Interview invite! Thank you Georgetown! Haven't finalized a date yet but I think I'm looking at 10/18. Travel tips anyone?

OOs 3.8c 3.9s 31R

I went to school around DC so I can take a shot at this. Where are you coming from? If you're flying, the easiest would be to fly into DCA (Ronald Reagan), that way you can take the DC metro to just about anywhere in the city, depending on where you get a hotel or student host. The cheapest way to stay is obviously a host because hotels in DC are pretty much all expensive, unless you get one in a sketchy area. I'm big on taking the metro because its cheap, convenient, and you wont get caught up in city traffic. That being said, the closest metro station to GU is either Foggy Bottom or Dupont Circle, which is a helluva walk, so its probably the best to take a cab from either station to the school. Google the metro to find a map if you're unfamiliar with the area. It's pretty simple to get around and a lot less complicated than something like NYC's subway.

If you're driving in, its probably best to get a hotel outside of the city that is close to a metro station. That way you will have free parking at the hotel, can take the metro in and then cab over to Gtown (like I said above), and the hotel will probably be cheaper. I'm all about saving money on the interview trail! 👍 Let me know if you have any more travel questions.

Congrats on the interviews everybody. I'll be there on 10/10

Do you have any advice on hotels inside dc/where to stay in dc? I'm flying in so I'll probably have to stay inside the city.

If you want to stay fairly close to GUSOM, check out the Holiday Inn Washington - Georgetown. I stayed there when I interviewed last year. They have a shuttle service that will drop you off at the University Hospital if you tell the front desk. It's also only about a 15-minute walk to the Med-Dent Building (but I probably wouldn't do that in DC's humidity haha 😳).

Closest metro to Gtown is actually Rosslyn (and it's on the same line as DCA). There are free shuttles from both the Rosslyn metro stop and Dupont Circle stop. So, if you metro in, take the shuttles. You can walk, but you probably won't want to while carrying bags or wearing a suit.

If you really want to save money, contact the student hosting program. They will find you a student to stay with. It's free and you get an inside scoop of the school. They are willing to talk with you and they do not report to admissions.

Fingers crossed they're not totally going in order of complete...

OOS Complete 7/26, 3.83c, 3.87s, 33N - still nothing on my end 🙁

Me too 🙁 Complete 7/27, 3.9+c, 3.9+s, 34Q

This is literally nerve wracking. I have a feeling I didn't write my "why georgetown" essay they way they wanted me to ...

What's the cheapest hotel within a few miles of campus (and GWU)? I'll have to take a cab around as I'm flying in, so I don't mind being a few miles out as long as it's fairly convenient to just take a cab to campus and back. Thanks for all the help!

Anyone going September 5th? We should totally go out and get drinks afterward!

I'm interviewing on the 6th but getting in on the 5th! Am probably going to be stressing like mad and could use a drink if you wanna meet up, drinks are on me if you lemme know how the interview went!

I was complete 7/17 and haven't heard anything. I called and they said they don't issue ejections until sept. so maybe I was already rejected but they just can't tell me yet. Oh well

I got the interview invite today!!! It's my first one and I am SO thrilled. I scheduled for late october.

AMCAS Verified: 7/28, Letters received: 7/31, Secondary Sent: 7/31, complete: 8/3, Invite 8/10

Average for GPA and below average MCAT so fingers crossed!! Best of luck to everyone!!! 😀

Another Interview Invite!!!! First one! Submitted 8/3

How fast do they get back to you after you complete your secondary?
Did they start rejecting people already?

I was complete 7/23. Havent heard anything yet. Similar stats to some of you guys it sounds like (3.8, 35)

I also received an interview invite yesterday! First one. Pretty quick turn around. Here's a timeline:

Secondary Received: 7/6
Secondary Submitted: 8/2
Secondary Complete: 8/3
Interview Invite: 8/10

Stats: 3.8, 33, OOS

Mentioned Cura Personalis in one sentence but it was definitely not the theme of my secondary essay. Hope this helps!

I actually didn't look too outwards from the Georgetown area because I didn't want to worry about getting to campus in the morning and dealing with traffic. However, from what I found, the Holiday Inn @ Georgetown was definitely the cheapest of all the hotels in the area. (DC is not a very cheap area for hotels, anyways...)

worried. complete 8/3 and nothing, plus my stats arent that great either... and i really was excited about this school. would sending a LOI help at all? or should I just wait it out for now?

No but really though! Where are you from? I want to have time to go to a bar after my interview but I think it would mean spending a second night in DC? I am currently frustrated trying to figure out how to get my money's worth in flight arrangements by at least getting a few hours to visit with friends over there.

I probably won't be able to now. I was originally going to take a train in from Philly and stay at a hotel, but now I'm staying at a family friend's thirty minutes out of DC and having my daddy drop me off. I don't think daddy will drop me back off in DC for drinks.

Anyone know how well the host program works? I just emailed them but would like to know if I should still be looking for other friends in the area to stay with

The emailed me back and told me my interview date was early enough that it would be best for me to make other plans

You guys should set up a designated spot at the airport for after-interview drinks 😛 though that might turn into a neurotic breakdown of the day going over every phrase someone mentioned to us and what it could mean hahaha

I was completed Aug 3, did not get an interview (yet!) - anybody else like this?

I was also complete 8/3 with a 36 and 3.91, but still no interview 🙁 It looks like they only extend invitations on Fridays, so Im hoping this Friday is the one for me!

I actually got my invite on a tuesday

I tried skimming back a few pages but didn't see anything pertaining to rejections. How fast do they reject??

Got the II at the end of last week. Completed 7/27, Stats: 42/3.53(mitigating circumstances). Selecting 10/10.

I also went to Georgetown undergraduate (class of 2011). They kind of do love taking undergrads, but it's a huge class so don't sweat it too much. 🙂 That said I'll take every leg-up I can get.

If you have some experience with Catholicism or Jesuits, writing about Cura Personalis can definitely lead to a strong essay. That said, don't just BS an essay trying to appease them. I took a number of classes taught by Jesuits, and actually took an entire course on Jesuit spirituality. I can't comment on how well the members of the admissions committee know Jesuit theology... but I imagine they've read enough essays to distinguish personal experience and genuine interest with it from "I just googled it."

Anyway, since I just spent four years in the area, I figure I'd drop a couple pieces of advice, though I might just be parroting what people have said above: DEFINITELY fly into Reagan National Airport if you can. It is about fifty times more convenient than BWI, and one thousand times for convenient than Dulles. In my experience, it's cheaper as well.

You can take a cab to Georgetown from Reagan for about 20 bucks. You can also take the Blue line to Rosslyn for about 3 dollars and catch a free shuttle. Hotels are EXPENSIVE. I would seriously recommend trying to stay with a student.

Hope to see some of you on October 10th.

Dangit I should've looked this up before I bought my tickets... Luckily Southwest has a great return/exchange policy. Now I get to search all over the internet for the cheapest flight from Chicago to DC again 🙂

Any current georgetown students on SDN doing student hosting? 🙂

Complete 8/9 - 3.8/30Q

Anyone else scheduled for 9/18?

Woah did you just get an II and got an interview date for 9/18? The first options for my II received 8/10 was for mid october

Yeah, I guess they opened up more spots? or someone moved their date

i called georgetown today and they essentially told me over the phone i had been rejected. I asked them if they reviewed my app they said it was sent to the commitee already and that i should hear something in two weeks. sept is in two weeks and is the earliest they can send rejections lol. hopefully i'm wrong but i'm not too optimistic at this point

How do you know September is the earliest they can send out rejections?

sorry...who knows maybe there is still a chance

when were you complete? did they give you any hints as why?

Well I guess I can't be too mad because I got an interview, but it was a little deflating realizing I'd have to wait about 10 weeks for my interview. Am I at a disadvantage interviewing in late October instead of September?

Invited for interview! First invite!

Scheduled for first available date... which was in November... spots must have filled up quick. Still really excited I love Georgetown!
