were accepted students. They were just giving more information about the school and introduced the staff and had them talk to us, largely trying to tell us why they thought we should go there.

They brought in some patients and told some stories about their experiences with FIU. After lunch they had us go to their simulation center and get a better look at what sort of activities you'd be doing as a student. It was good for me since on my tour for some reason we never got to see the sim center. All in all it was pretty standard fare I'm sure, there wasn't anything ground breaking if that's what you mean.

It was nice to hear from the deans that we'd heard about and maybe hadn't gotten a chance to hear speak. Dr. Wertheim gave a cameo and talked to us as well, which was a surprise. He was about to go jet setting around the world with his grandson and then host his bar mitzvah in Dubai. I wonder if he knows how lucky he is? lol

Has anyone heard of any post-interview rejections? Seems like for the most part the majority of interviewees have been placed on alternate.

Barley, where are you thinking of going? I'm accepted at many of the same schools as you.

Hey Ya'll,

Should all of the admissions decision alternates expect to hear back after May 15th? There won't be any decisions earlier than that right?

I can't directly speak to this year's app cycle, however I'd imagine it won't be too different from last year. Now that they are done with interviews, they will offer spots as they become available. I interviewed November last cycle and was accepted May 12th. I know many others in my class who got accepted off the wait list in March, April...

Don't lose hope

Hey All,

I tried sending an update to them via Email because I wanted to upload them my research poster and I got this response the same day on March 31 (Sunday).

Thank you for your email. As you know, you are on our Alternate List. At the present time, the list is not moving; applicants with multiple acceptances have until May 15th to make a decision on which seat to retain.

Best wishes,

Dr. Barbra Roller

According to the information they sent when I was notified that I'm on the waitlist, they will not let us know our rank on the waitlist, but do they do the top 1/3, middle 1/3, bottom 1/3 thing? I looked through my notes for interview day and I guess it wasn't addressed.

As far as I can remember, we do not do the "thirds" thing as UCF does. You are given a score when your file is initially reviewed and will be pulled off of the list in that order as spots become available. I know the wait is agonizing, but try to hang in there. :luck:

Did you send the email to Dr. Roller? Or to the [email protected] account?

Do any of you know about scribing positions at Baptist Hospital? or scribing programs that are affiliated with baptist? Sorry for the random reply 🙂

I also received a full tuition scholarship at FIU. Beautiful campus, approachable faculty, integrated curriculum, community outreach and involvement from the beginning.

Good luck!

Can you tell me about your application? I want to know what make you eligible for the full ride so that I can give it a try too.

I applied to be a scribe at Baptist a little while ago and was turned because I didn't speak Spanish.

Here's the company that hires for Baptist (at least they were when I applied): http://www.scribesstat.com/

3.75 gpa from FL state school, dual degree BS Biology, BA Philosophy, 34R MCAT, tons of ECs and decent research. Nothing crazy

A little over a month until May 15th...the wait is killing me. Hopefully people that aren't seriously considering FIU start withdrawing soon. Does anyone know if there will be another second look/ welcome back date for applicants accepted later off the waitlist?

I don't think they will do another Second Look, but I'm sure you could informally get together with some students or go by the school and take another look yourself and talk to some current students.

And don't fret, many spots will become available in no time, possibly even mine after I think through things. Good luck :luck:

I want to go to this school so badly. It's my alma mater and if I could get in it would make me so happy.

ANYWAY.

For the person interested in scribing for Baptist shoot me a message. I worked at Main Baptist for several months and have been working for South Miami and West Kendall baptist for over a year.

Thanks. One more question for accepted students that are still considering FIU: have you received a financial aid estimate yet or is that one of the reasons you are still deciding?

It looks like I'll be going to FIU, other schools offered partial scholarships but the full tuition scholarship is clearly attractive.

Withdrawing my spot and full-tuition scholarship. I hope it goes to a compassionate and hardworking future physician! 😀

Anyone else receive the e-mail today asking if you wanted to remain on the waiting list?

I also received it, now wondering whether everyone received it as well... Man do I wish they were slightly more clear on their intentions. Three weeks until may 15th.

3 weeks of straight torture

Many schools send out emails like the one FIU sent out. This is because a lot of people stay on waitlists when they are accepted elsewhere even if they have no intentions of going to any other school (like the one they are waitlisted on). Applicants, at this point in the cycle, often neglect to withdraw acceptances or waitlist spots and its just a way for adcoms to try to move along the process.

I just received two letters from the Financial Aid Office. In them they include a Panther ID, which I used to log into a my.fiu.edu account. I haven't been admitted yet though. Has anyone else received anything similar? Trying to decide whether this is something everyone gets, or if it's a good sign 🙄

Snail mail?

Withdrew from the waitlist today. Liked the school and the people there, but I could not get past the financial aid presentation. The day of my interview, the woman doing the presentation was cracking jokes about how expensive the school was and telling us that we shouldn't pick schools based on how much debt we'll end up with. It left a bad taste in my mouth, to be honest.

Good luck to everyone else!

I received a letter that sounds like this one from FIU months ago and I am still on the waitlist. I figured it had something to do with me applying to FIU undergrad 4 years ago. Did you find out yet?

I have not yet. Fingers still crossed for the 15th!!

Just 6 days until the 15th. Has anyone heard anything other than the Financial Aid letters? and am I the only person that checks this thread everyday?

Now I'm kind of worried since I haven't received any financial aid letters. But don't worry, you are definitely not the only one stalking this thread.

Did you send them your FAFSA? It might have only gone to the waitlisted people who have already submitted their FAFSA to FIU.

Yes, I sent them my fafsa already. Maybe I'll receive it later.

Yeah, I sent it on the first day FAFSA opened so maybe that's why I got it months ago. Don't worry because from what I can see it doesn't give you any other information other than they received your FAFSA.

I noticed that my status page now has a panther ID, I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when I first got my alternate status. My status is still alternate list though.

Your right. I didn't notice until now that you said it. Good sign? I really hope so. But most likely everyone that makes it this far gets an ID.

I also submitted it on the first day. Was there a separate school selection on the fafsa for their medical school? Because some schools had their medical school listed separately from their undergrad and some schools only had one school listed. I hope I didn't mess up or something. The good news is that I checked and I also have a panther id on my status page. Even though it might be nothing, it's still progress in my eyes. Can't wait for the 15th!

From what I remember there was not a medical school code separate from the FIU code. I like the way you think; lets hope we won't have to wait beyond next week before all of us hear some good news!

Just received my acceptance yesterday! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!
