Just received my first acceptance after interviewing on Jan. 7. SO EXCITED!!!

I got an interview at Meharry at the end of Feb. I love what the school stands for and I like how it focuses its research on mending healthcare disparities - the school truly has the same goals as I do and therefore I would love to be there. I am a bit nervous though because on MSAR it says that only 7 people in the class have a caucasian/european background - TN is a far distance for me to travel if I am likely going to be denied. I mean I am going to do it because I would love to go there. Does anyone know how many caucasian people apply there? I mean it should mean something that I have been granted an interview. Any general tips on the interview process from those of you who have been interviewed already would be a great help too. All the best to everyone 🙂

My first acceptance!!!! So excited to finally have an acceptance. I interviewed on Dec 17th and am Caucasian for the person who asked about it.

Who is going to Meharry for sure?!?!

As of right now, this is my top choice. I'm from TN and live just minutes away from the school so this would be just perfect for me. Also, has anyone started a fb group? If not, I think it'd be really helpful to get that going. I'm currently doing a post-bacc program where we take classes with med students and having a group really helps

If you start it, they will join...

Don't know why, but it set up the group in my undergrad's "Groups" setting and only lets people from there see it. It goes straight to that setting when I try to set up a new group and I'm not sure how to change that. I went ahead and deleted that group if someone else wants to try and set one up

Got accepted on Friday!! this is my first acceptance...so excited!!!!!!

What's the best way to get in touch with the admissions office? I've tried calling in to their office number but keep getting voicemail & I haven't gotten a reply to the e-mail I sent either. Anyone have suggestions??

I have an interview invite for April 1st!! excited!!. I am wondering if I can try to change my date to a closer one... Really want to do it NOW! lol

If you haven't gotten an email by now does that mean you were rejected?

Anyone got an email for post bac consideration?

yup, i did. we don't have to reply to that email if we do want to be considered.. right?

also, does anybody know how much they favor their post bac students for readmission into the medical school?

My interview date for Meharry is on march 11. Who else is interviewing on that day?

waitlisted👎, interviewed 1/14....can you send updates? or do I just wait for the list to move?

Any one else interviewing Feb 25th in the AM? If so...lemme know 🙂

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for those that interview at Meharry?

Awesome!! My flight to Nashville will be a little before noon on Sunday (Lol that was the best deal I got when I bought my ticket). So did you also book the Millennium Maxwell House?

Lol I haven't booked my flight there yet but I'm really excited...my friend just interview there and the only worrisome thing is the cost

shoot sorry my post got deleted, but I had a quick question about the schools rankings. I personally love the school, campus, faculty, and schools mission. However I mentioned to one of the docs i work with i was applying to meharry and he kinda had some negative things to say about the schools rankings and called it a lower tier medical school. I really didnt have any research or wisdom to discuss this topic with him and havent been able to find much info on the internet. Does anyone have any wisdom on this topic about the schools rankings..and even if these rankings are significant at all when it comes to quality of education and placement in residenceis

btw im not trying to bash this school..i for one loved the school but I was kinda hoping someone could shed more light on this topic for me as I have to admit I havent been able to find too much credible information about rankings or even how significant rankings are.

havent heard from this school yet!!! and I have been complete since early november....i think i have been silently rejected.

Does anyone know when Meharry's class is usually full by?

Hello everyone. I'm on pins and needles waiting to hear from Meharry. I submitted my secondary app January 15th, and I haven't heard anything back from the school. I received the confirmation of receipt email, and I know that it said it can take up to 6 weeks for a response... But I'm scared.. Have I been silently rejected??

I don't know what Meharry's policy is concerning rejections - if they are "silent" or if they contact you. Not much time is passed, but may I ask why you waited so long to submit the secondary? Most schools which do "rolling" admissions have just about filled their interview spots by now. I am not saying that Meharry has, but at this point in the game, statistically, the chance of getting an interview drop of dramatically. Some schools, however, such as Temple, as an example, interview for a couple of months yet.

The bottom line is that you can of course inquire about your status, but all you can do is wait it out now and see. The waiting game sucks - we are all in the same boat - but I wish you the best going forward.

I'm not sure if everyone else did an early application or what, but I didn't submit my AMCAS application until about Nov.. And I waited so late to submit due to financial reasons. When I received Meharry's email to complete the secondary app it said due Jan. 15th, so that's when I submitted it. Maybe a day or two before.

If you haven't received an email of completion you haven't been rejected. Stay positive, considering that you are still within your 6 week time frame for processing. Once you're complete, I reckon, it shouldn't be too long afterwards for you to find out if you'll be invited for an interview. If it helps, I submitted my secondary on Jan 14th, (not by my choosing), and received an email stating that I was complete after 10 PM (Pacific) on Jan 25th. I received an email for interview on Jan 29th.

That made me feel a little better. Everyone keeps telling me to be patient and keep hope because 9/10 I haven't been rejected...

Hi! I'm a med student at Meharry, and while I can't speak about the numbers of people of different racial/ethnic backgrounds that apply to Meharry per year, I can tell you that you would be surprised at the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity in the classes. The low numbers that you speak of are probably more of a reflection of how many people of Caucasian/European descent apply to Meharry and decide to matriculate, rather than how many don't get in. That being said, you shouldn't worry about getting rejected on the basis of your race/ethnicity. They are more concerned about whether you would be a good fit based on their mission, and if you appear genuine in your desire to work with the medically underserved. PM with any questions you may have!

Hi docapp201213! I'm a first year med @ Meharry and wanted to shed some light on your question, which is a great question! A lot of people ask about rankings, especially in relation to the US News rankings of medical schools that most people are familiar with here :http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools.

The key thing to consider is methodology. Rankings are based on information collected from the schools, peer rankings by deans and residency directors in different categories about their evaluation of the strength of different programs, NIH funding, faculty research, etc.

Is there value to these surveys? Sure. Do they tell the whole story? Absolutely not. For example, research intensive schools receiving NIH R01 researching funding will always score high in the area of research, while schools like Meharry, which has a primary care focus, and may not have beacoup $$ coming in in the form of R01 grants, may rank high in other areas, such as social mission (http://annals.org/article.aspx?articleid=745836). Schools may be unranked because 1) US News did not have enough information about them in the different categories to include them on the survey, and/or 2) survey respondents did not know enough about the schools to provide an accurate evaluation. (This is all speculation on my part, since I have no assess to the survey, nor empirical evidence or statistical tests to validate my hypotheses lol).

Medical education is standardized across the nation, and we are all learning the same thing because we are all going to take the same licensing exams. Furthermore, Meharry students perform just as well as students across the nation on our subject board and licensing exams. So, no matter where you get your education, as long as the school is LCME accredited, and you pass your classes and exams, you will get your MD degree! Oh, and, you'll probably end up in residency with a handful of people who went to those highly ranked institutions, although your patients will care less about that and more about your competency and compassion as a physician 🙂 I wish you the best, and let me know if you have any other questions!

At this point, would an interview be for a spot on the wait-list or is there still hope for immediate acceptance?

I am hoping its for direct entrance because I have an interview in about two weeks. I would tend to believe that most schools leave some spots for the whole cycle...I hope someone can give us both a definitive answer though.
