BOOOO. I fear that will be my fate as well (I kind of messed up on my faculty interview).

For anybody who interviewed on Nov. 5th, do you remember what day they said a decision would be given?

well, they said they definitely review the whole application post-interview, so hopefully it will be okay! My faculty interviewer was actually given the wrong applicant's materials, so he didn't have any idea about my app when I showed up. We ended up having a "closed file" type interview...I don't know if that made a huge difference in being alternate listed...it would suck if that ends up being what holds me back here.

But hey! only 1/3 gets accepted outright right? still holding onto hope since UCI is my top choice right now! hang in there!

They tell you about 6 weeks at the interview (I interviewed end of October) but it ends up being about 4. With holidays that could delay things a bit

Complete mid-August and no secondary. Is this a silent rejection?

I hate to hurt your hope but most likely yes it is. I waited for 4 months pre-secondary with no messages from them until I finally got a rejection. Very sad : (
But they may just be behind this year because of the record
Breaking year of applications. So it's not over til it's over but don't get ur hopes too high.

If you haven't receive a secondary or interview yet, don't give up hope. I have people in my class who didn't interview until March/April and are here so it's not over until it's over. Also, despite the mandatory attendance policy, my classmates and I are still glad to be here and our experience has been enjoyable. Plus, it's 80% attendance, so you can miss classes from time to time, which plenty of us do

Has anyone who interviewed in early November received a status update yet? I remember they said "after Thanksgiving". Any other info would be appreciated, thanks! 👍

II received this Saturday! Sooo excited!! IS complete 9/12. The only available interview date is in mid-March. I hope they still have spots left at that time :xf:

I posted this question in the Keck thread as well but I want to hear from this side--

Keck (USC) vs Irvine. I'm OOS so the tuition difference is not a huge factor for me. So aside from that, what would make you choose one or the other?

rejecteddd on saturday. good luck to the rest of you!

First of congrats! Second - I think that you are considered IS after 1 year so I think that the cost will be different for the last 3 years.

Good luck!:luck:

I always thought it was difficult to gain CA in-state status through education purposes. Like next-to-impossible difficult. I could be very wrong though!

Rejected last night, post-secondary (submitted 8/29). Kinda funny, I had actually forgotten I applied here, so it didn't sting too bad. Seriously can't wait for all this to be over.

The cities of each school are polar opposites. Do you want to live in a big city (USC) or in a small suburb (UCI)? I think that's the biggest difference. UCI has a better surrounding area (beaches, Disneyland) whereas USC has better surrounding clinical sites and a more diverse patient population. But honestly, I think it still comes down to the city. They really are completely different. Good luck

rejected just now (post-secondary). Submitted on 11/29. It took them 3 days to reject me so I guess my application is really bad...

GPA 4.00, 33< MCAT < 37. Out of state.

First rejection. Hurts so bad...

Do you guys think I should email them and ask them what is wrong with my application?

You're OOS, so I'm almost positive that is why you got a quick rejection.

Thanks for your input. I just thought if they had screened my primary and sent me the secondary app, they would had gotten over my residency issue. Maybe not...

Maybe they just didn't like your responses? I know it's easy to write it off as you being OOS and what not, but sometimes I think people need to come to grips with the possibility that a school (not you and not just UCI) either doesn't like your app or didn't like your essays.

Ah well, good luck to you though. I doubt many schools give feedback for pre-interview rejections, though I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to try 👍

Hopefully it goes better with your other schools!

I guess that's true. Good point.

To Fivo and Cbas07: Thank you for your advice. I will email them and ask for feedback. You're right. They can not reject me the second time 🙂

Good luck everyone!

There is no residency issue. Although it's a state school, it doesn't show institutionally preference for in-state applicants. The only reason why the majority of the matriculating class are in-state residents is the fact that for every 5 in-state applicants, there is only 1 OOS applicant. MSAR reflects a slight skewing, but that's arguably anomalous. This is the policy across the UCs.

You should definitely call Irvine. If it's any consolation, I was rejected 3 weeks after submitting my secondary. I rushed my secondary (late, late applicant) and the quality of the essays showed it.

Good luck!

My bad. I did not even know that 😕 Thanks for your explanation.

I also rushed my application but I actually recycled my essays (got my II at UTSW, Stanford and UTMB). I emailed them already.

Good luck to you also!

Anyone that has interviewed have any specific or nonspecific advice for interview day/questions asked, etc?

Did anyone get an interview without taking statistics or mentioning that they would take statistics?

I'm oos, with an "under review" status since 8/24. Is it time to go ahead and cross this school off my list?

Irvine doesn't seem to do silent rejections so if you're still under review then you're still in the running. At least thats what I like to tell myself

Just got the Prime-LC interview invitation. So stoked!

Did you guys receive the invite for Prime LC after the interview invite? I received the invite to interview, but I have not heard from Prime LC :/

Go to the dinner the night before, the pizza is awesome! As for the interview day, it's very laid back and conversational. Good luck!

thanks! looking forward to pizza and laid- back conversation 🙂

Got the call! This has always been my #1 school. Couldn't be happier. Good luck to everybody else.

Just got the call too! 😀
Accepted into the MD program. Also, applied to the PRIME-LC program, they're forwarding the file and said I might hear by Christmas. Such a relief! Good luck to everyone out there still waiting.

Complete 8/3
Interview Invite 9/9
Interviewed 11/5

I'm a PRIME applicant as well! I hope we're not competing for only one spot 🙂 And congratulations!

oh, then I've met you!
Interviewed the same day. Good to talk to you again! And we're not competing IMO. If it doesn't (significantly) increase your chances by eliminating one 'competitor', it's no longer a competition.

As such, best of luck to you, and I mean it. Would be something if we both end up there. And entirely possible too. 🙂

Yeah, my competition remark probably seemed a little harsh; I was in no way serious. And I'm really hoping we're both able to end up there. I loved Irvine, and especially the PRIME program.

Congrats! Do you think you will withdraw from your other acceptances?

I got accepted too! interviewed 11/5 as well. sooo thankful. GL to everyone else!

I'm not sure yet where I'll end up. I have a family, so that's going to be a major factor on where we end up living.

I just got an II for 4/1. Assuming this is not some April Fool's joke, do I have a realistic chance or am I just interviewing for the waitlist? Thanks for any advice.

II for me too! Complete 11/27, IS.

My interview is in April as well, but it seems like they accept a lot of people off of the waitlist...
