Silly question, but - what does one wear to a second-look event? I imagine it's somewhat casual but I am still sort of at a loss, especially since us wait-listers are still trying to impress them!

When in doubt, business casual. I'd go with that even if the dress code was "casual," but that's just me.

A couple questions though: those who have already been accepted, when did you receive the invite to the revisit (I got mine a few days ago)? And are there any people on the alternate list who did NOT get invited? The wording was a bit funny...

I'm just really shocked to have heard back already, makes me feel like I would have been straight rejected if Irvine did rejections. Sad face!!! [But obviously I'm going to try and get in on some o' that waitlist movement 🙂]

I'm wondering if my status as an OOS applicant has any negative bearing on my chances of getting pulled off the alternate list.

they did mention on interview day that the list isn't a typical numerated "list"--as for reviewing the list, I've asked and have been told many times that they don't review the alternate list until or after mid May (I'm assuming May 15th..) On my interview day someone also tried to ask about OOS status--they made it sound like once you got to the interview stage, OOS status has no bearing and that you'd be evaluated the same.

I'm hoping that the rumors are true that UCI has lots of waitlist movement...

Thanks, me too! Looking back at previous years on SDN isn't super encouraging, but I guess it's hard to know how representative that is.

yeah SDN in years past seems sad--but every student I talked to on interview day made it seem like a chunk of ppl come from the alternate list!

I do remember them saying though they don't formally 'rank' alternate listers, they do place them in groups of similar 'points' that they've assigned to each applicant--emphasizing that a few points difference won't distinguish those w/in a group. correct me if im wrong!

A little, I think. I know two people who got Dean's Merit Scholarships and but from what I heard there are only a couple of these.(and they are not full tuition or even 50%)

Yeah, although comparing the waitlist movement to previous years can help to give you an idea of the degree of movement, every year is different. That being said I think a lot of people are waiting till sometime in May to make decisions which means lots of domino effects.

I think Tots covered this perfectly. There is apparently a small amount and you find out with your acceptance.

according to the confirmation email I was sent, we will be parking at lot 83, and then there will be signs directing us to the meeting area.

Does anyone know why only certain wait-listed candidates are invited to "Second Visit"? Is it based on Ranking/Tier standing? Or is it based on location/out of state status/etc to promote diversity?

it was good! 🙂 met a lot of potential students--everyone seems awesome. we also got a more in-depth look at the ultrasound, simulation center, oh and the medical center too. the faculty and program here seems really supportive

food was pretty nice too, which is always a plus!

I remember reading in the Stanford thread that they told people at second look that they overaccepted and there probably wouldn't much waitlist activity Wondering if other schools (Irvine, obvi) also comment on the waitlist at second look / revisit?? It's ok if it's bad news, I can take it 😱

no worries! It's a wonderful distraction from work -.-

yeah I came away feeling pretty good about revisit day. the M1/2's were all optimistic, and the faculty/staff seemed to be the reasonable type not to just invite people to a revisit day and play games with us. The day was very much oriented to be a celebration of getting accepted to UCI--it was a little weird at first, but like you said, I'm hoping this means good news!
