Anyone who interviewed 9/13 hear yet? Or am I waiting two more weeks...

Secondary submitted 9/26...still nothing.
Called this morning and they told me they had to download my MCAT scores and it was an internal issue.
What the heck! I'm so angry right now 😡😡😡 There have been people who submitted after me and are complete. I probably won't be complete until November, and then that's late.

waitlisted interviewed 9/6
i got an email saying that a decision was made and then checked the same website as where my secondary was available - and there was a new part that said decision status (underneath application status)

boo

Straight rejected 🙁 Pretty bummed, liked the school a lot. Interviewed 9/6

Best of luck to everyone else!

Hey! I interviewed the same day as you - who ar eyou again? and who did you interview with?

Congrats!!!!

Thanks! I'm a reapp who wrote them THREE letters of interest/intent last year while sitting around on CAP until August, so it's been a long time coming. I'm pretty psyched, to say the least 😀 Hope the rest of you hear good news sooner rather than later!

Strait up rejected. I did not like the school at all when I interviewed so that probably showed. Best of luck to all of you who liked it here

well there it goes the litte bit of hope i had left in Gt!

CAPed this morning, after being teased with the email at 7 am my status change finally changed by noon. I haven't decided yet if I am going to write a letter of interest in order to stay in the running... I have been accepted to much more affordable schools that I would be happy to attend (namely, OSU).

+1 on all counts. Congrats to desphil and good luck to the rest of you!

Anyone rescheduling interviews for this week? Or know how to.

Says on their website to shoot them an email. I'm still interviewing on Thursday, even though I had to reschedule my flight to today rather than Tuesday

Accepted as well. Interviewed on 8/29.

what does the student led tour of georgetown consist of? do they just show you the school or do the show you any of the hospitals? thanks.

Our group strolled briefly through the hospital, but it wasn't a particularly thorough tour. We spent most of our time on the tour walking seeing various parts of the medical school building, including the lecture hall(s), study areas, etc. To be honest, I don't really remember a lot from the tour. As I'm sure you've seen others mention on this thread, the facilities are fine, but they aren't particularly memorable compared to some schools with brand new buildings. Doesn't diminish my hope that Georgetown accepts me though!!!! 🙂

All we saw on the tour was a couple of classrooms, the anatomy lab, but no hospitals. I liked the school, but I really felt that the tour was quite disorganized.

thanks for your response.

Has anyone interviewed at both GWU and Georgetown. I know georgetown is considered a better school but did anyone like one over the other? thanks.

I too am curious to know the thoughts of others on this. I interviewed at both, and I agree, it is a close call in many ways. Georgetown certainly has the upper hand in terms of name recognition/prestige, at least in the eyes of the layperson. It is also ranked marginally higher in the US News rankings. I personally find it's curriculum better than GWU's, which is very time-consuming and long overdue for a major overhaul, which is coming in the next year or two. Georgetown also has some unique curricular opportunities like the mind-body-medicine course and the aforementioned health justice scholars' track.

Now, that said, GWU has a slightly better physical location (in my opinion), being right on top of Foggy Bottom metro stop and in the heart of DC. Georgetown is kind of isolated, and kind of far from any metro stops, which makes getting to the rest of the city a bit inconvenient (even with the presence of the GUTS buses). GWU also has the option for an MPH, which Georgetown does not offer. Finally, GWU has the "track program" which is appealing. Georgetown offers a sort of "community health" track, but I don't think there are as many track "options" to choose from as there are at GWU, where you have community health, policy, emergency management, medical humanities, etc...

At the end of the day, assuming I am accepted to both, it will probably come down to a financial decision. If I can get a good scholarship from either program, it will become a heavy favorite. However, if both schools will cost me roughly the same amount, I'm more inclined to chose Georgetown because (in no particular order):

1.) Cura personalis approach to patient care.

2.) Unique curricular opportunities (like mind-body-medicine and the health justice scholars' track).

3.) I'm not particularly interested in GWU's MPH program (if you are interested in MPH, i strongly suggest you choose GWU over Georgetown).

4.) Marginally higher prestige in medical community, significantly higher layperson prestige.

5.) Thanks to Georgetown's undergrad program and law school, there will be opportunities to attend talks by prominent speakers (a small factor to consider).

Finally, I should mention that I believe medical students are pretty much the same no matter where you go. However, those of you inclined to "read the tea leaves" of the impressions you got from interviews might find important differences between the two schools, especially in light of some of the comments made on this thread about Georgetown's "competitive" nature. My own personal opinion is that there isn't a lot of difference between students at GWU and Georgetown, but you'll have to come to your own conclusions.

The tour is a bit disorganized. We don't have a ton of time for all the things they want us to talk about. I'm not sure seeing the hospital is really that important though. I mean, it's cool to be walking around there, but I don't think it's really that important. This is especially true at Georgetown where the facilities aren't very shiny.

I got into both, and I chose Georgetown.

I actually came back to DC and visited both again before my final decision. You can do the formal second look day (I couldn't make it) or you can contact the school and they will set up a day for you just to meet with and chill with a student for a few hours (I did that at both schools).

I liked GW a lot. The location is better and the main hospital is much nicer. I really liked the students there too. The student body seemed a bit more diverse and relaxed than Georgetown did. I did not like the curriculum, however. And when I had my student interview, she said that she didn't like the fact that they were in class so much during the day. That really didn't impress me. I also was influenced a little by the brand name of Georgetown too. And when I was interviewing, the whole probation thing was a bit fresher for GW. In the end, that didn't really cause any problems nor was it a huge issue. And especially now, I wouldn't worry about that at all.

While the students at GW did seem a bit more diverse (more non-science people), I found the Georgetown people very friendly and welcoming too. It did have a different vibe though. I have said it before, and I will reiterate, the class isn't overly competitive (not full of gunners) but people do want to do well, and many people are more interested in competitive specialities. I'm very happy with my class, and I think it is a friendly, collaborative class. But maybe not as much as GW would have been (can't really say for sure).

I chose Georgetown mostly for the curriculum. I think that it is really great, and all the 3rd, 4th years, and graduates I have talked to have said how helpful it is for preparing for step 1 and for preparing for residency. Despite the less than stellar facilities, the training is top notch. We also get to do rotations at hospitals beyond Georgetown (Medstar which owns the hospital has nine others so there are a mix of rural/suburban and urban trauma centers). You have so many opportunities here, and all the docs we see are so excited to be at Georgetown and teach. People seem very proud to be Hoyas (the majority of our professors and preceptors are Georgetown grads, people seem to stick around which I think is a good sign).

I don't think you can really go wrong between the two schools. Georgetown just felt right for me over GW, and the better curriculum really sealed the deal..

Barcu (or any other Georgetown students), did you have cheaper schools to consider? If so, what pushed you to go to Georgetown? Personally, I am comparing Wake Forest and GW (and hopefully Georgetown), and while I'd prefer Georgetown, it would end up being a LOT more expensive (in the neighborhood of ~$100,000 more) thanks to NC forgivable loans, which i could obtain at Wake Forest but NOT GW or Georgetown.

Also, are you planning to go into a well-compensated specialty?

This was not a consideration for me. I'm military, so I can't help you there.

I did get into cheaper schools too, and I would have considered them a lot more had I not gotten the scholarship. Hard to say what I would have done, but I would have had a hard time saying no to my state school.

my file was completed on 10/2, anyone have any idea when i might be hearing back about an interview??

does georgetown or gw give better grants and financial aid. i read that gw has generous financial aid but they are also listed as one of the most expensive schools.

Barcu, it may have been stated earlier in the thread, but how much of your class would you say came off the waitlist?

Is there anyone else that interviewed in Auguest that still has no decision? Like not even a word..

Waitlisted this morning! Going to withdraw as I was not in love with this school anyway, and I think this came through in the interviews! Waitlisted at both schools that I was iffy about and accepted at the one school I loved.

Anyone have any input about Gtown compared to the other Jesuit schools (SLU, Creighton, Loyola) ??

Would you please let us know when you interviewed

Waitlisted today, interviewed 9/18. I remember them saying that a significant proportion of applicants are waitlisted and that you won't be reconsidered unless you send in a LOI. Can anyone verify this?

I'm interviewing 1/23/13 (which seemed REALLY far off for something offered two weeks ago). Is anyone else interviewing in January? For those who have interviewed, I know you've answered this already but how do the students handle the financial situation?

Ms. Sullivan told us that they sort the waitlist into two pools; those applicants who send LOIs, and those who don't. For the most part, the first pool (the pool that sends LOIs) is the only pool from which waitlisted applicants are ultimately accepted.

Aaaaaaand waitlisted. Just found out by checking my status; I did not receive an email. Interviewed on 9/14.

EDIT: I received an email about an hour after posting this message.
