I just got an Interview invite--i'll be there 9/21. I sent them an ''in the area'' e-mail yesterday or the day before because of my GWU interview...of course, the dates available were no where near my GWU interview lol oh well...still thankful for the invite!

Did u mention u had an interview at GW??

No way, that'd be unprofessional as ****! Why would you mention that? I'm treating my application cycle as a real job hunt--if I wouldn't do it applying for jobs, I won't do it applying for medical school. I guess many people on here have never applied for real jobs now that I think about it

I mentioned in my in the area email that I had "a separate interview in the area" and got an II the day after. i think it's helpful to provide a (vague) reason as to why you're there in the first place. just my opinion--worth no more than any other applicant.

I completely agree. Adcoms realize you're applying to more than just their school. Many schools specifically ask to be notified if you're in the area so they can take that into consideration, ie cornell.

lol maybe i should just tell them i'll be in DC so i can get a decision faster hahaha

I disagree. Just because you're treating the application cycle as a job hunt does not mean all the same rules apply. I'm sure >90% of the people applying to Georgetown are also applying to GWU and vice versa. Applicants expressed their specific interest in each program in their secondary essays and to mention that they've received an interview at the other school in the same town is simply honest (and assumed, anyway). "Unprofessional as ****" is overstating it a bit.

Whatever you say. All I know is if I were walking into a Wall St. interview and said "oh hey, I'm going to be interviewing at a competing bank---can I get an interview?" I'd get thrown out of the run before it even started. Maybe that's just bank/finance culture

Tell us more, oh great money man.

I somewhat agree with bumbl3 on this, don't mean to start an argument but I think the important thing to convey in the "in the area" is that you are in the area, plain and simple. the reason for you being there probably won't make or break their decision to grant you an interview during that time..

so have alot of you been successful with sending one of those? I've been debating but at this point the interview slots surrounding my GW interview day are probably full so it'd just be in vain.

Look dude, you can say whatever you like but I know 95+% of the pre-med on this forum (reading or commenting) are probably upper middle or high class kids who have never had to work or apply for a full-time job. I have gone through that process (non-trad) and, like I said before, if I told someone that I'm only asking for an interview because it would be convenient for me because a competing bank is offering me an interview around those days...they're going to tear you a new one.

a) I honestly don't know how helpful it was for me, but it's a harmless e-mail, it can't hurt as long as your content is appropriate b) when is your interview at GW? The earliest date yesterday was Sept 19th I think--all the earlier ones were probably taken

I sent an "in the area" email mentioning my interview at Georgetown. Having already been placed on hold for re-review at George Washington, the email did not get me an interview invite. I am suspicious that my average stats and less than perfect fit at GW are responsible for this, but I suppose it's possible my email could have been worded in a forward fashion. I'm assuming the Georgetown process would be similar to GW, seeing as they receive a similar number of applicants. Like bumbl3b33 says, couldn't hurt.

I wouldn't worry about your "average" stats, i have a lower mcat than you (similar gpa) and got an interview at GW, seriously this process is so convoluted, who knows what schools are looking for!

Is gtown an open or closed file interview? Any other general information about the actual interview is appreciated.

is there on-campus parking?

Directly from the interview link in the e-mail:

"PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PUBLIC PARKING IS EXTREMELY LIMITED AT THE MEDICAL CENTER. If there is a convenient alternative to private transportation for you, it is strongly suggested that you use it.
If you must drive, you may attempt to park in the Leavey Center Parking Garage at Level 1 through Entrance 1. Public parking costs $5.00 per hour, or $25.00 per day. The Office of Admissions does not validate parking. There are some time-limited metered parking areas, but parking on most surrounding streets is restricted for residential parking, and you will not have the opportunity during the program to return to your car to “feed” the meter."

Ah thx, brah. Good thing I have 13.25 left on my metro card...

Hello Future Hoyas,
I was a Georgetown undergrad and will be attending Georgetown for my medical education this coming Fall. Georgetown is a wonderful school with a very specific focus on providing for the underserved. If you have any questions about secondaries or interviews, if you get one, I will be more than happy to provide you with all the hints I can! Georgetown is VERY VERY different from other medical schools in terms of what type of person they are looking for so make sure you set yourself apart. I'm a great source as I will be a Double Hoya in four more short years.

Best of luck to you all!

Hey HoyaDoc!

I just scheduled my interview at Georgetown for September 25th! I'm a Canadian applicant and I don't know too much about the city or the school. I do know of their holistic philosophy and a few of the facilities/opportunities they offer, but I would love to ask you a few questions. Is there an email address I can contact you at? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Bernard

I'm going to be in DC area next week for a scientific conference and I have a Thursday afternoon and Friday evening free.

Can anybody recommend places to go to get some feel for the town?

GEOREGETOWN CUPCAKE ^.^

Or anywhere on M Street, really.

Last year I applied to Georgetown and was rejected pre-interview. IIRC, they were one of the first schools to send out rejections, so we were not strung along for months waiting to hear back. I wish other schools took this approach!

DC has a sweet bike rental program called Capital Bikeshare. Website here:

http://www.capitalbikeshare.com/

Honestly, one of my favorite things to do in DC is bike around the monuments/national mall at night (I would do this with a buddy however, or during the day if you must go alone). Also, most of the museums are free (Air and Space Museum is my Favorite). If you like architecture, you might enjoy walking along Massachusetts Avenue NW, where many of the embassies are located. For a birds-eye view of the city (and since the Washington Monument is closed currently, I think), you should check out The Old Post Office, website here (look for info on the free clock tower tours):

http://www.oldpostofficedc.com/

Of course, these are all kinds of "touristy" things to do. For a more authentically "DC" experience, you might take the Metro to Eastern Market, which is right near 8th St. SE, where there are some more modest restaurants and shops frequented by locals (a lot of capitol hill employees go to that area for lunch supposedly). Perhaps you could check this out:

http://www.easternmarket-dc.org/

Finally, for night life, all the "cool kids" go to the Adams-Morgan district haha. Lots of clubs, bars, restaurants, etc. I've been there a couple times, and it is a pretty happening place. Same thing for the area around Dupont Circle (right on the Red Line)...it's got a very vibrant night life scene. I've heard the same for the area around U St. NW, but I've never been there.

Good luck, and have a nice visit!

I was also complete 7/19 but no interview, has anyone who was complete after that received an interview yet? Thanks!

Complete 8/2/12! Hoping for some love from one Catholic school to another. Is Georgetown usually quick with making a decision for interviews? Seems like there are a lot already

No Georgetown probably will be the slowest school you have applied too in terms of decisions (interview, acceptances, wait-lists).

Interview invite. Submitted 7/25 Complete 7/26

Good luck to all!

Interview invite today! Also complete 7/26. Good luck everyone!

Congrats everyone got the II today. I was complete 7/27 so now I'm compulsively checking my email and status page. How did everyone get the notification?

Are we supposed to upload the photo on a word document AFTER we're received an interview invitation?

Thanks! Woke up this morning to an email invitation that was sent at 10am.

do u mind sharing when ur interview date is?

I just registered for October 5th! There were 5 available dates when I checked....between Oct. 2nd and Oct. 9th.

Has anyone gotten a rejection yet? I feel like they skipped my application

Quick question. I sent a message to the email listed for scheduling overnight hosting about two weeks ago, and have yet to get a reply. Anybody gotten a hold of these people yet?

I got my invite via email.

I signed up for the October 2nd date. Does anyone know if it's best to purchase flight tickets now than later? I feel like the sooner I buy them, the cheaper they'll be, but my dad's saying to wait. Not sure what to do..

Don't know where you're flying from, but Southwest has a sale today for flights on select dates and October 2nd is one of them.

http://www.southwest.com/html/promotions/fs-3million-likes.html?int=HOMEHEROFARSAV120803

Sorry, flying in from Atlanta, GA. But I just checked out the site. Either I'm not understanding it, or apparently the promotion doesn't apply cause the prices are already reduced...though I can only seem to get the reduced prices with points after signing up from some account..uhh...

Hrm you're right it doesn't seem to work for Atlanta to DC.. I'd still suggest Southwest. I bought tickets earlier this week and when I found a more convenient time and cheaper flight today because of the deal, I just switched it without any problems. So you can buy tickets now for peace of mind and if it becomes cheaper later on, you can change it and receive a credit for future flights (if you're ok with flight credit instead of refund in your pocket).

Haha no prob. But thank you for that piece of information! Definitely did not know that...I'll talk to my dad about it tomorrow 🙂

Interview! Oct 5 so excited about Georgetown love the Washington DC area

Does this school screen? If so, is it before or after mcat/secondaries are in? Thanks

They dont screen before secondaries. They review your file as a whole once everything is in.
