Placed on "hold" for interview. IS, complete 7/30. At least it wasn't a rejection, but won't be re-reviewed until February.

I got put on hold as well today!
Oos, completed late August(due to my school's extremely delayed hcec letters). I'm so disappointed 🙁 does put on hold mean I'm not getting in?

Same here. Placed on hold. Complete 9/8. Bumskies... 🙁

Dang, tons of people got placed on hold today, thank God I avoided this wave but being complete at the end of september!

Worried that if I'm not being placed on hold a rejection is on the way. :/

Interview invite! Complete Sept. 4th. IS, 35S, >3.6. So so so excited about this school.

tagging for future reference. complete mid august, no word yet...

Thanks! It does look like there's a bus that goes from the Solano Beach Amtrak station to campus. Too bad getting to the airport is so hard haha

I went to undergrad at UCSD. If you want to get to campus from the Solana Beach station, you need to take the 101 bus (it's not the one on the same side of the street as the train - have to cross the street) to campus. That'll drop you off right on campus in front of the med school building. I don't know of people that take the train downtown because UCSD is in la jolla. Make sure to get off at Solana Beach.

I probably can't tell you too many ways to get to the airport but you can probably find a bus that goes down there. We have a pretty good bus system down here in SD!

placed on hold, the posts about being put on hold is equivalent to a rejection is a bit disheartening, but oh well, I'm just going to push UCSD to the back of my mind till next year.

Sorry to hear that 🙁 There's always hope though. When were you complete?

How many acceptances do you think are going to come out on October 16th? Did Brian ever tell anyone during the interview day? God I am getting so anxious, definitely one of my top choices.

First take the 992 or 923 into downtown from the airport then take the 30 or 150 to campus.

Alternatively, take a taxi to Hillcrest and then take the UCSD Shuttle, but this probably won't fly without a student ID.

From the way Brian explained things, I don't think they have a predetermined number. If they liked you, you will get an acceptance.

anyone know if ucsd will be sending out anymore secondaries? verified in the middle of september and haven't heard back while others i know verified later have...

also, if you don't receive a secondary now, do you at least get a "hold" email/status update or are we stuck just wondering?

paranoid post? perhaps 🙂

The UCSD Hillcrest shuttle never checks for ID. Look semi-professional and the driver won't even blink.

Does anyone know anything about the Clinical Research program? I like the idea of doing a year off to work in clinical research and the classes sound like they'd be good, but I'm trying to balance the value of writing that essay versus just submitting my secondary today.

just a note for transportation from the airport. I believe prime time shuttle does a 20$ special for UCSD students. they don't actually check and you just tell them you're from UCSD. Otherwise its about 22 dollars to the UTC area. If you split a cab with another person its like 14$ or something.

and to add to the thread I'm still waiting to hear back from UCSD. app completed 8/26

I've known people who received secondaries even in Nov!

The purpose of the essay is to voice your interest in pursuing it. At my interview, they didn't even bring it up. However, I have a feeling it went a long way in getting me an interview. If you can write it well I would highly recommend doing it. Writing the essay does NOT lock you into doing the masters and the interview process is no different if you do it (the interviews are different for the prime MMI).

Thanks to all who offered advice on transit between the train station/airport and campus! I'm going to try to do this thing without a car 😀

Is it worth sending a letter of interest before an interview invite or status change? I really don't want to be put on hold since I love this school!

Would like to know the answer to this question too. Thanks!

The adcom office is really nice. I don't think they will hold it against you if they don't want it. At worst, I think they will just throw it away. Or just call and ask. Like I said, they are nice.

Ditto. Just found out about that today. Completed 8/24. =( dont know if i am supposed to find solace in this or just give up...

Wait listed... I guess I'll be waiting until summer for a definitive answer. Depressing to say the least.

Accepted this morning! Incredibly honored.

I got my interview invitation kind of late and both my interviews felt the least successful of any that I've attended. I didn't feel too hopeful, but got accepted on the first day. I think there's a lesson here.

Good luck everyone else!

I spoke to Brian today and he said they rejected more people than any other year. Yet, no rejections on SDN and I'm the only wait listed person. Stings...

First acceptance! Still a little bit in shock, but I love this school and I'm absolutely thrilled. I interviewed 10/11, so it was a very quick turnaround. Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

Hey everyone,

Congratulations to those accepted so far!

Two questions:

A) UCSD does have a selective secondary correct?
B) I completed the UCSD secondary, and am wondering if that means my application is "no longer a numbers game".

In other words, are my chances of getting an interview/accepted "good"?

Do you think that filling out a selective secondary is the equivalent of being offered an interview for a non-selective secondary school? ...both would be passing the first "pool" of applicants.

Cheers!

They probably think your numbers are "acceptable". Good odds? Secondaries given out = 2000 and ~640 interviews so you can be the judge of that.

Anyone completed in mid/late sept getting II's? Or anyone getting ll's lately? I'd assume they were busy to send out the first batch of acceptances that they havn't had time to send out II's.

I was complete Sep 22, nothing yet.

complete 8/31 and have not heard anything, sometimes i think even a hold or rejection is better than nervous waiting
