I wasn't hugely keen on Temple at first, but writing the secondary made me realize that I'm actually rather excited about this school. Hope they respond positively. :xf:
Same. Initially I wasn't too excited about Temple, but they put a ton of info about their school and what they're about on the website. It was nice to see them put actual videos on the website. The school seems to be very good at advertising itself. By the time I finished the secondary, my "why Temple" essay I think ended up being one of the longer ones, if not, it was definitely easier to answer.

Looks like a fantastic program, hope to hear back from them with good news.

I am still sitting with the Verified status. I wish it would say complete and waiting to be reviewed or something. I just want to make sure they know everything is turned in. I guess I will just have to wait in the verified limbo.

I've been sitting at verified too. They're probably just clogged up and need an actual person to change the status, because they acknowledge having received my app and my letters.

Just wanted to weigh in here, it really is a fantastic program. I interviewed there last year (wasn't accepted though obviously so I'm applying again, bummer) and I was impressed with everything I saw. The building itself is brand spankin' new with plenty of study rooms/space, extremely vented anatomy lab with lots of technology, simulation center, etc. The students who gave the tour were incredibly friendly, down to earth, and clearly very happy to be there. The only faculty member I met was my interviewer, but she was very impressive and knowledgeable and the students all agreed that the faculty is top notch. Plenty of opportunities for research too if thats your thing. Sure the school is located in North Philly, but it means great clinical experience during rotations and all of the students live in nicer areas close by. I hope they give me another chance this year. And good luck to you guys :xf:

how long did it take you guys to get your secondary? I was verified last Monday and Temple and Drexel are the only secondaries that I have yet to receive?

Thanks

I was verified on 6/21 and got my secondary on 7/2 so a little over a week.

ugh.. i kept on getting a 'dedicated security error: authentication process failed or the page is not accessible to you.' whenever I try to pay. Anyone getting the error? I was on firefox and had my popup blocker disabled. 🙁

Hello folks!

I am trying to figure out if I screwed up with this school already. They are very specific about science letters being from biology, physics, & chemistry, and one of my two science letters is actually from a calc teacher. It's a REALLY strong letter, though. My bio class was huge and the letter would probably have been boring. Did I fail at applying to Temple already or is there some flexibility?
Thank you.

I ran into that same issue when I was using safari. I switched to Firefox and didn't run into any problems. I'd suggest trying to access the website in another browser, if you have one available.

hey when they say letters of rec from a biology, chem, physics. Do they use AMCAS classifications for those?

Still waitin' :corny:

I still haven't submitted my secondary since I was a little confused about the prerequisite requirements. Do you guys think it's too late to submit if I submit sometime this week? 🙁

Given that Temple still hasn't sent out interview invites, I think you would be fine.

i had the same problem but they won't hold that against you (too much). they obviously would prefer a strong letter from a bio/phys/chem prof, but another science/technical field (ie calc/math) would work well if it's strong too. i called them to ask about this and they're not as strict as some other schools - they said they'll review the app based on what's there, and if the letter speaks to your abilities in the scences, then it will suffice. they did make clear that they won't accept your app if you have letters from humanities profs instead of any science-like prof, but hopefully that's not the case for you

I honestly cannot find any decent info on Temple's website to answer the 'why this school' question. I know Temple has an abundance of research opportunities so I am going to mention that, but I can't find anything else to really talk about :-/

why did you apply? if it was only for the purpose of applying to a lot of schools to increase your chances, then id say just google search a bunch and figure out things about the school that might interest you. if it was for a specific reason (such as research, location, clinical clerkship experiences, etc.) then id even focus on that one thing for the essay and show your understanding/enthusiasm for the unique type of research, location, clinical exp, etc. that draws you to temple. you don't need to have tons of reasons - one reason that you've thought about thoroughly that no other school offers will be much stronger than just listing a bunch of things without going into much detail

Just BSed my way through 'why this school' for this secondary. I usually look through the website and find 2-3 good things that sound like they gel with my interests. I was looking through the Temple website for like a solid hour and didn't find one single unique thing about the school. Oh well, hopefully my good primary will be enough to make up for it.

Edit: Temple wasn't the only school I had to do this for. I'm sure it's a fantastic school, they just don't sell themselves very well.

So I did research at the School of Pharmacy that is right down the street from TUSM, do you guys think it would be a bad idea to mention that i'd like to continue my research there as a medical student?

Has anyone called the admissions office about the max number of letters?

First IIl! So excited. Submitted 7/6, not sure when complete.

Interview invite! Submitted 7/2.

sigh, I really wish a philly school or two would show me some love, I want to come HOME for med school!

Has anyone scheduled an interview and gotten a confirmation? I clicked on a time and then "schedule interview", but I still get the calendar with times with no signs of confirmation.

I received an email confirmation immediately after scheduling.

apparently my application had a problem with it so I haven't been complete for the past week. All my status says is application has an error please contact office. Except they also never told me after I submitted so i just figured it out today =(
Anyone else experience this?

Temple's response to my in the area email is "we'll let you know if we can accommodate you"

I'm scheduled on Friday 9/28 at Drexel and if I don't get an interview that week at jefferson or temple I'm going to fly in on Thursday.. Not sure how long I should wait to hear back before I book my flight...

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I've got one at Jefferson october 3rd and would like to only make the Philly trip once I possible. I figure I will call them mknday

Do you guys think it's okay to wait to schedule an interview until more dates open up? Or are the dates until 9/27 the only ones open to us?

Nah, I think if you wait, some might open up as others close. That is what happened in one of my other school's scheduler.

Interview invite on Friday!!!

Has anyone missing a prerequisite ever received an interview invite? I only have one missing prerequisite (2nd semester of physics lab, which I am not taking until spring 2013), but the admissions website said that any applications missing prerequisites will be put on hold. 🙁

II on Friday as well. Secondary submitted on July 5. OOS, 3.8, 33O.

II on Friday.

Does anyone know if the SEPTA subway runs from the airport directly to campus?

It's not a subway, but the SEPTA regional rail runs directly from the airport to campus.

oh yes you are right, its a train. Looks like that is the easiest way to get to and from the airport, also the cheapest.

The regional rail line will NOT take you to the health science campus. It will take you to MAIN campus, which is almost 2 miles farther south on Broad Street. I would suggest taking the Airport regional rail line to center city (I think the transfer is at Suburban Station) then getting on the Broad Street Subway line there. You can take it to Allegheny. Erie is a little bit closer to the MERB, but the campus security people will tell you to go to Allegheny.
