This. Tulane is notoriously slow in this whole process. Last year I was not complete until a month after I submitted my secondary and received my II two months after that. Just be patient, it doesn't mean anything other than they have a lot of applicants and they like to take their time with them. It's just the way life is in New Orleans.

Also, they really love students who aren't coming straight out of undergrad with a strong dedication to community service. And FWIW, they told us our incoming class had the highest MCAT average of any class at 33 this year.

This is why I think I got an II. I'm in a graduate program, have TONS of community service (4-5 years worth in medical and non-medical areas), and teach. I'm so excited for this interview!
 
Does Tulane screen before sending out secondary apps? I received secondaries from all the other schools I applied to within a week but I've heard nothing from Tulane

They don't screen, and I got my secondary within a week of verification. But that was back in July. Did you just get verified? They might be backed up at this point, plus I would imagine there's no one in the office right now due to the hurricane. That could be what's delaying you. I would tell you to call, but you'll have to wait until they get the power back on!

Good point. It's been a week since I got verified also and surprised I didn't receive a secondary from them yet.
 
just wondering, but what are some things I can do to increase my chances of getting an interview from Tulane? Unfortunately, I have a 9 in verbal and would like to make sure I clearly express that Tulane is my top choice.

I know that Tulane is crazy receptive to special masters programs especially their own, Georgetown's and Mississippi college because these programs are so intensive. Last year of the 6 people in my program that applied to Tulane ALL were interviewed and two were accepted ( one went to LSU ) and the rest were waitlisted and withdrew after gaining other acceptances. This is why I have decided to add Tulane even though I am a little behind, as soon as I get the money to do so. If your stats are less then perfect and you really want to go to this school and you get waitlisted this cycle, go to Tulane's special masters program, if you don't get waitlisted and you reallly really want to go to Tulane consider MC or Georgetown's SMPs. They have some serious pull with Tulane. Just something to keep in mind if this cycle doesn't workout.

Thanks, but unfortunately, this is the last cycle I can apply. What are some strategies for sending letters of interest/intent? And generally, do medical schools put a lot of weight on what I do with my time during this gap year? I graduated last spring and don't have a job yet. So far I've been doing a bit a research as well as clinical volunteering. However, I'd like some paid employment and chances that it will be related to health care is pretty low.

Yikes! I was complete 7/27, haven't heard a peep. Now I'm feeling hopeful--trying not to get too optimistic.
 
I still can't figure out how to check my status at Tulane. Is it all email? When I go to the log-in page it just says "Thanks for registering!" I don't even know if I am complete.

I don't think they have a status page. I received an email from the office when I was complete. That's all that they provide, as far as I know.

Just got the rejection email. OOS 3.6/33 complete 8/9
 
Interview invite just now! Monday, Oct. 8...anyone else going to be there that day? So excited!!! 😀

There's a link in the document that is attached in the ADDENDUM TO INTERVIEW INVITATION email. Through the link, you can submit your information to their google doc and then eventually a student will contact you (I think it took a week or so for a student to get back to me).

How long did it take for you to receive the ADDENDUM TO INTERVIEW INVITATION email?

Hmm I got an II on 9/7 but I still haven't received the addendum--and I confirmed interview right after I got the first email...

Strange, I got the addendum email on the same day, shortly after getting the initial invitation email. Maybe if you email Ms. Vargas asking about student hosting, she will send the addendum email (which contains that info).

I actually think you might of be able to check. Just wait for emails? I am thinking of calling next week to see if I'm even complete.

Hey Acoustica, I got an II on the same day and I have not received the ADDENDUM email either (I like how Tulane's emails come in all caps....it makes me even more EXCITED!😀 haha). I am thinking maybe because I got the II late on Friday afternoon that they just haven't had a chance to send the addendum yet. Let me know if you find out otherwise though...

Also, does anyone know how many people per interview group?
 
Just got email saying I'm complete and under review. For others who got this email, what is the delay between this e-mail and getting a decision?
 
Complete 7/17, still haven't been rejected. What's going on here tulane....
 
If you read last year's forum, it's likely that you're going to get an interview invite if they've past your completion date for rejections. They don't give out official interview invites until 30 days before the interview so that's why you're feeling like you're in the dark-- I couldn't take it and ended up calling about my status last year haha. And don't worry too much about the student hosting situation, we got an e-mail a few weeks ago to sign up for hosting so know that it is being set up and out there.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you're saying. Do they give you a time limit for returning the secondary and if so is that the "completion date for rejections" your'e referring to?
