For everyone on the waitlist - going by raw numbers, I think you will actually be in a better spot than waitlisted interviewees last year, even accounting for the 30 overaccepted students. Here's why:

Last cycle, we had a 280 person waitlist and 100 spots (with no overbooking/accepting). So there were 2.8 waitlisted interviewees per spot (280 waitlisted interviewees/100 spots = 2.8 waitlisted interviewees/spot).

This cycle, we basically have a 258 person waitlist (I assume it's finalized since yesterday, so a 228 person waitlist + 30 overaccepted = the same as a 258 person waitlist) and 120 spots. This comes to 2.15 waitlisted interviewees per spot.

I actually remember seeing an MS1 who said they all received 3rd gen iPads. He showed it to me. It was beautiful.

All will receive a PC as well as in iPad during the first week. Most of your text books will also be pre-loaded on those devices. Close to 98% of anything you will need from texts to journals are available on your devices.

REL,

Does pre-loaded mean the cost is automatically included in the fees portion of the COA? Very specific question I know, I'm just excited is all.

There is no additional fee involved beyond the tuition & fees cost. So I think the answer is yes.
 
Hi REL,

Do you know when the next waitlist updates will be going out now that interviews are done?
 
We have a good group returning for 2nd Look on April 12th. It should be a fun time, today is deadline so if you are accepted and havent confirmed via the RSVP site, please get it done today! Look forward to seeing y'all again!

Email attached by PDF. Just one sheet that outlines the Cost of Attendance, your grant/scholarship (renewable each year), and amount of Federal Stafford loans you're eligible for.

How early did you interview/get accepted?
 
Does UCF issue grants/scholarships to many people in its aid packages or is most/all of the funding expected to come from loans?

Relatively early, i.e. before Christmas.

Not sure about people in general, but the greater majority of my funding comes from Stafford loans. I imagine this is how most if not all FL schools are like, actually, regardless of your level of need.
 
where do the majority of MS1/MS2's live? what apartment complexes are close to the school?
 
Hello All, I was curious if anyone was interesteed in looking for an apartment around Lake Nona or if you we're in need of a female roommate? I have started the apartment search, but I'm still looking for a roommate. I will be starting at the UF College of Pharmacy at Lake Nona for Fall 2013. Please shoot me a message if interested.
 
Congrats everyone. Is the early dispersal of financial aid packages only for students with scholarships?

I suspect that all accepted at this time have been provided with some form of scholarship/grant. I do believe that only those who deferred entry from last year's class need to be addressed, and that should occur within a week or so. Some received emails that went to their trash/spam boxes. If you are accepted and did not receive an email check that area.

How much are OOS students receiving this year? I recall last year they got around 15k
 
I've got a question and it may require some MS1 or MS2 that browses this site asking and MS3 or MS4, but where do most MS3's and MS4's live? I know on interview day everyone kept saying they moved downtown closer to clinical sites, but not being from Florida, where is that exactly.

Anyone care to enlighten me? I'm just kinda curious as the housing for the first two years seems fantastic - nice and new and pretty cheap, but I'm curious how it is for MS3 and MS4.

Im sure this was discussed at interview day, but how much clinical exposure do students get during the first two years of school? Also, has the free clinic become a reality?

So you will have Clinical Skills for ~2hrs each week in the building as a part of the curriculum, as well you will have a preceptorship for a minimum of ~11 times (~4 hours each) at hospitals/clinics throughout the 1st/2nd year. You can schedule more with your preceptor if you desire.

The students opened the free clinic just after the new year.

Excellent. What type of doctors do students spend their preceptor hours with?
 
Did anyone go to second look? How was it? I wasn't able to go and am curious to know what went on that day.

So I want to bump this question and ask another.

Do med students get tickets to UCF sporting events like football and baseball?

So, the third and fourth years usually move downtown as mentioned. That's about half an hour away from the Lake Nona. As far as where in downtown, it depends on your budget. The "SODO" south downtown area has a lot of lofts near the big Target.

Winter Park is a fun area but it can run up to 45 mins from the Lake Nona area when you have to go back there and you usually have to deal with I-4.

Really people live all over third and fourth year. You'll begin to figure out what kind of area you want to be in during your first and second year.

For first year, look along Narcoossee Road at apartment complexes and there's a new complex that's opening 2 mins from the school. I think it's called watermark?

It's really easy to get football tickets. I don't know about basketball, but I assume it's the same way or similar

All kinds. They may be restructuring it so you rotate through a few, but I'm not sure. The clinical experience is pretty extensive through the class we take as well. I don't feel like I'm lacking in patient experience for a first year.

The clinic is up and running pretty smoothly. There's one session a month I think. They're looking to expand once they get more physician volunteers.
 
Sounds great! Hopefully the free clinic does get expanded, because that's the sort of thing I'd love to be a part of 🙂
 
If you just want a ton of "free clinic" hours, look up shepherds hope.....they have four locations with multiple nights of free clinic all over town
 
Hi Rel,

I was wondering if the waitlist shifts as soon as someone withdraws their acceptance or when the number of overacceptances has lowered to below 120 before more people will be accepted. I hope that made sense. 😕
 
By my understanding, waitlist movement occurs when the number of confirmed acceptances is lower than the total class size. i.e. 110 accepted offers for a 120-person class. If they have 150 accepted offers and 10 drop so they have 140, they don't do waitlist movement.

This would be my understanding too. Hopefully REL will post when they get down to that magical 120 number and us waitlisters can start expecting some movement.

Based on his last couple emails (to those in the upper 1/3rd), it doesn't look like we should expect anything till after May 15th.


Edit: BTW, anyone (aka any waitlisters) get the Certiphi Screening email yet?
