I'm also "applicant in progress" now, no idea what that means.

I think the distinction is actually between application and applicant - everyone who is being considered (i.e. whose application is considered complete and is up for review in front of the adcom at their monthly meetings) is called an applicant (they called us that at interviews as well), whereas I think if you're called an application, that means you're still not being reviewed by the adcom yet (even if all of your materials are in; it's probably just a matter of getting them all together in whatever standard format they use for their internal assessments).

So "applicant in process" (it doesn't appear that "progress" is ever used) means your application is being looked at by the UIC adcom now, and so you'll find out (hopefully sooner rather than later) whether or not you get an interview invite.

Yeah, I understand. The last few posts were by people who understand the difference between "applicant" and "application," but we have all had our statuses change from "application in process" to "applicant in process" to now "applicant in progress." Again, we understand the difference between "application" and "applicant," but our question is if there's a difference between "process" and "progress."

Thanks, but this doesn't address a distinction between "process" or "progress."

Crap. I'm sorry I just saw the term applicant flash in front of my face and thought people were simply not looking back through older posts and/or being lazy.

My apologies.

you guys should call and ask, the people in admission are pretty nice.

...And now I'm back to applicant in "process." I think they are trying to mess with our heads... hahaha 😛 As long as they interview me I don't mind :xf:

Does anyone know if there's a difference between "application in process" and "application IS in process"? I was "application in process" then applicant in process for about 2 months, and then changed to application is in process, but when I called the admissions people (super nice and helpful) said that it had gone through the first screener and was going to another reviewer, does anyone know if thats normal?

that's my situation right now currently also!! I think it is normal...I would figure that an admissions committee would have more than one screener...ya know??🙂

My status is now,
"Applicant has an application that is in the process of being in progress."

lol.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat... it was "applicant in process" yesterday, and today it's "application is in process." I guess we'll find out :xf:

Got notification of my spot in Chicago track! Woohoo!

Bumping the OOS financial aid question...any current students able to speak about how the high tuition is for them? I really loved UIC but financially its scary!

I'm IS and the tuition is still pretty high. It is ridonkulously high for OOS students! If you have multiple acceptances by the end of the season and UIC does not offer you a scholarship (where you pay IS tuition instead), a different school would probably be a more financially-feasible choice. Wish I had something better to say, but Illinois is pretty broke, so tuition won't be decreasing anytime soon.

So, hold on to the acceptance and see if you're offered a scholarship to pay IS tuition instead. I'm not sure what the criteria for deciding that is, though.

Kaushik, I don't know about you, but I believe several people in my class have been able to get in state tuition one way or the other (academically, diversity-promoting, etc.)

also, I found this pretty cool while procrastinating for our anatomy exam https://www.ecampustours.com/virtualtours/VirtualTourSub.aspx?FafsaCode=001776&ItemID=10

UIC is actually pretty if you look 🙂 plus, where else do you get to study anatomy while overlooking the chicago skyline?

and just to bump for people receiving interviews: the M1's have a hosting program and we would be glad to have interviewees stay, you can search my post in this thread earlier and find the googledoc with people willing to host and see we have a range of the types of people you'll going to school with for your hosting pleasure-feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions

Thanks!! 🙂 yeah I really really loved UIC. Hopefully financially there's a way things will work out! Do you know how quickly UIC gets fin aid packages out?

Just wanted to say that for my interview, I stayed with one of the students through this informal hosting--and it was great! I got to meet a handful of students, and get a feel for what it's like to be in Chicago and at UIC--everyone is super nice!

I can attest to this as well. My cousin moved from Texas to go to UIC and managed to claim residency very quickly because his wife started working in illinois. There are all sorts of ways to qualify.

How do you find out which satellite campus you would be attending? Can you just sign up for the one you want? Or is there some sort of "lottery" system like at IU?

Thanks!

when you get accepted, you have a chance to put your preference between the Urbana or Chicago track, as well as indicating your preferences for Peoria/Rockford/Urbana for your clinical years in the Urbana track.

After returning the response card, the admission office will let you know where you've been assigned and a spot saved. I spoke to some students who mentioned it's a first come first serve system, but that they've appealed to change tracks after being assigned. Also, special programs like UMed can "guarantee" a spot in the Chicago track, for example.

I apologize if this has been covered already, but if someone is interested in the urban med or global med tracks, are they supposed to complete the separate application fro that program along side their secondary application, or can you not complete the UMED or GMED apps until you have been accepted to the med school?

I completed my UMED app and sent it via email before I was accepted. I haven't heard details about my standing in UMED though

After the committee meets, how long does it take for the "decision has been made" and possibly the "additional correspondence" tab to show up? I have an interview at another school early next week, so I am wondering if I will know about UIC before the weekend if they are meeting tomorrow--I would then be able to cancel the other interview. Thanks!

Also- I interviewed on the 8th of November, can I expect to hear back tomorrow?

I am dying to go to this school, I'm so worried that this status is a hold status! It seems very unusual to be an applicant longer than 2 weeks and still get an interview invite it seems after looking through this thread...

Congrats! Did you receive an e-mail or did you find out by logging onto the website?

I don't want to speak as an authoritative source, but this is my understanding of how they achieved in-state resident status. This looks like something a good place to start some research:

A nonresident shall be classified as a resident if his/her spouse is a resident of Illinois and meets the applicable requirements of these regulations. A noncitizen may establish residency through his/her resident spouse, provided the noncitizen complies with Section D of these Regulations.

Section D seems to be pretty basic stuff. One year, illinois drivers license, etc.

It's definitely something to look into.

So getting back to neurotic status checks. I interviewed on 9/25 and my status is still pending a decision. I was told to expect a decision around Thanksgiving, which kind of snuck up on me. Getting to be that time.

Others who interviewed around the same time in the same boat?

Thank you so much for the info!!!!!! your post gives me hope! i am OOS REALLY wanting to attent UIC in the fall but the 71k is very scary. do you know who i could contact to get more info?

ii today! oos, complete early July... Hope for all of us still waiting!

Just got an II today. Complete 10/01, I missed the boat yesterday though and they only had 3 interview slots left, only for rockford and peoria

Oh thank goodness, scheduled a Chicago date for two weeks from now. Thank you to whomever gave that date up (especially considering that they won't reschedule for any reason according to the website...)!!

EDIT: For those who asked, I got an email from the admissions office titled UIC COLLEGE OF MEDICINE INTERVIEW, so I started to freak out before I even read the email! I gave up on checking my status online cause it kept saying the same thing (until it didn't I guess).

I just called admissions and was told my file is being brought to the committee now so I should be hearing something in the next week or so. That being said, my online status hasn't changed in months (always been applicant in progress), so I just don't know what to make of this. Either way please show some IS love to markyb UIC?

Thanks for responding.

I emailed the Center for Global Health office (since I am interested in the Gmed program) and they said that a prerequisite for applying is being accepted into the COM, so I guess I will just wait to see if I hear good news from the admissions committee!

I called admissions today too. The really helpful guy there said that there's no difference between application and applicant BUT that's probably not true based on other's experiences. But he did say he's trying to get reviewers to look at these apps that have been submitted since august (me :-( ) Ive been applicant in progress for 1 week so hoping for some sort of update next week...maybe...:xf:

Since the admissions committee is meeting today, has anyone had a status change or had "final decision has been made" come up today?

Last month it came up for us at around 2:30. It was also on the fourth Thursday last month; are you sure the adcom met today? Though I guess next week is Thanksgiving... good luck either way :luck:

Did they tell you at your interview that the admissions committee would be meeting today?

Also, after my interview, it took until the next business day for "Decision Pending" to appear on my status page, so maybe there will be a one-day delay for our pages to be updated.

Yep, they meet the third Thursday of every month.

Hey guys, how long does it usually take to receive a acceptance/rejection after the committee meets? I interviewed first week of November. We were told that the committee was meeting on November 15 (today) to review interviewees.

I contacted one of my interviewers and was told that a decision hasn't been made on my application yet (I interviewed at the end of October). Hopefully this means that the adcom didn't actually meet today, and not that I've been put on hold for re-review at the next meeting... Has anyone else who's waiting for a post-interview status change gotten one yet?

i'm still at decision pending and in a very similar boat ruffled. GL!

Yeah when I called they also told me that those status' are pretty arbitrary but who knows. I keep getting the same answer that they've reviewed my application and I should get a status update in a few weeks, but I feel like when I called them three weeks ago they said the same thing... oh well.

A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone

Means Im rejected, right?

Super disappointed, IS 33Q, 3.5s/c, NIH postbac for 3 years, work as a HIV tester/counselor for a year... not sure what went wrong...
