hey guys, just received a "no final decision made" E-mail. Do people that get this usually get waitlisted or rejected?

It means that after interview, they couldn't decide whether to accept/reject you, so they will continue reviewing you every month at their meeting. It's essentially kind of an unofficial waitlist, IIRC.

Stats?

EDIT: sorry for the multiple posts, I suck with computers and couldn't figure out how to quote you guys :/

3.5c/3.5sci 34 (10PS, 12VR, 12BS). Lots of research, didn't start volunteering until a couple weeks before I submitted my primary in July.

Accepted! OOS, interviewed on 11/8, and just received the big ol' fat packet in the mail. And as mentioned previously, I had the "additional correspondence" tab once the "final decision" status update was posted.

Good luck to everyone else with upcoming interviews or waiting to hear back.

Does anyone know whether biochem (specifically "the biochemistry of physiology") would fulfill the advanced bio class pre-req? I'm asking here because the counselors aren't in to take calls until Thursday.

sounds advanced enough to me! I'm assuming anything beyond basic general bio can qualify

Is the check status page the same as the website where we submitted our secondary? If not, I think I lost that email, would you mind sending me a link to that webpage?

Interview invite from my state school!!!! Im so excited!!!! =D =D =D

The link posted above by neworleans8 will take you to the status page.

I am finishing up the secondary and I'm really confused on the last essay about advantages or disadvantages during your education. Did most people put something? Is it bad to put an advantage like having family associated with my university I can think of one disadvantage but it is not something I wish to reveal.

Me too! Finally some state-school love! 😀

congrats!! when were you finished/did your status ever read applicant in process/progress and how long? sorry for all the questions...been in applicant in progress for almost 3 weeks--getting anxious :scared:

It said "applicant in process" for about a month (I don't know the exactly time length) so don't lose hope!

Also, the only day available they had a spot to interview was late December so I think from here on out, all interviews will be in 2013.

ERMAHGERD INTERVIER!! ser excerterd.

PS I was complete in mid-August and was 'applicant in process' for about 2.5 weeks

Edit: Of course today was the day I forgot my phone at home and haven't had access to my email. Zero interview spots still available :-/... guess I'll have to wait til they post more.

Blargh, I turned applicant the same day you guys did, but no invite over here. WHAT COULD THIS MEAN?!?!?!?!?!?! Meh, I cannot wait until this whole process is over and I can go back to being a real person. Congrats to the invitees, cross your fingers for the rest of us!

Can any OOS shed any light on how to pay for this massive tuition?!?!

CONGRATS!!!

I was totally pulling for you! Don't worry, more interview spots will open up. Just keep checking like a crazy person (i.e. like me) and something will definitely open up.

Just finished my interview yesterday!

It was my first, so I'm not 100% sure how it went but it was a really relaxed day. I spent most of the day talking to my fellow interviewees which was pretty cool. I had three interviews, two of which were pretty standard and conversational and one which was a little weird (asked a lot of ethics questions that were not super clear) but I think I kept up okay. All of the people I met there were geniuinely happy to be there and proud of their school.

I really liked that they emphasized that once you make it to the interview phase, you're the one that needs to be sold on the school (not that the school needs to be sold on you). Also, once you get to the interview phase, you are not rejected until April and that the number of acceptances given each round depends a little on how strong your interviewing group was (i.e. if everyone was stellar, you might get held over until the next round but if you're better than the group following you, you will get accepted with them).

tl;dr...Definitely impressed!

Also numbers for anyone who's interested--the dean who gave the info presentation said that these were their approximate numbers for 2012.

Applicants so far this cycle: around 7500
Interview invites expected: around 600
Acceptances offered: 320
Matriculants expected: 175

Can any OOS shed any light on how to pay for this massive tuition?!?!

+1 I'm assuming there's not much by way of grants/scholarships 🙁 haha maybe all the OOS students are working multiple jobs to help offset the massive loan cost so they're too busy to respond on SDN

I think I'm right around 2.5 weeks...ahhh so hoping for some home state love!:xf:

I was complete in August as well. Turned to applicant in process/progress earlier this month. So it took about 2-3 weeks for me to get an II after that... hopefully yours will come soon!

Yayy, thank you! Let's be friends. And yeah, I'm probably going to call the admissions office today. One question (for you and other people who had the same situation) - do they add more spots on the same days that are already listed, or do they list a whole new set of dates? Hoping it isn't too late to get a December spot.

Edit, especially for those who just got IIs: on the grid it says there are 0 spots anywhere, but there are actually spots open! I just called the admissions office and they were super helpful and scheduled me. Oh man, I'm so excited for this one.

STALK THAT SITE, girl!!! When I got an II, there was only 8 spots left on one date in one location - which I couldn't make. I stalked the status page the next day and called as SOON as I saw them put more spots up. For me at least - they added about 2 more weeks of dates (maybe a little more - they were early/mid December) and multiple spots at each location, both AM and PM, for each date.

Hope this helped! I've been rooting for you as well! 🙂

Thanks a ton!! Btw, I ended up getting a date, location and time that works perfectly for me. 😀

Doh, I just noticed I'm "applicant in process"

...not sure how long I've been like this. :scared:

about how long does it take after you get accepted (and you mail all the paperwork) for your site to be assigned? and is everyone this early getting their first choice, or have they already started to send Chicago-choosers elsewhere?

I'm sure they have their reasons, but the site assignment process is alarmingly non-transparent (from my point of view).

good luck to all of you still waiting to hear!

rejected via snail mail sent to my home... Never had one of these before... Makes me wonder what other ones I'm getting that my parents are not telling me about....

Can any OOS students speak to the loans/tuition costs of the school? 72k a year is terrifying. Any opportunities to become in state? Opportunities for scholarships/grants to help?

I can't find the website where you check your status. Can anybody help me out?

I have called and emailed the school multiple times and have received no info regarding any o fthe above. any current OOS students have any input?

II 🙂

Can I ask: are the interviews different in each site? I would greatly appreciate any feedback regarding interviews at the Chicago location 👍

They sent mine back within a few days. I was surprised how fast it came. Hope to see you in Chicago!

Interviewing at Chicago: 3 Interviewers. I had two med students and a professor. They are blind to you academic records, but any experiences and anything on your secondary is open. You get a tour of the school. Mine was run by M4s so they were great at answering all of my questions. Lunch is provided. I had a great experience. I was much more excited for UIC after the interview.

just called admissions, she just kept telling me its a possibility that I'm with a reviewer or that I'll hear back before 2013...its also a possibility that a dog ate my application; UGH so frustrated, I also asked about my applicant in progress status change and she said that meant NOTHING and that the system is updating, unlikely considering others experiences. thats my morning rant, sorry just been complete since August, thought i'd at least get some sort of helpful response

I was interviewed by one PhD, one staff member, and one med student in Chicago. If you go to the interview feedback for UIC, you can see most of the questions they ask you. It seemed like they were asking questions from a set list because I got asked the same questions multiple times. Also, the vegetarian meal doesn't come with a cookie 🙁

Can anyone who interviewed in Peoria share your experience? Thanks!

I wanted to share that I also was complete in August and switched to "applicant in progress" about 2.5 weeks ago. Just noticed that I switched to "applicant in process" if that means anything different. Hang in there...we're in the same boat!

Sure!

16 interviewees arrived at about noon. We sat in a big circle during "lunchtime" for about 30 minutes. We were offered box lunches, which few of us took (it wasn't obvious that we were going to be given lunch). Then we were given a presentation about the school and financial aid. Then we were split into groups. Some went right to interviews, some went on tours led by students. Everyone's first interview was with two physicians. The second interview is with a student. A large fraction of the physician interviewers are retired. Both of my interviews were very low-stress.

let me know if you have any specific questions. Overall it was a very low-stress day and I bet you will be fine without any guidance. But I am happy to help if possible.

Well, I got a 'no decision yet' email instead of an acceptance this month, so take it fwiw. I'm a very weird application with bipolar stats and 5 years doing something completely unrelated to the medical field.

The Peoria campus is in Peoria, which is not a fun city and not where I'd like to end up. However, the people there seemed friendly and willing just to talk inbetween interviews. The day started off with a lecture about UIC and how it works and all that fun stuff. There was a very brief tour that basically showed the library and a few rooms, all in the same building. You'll be sold on Peoria. Don't buy it unless you hate big cities.

You have two interviews, one with faculty and one with a student. On my day the faculty was 2 on 1, which I thought could be a little bit intimidating if you weren't ready for it. The student interview, for me at least, was the much harder one.

There's a lot of downtime where you talk to important people, so remember to be nice and friendly to everyone.

I used to work at UIC, and have many OOS friends who graduated from UIC Med several years ago. They told me that there are very few, if any, scholarships available. The reason for this is that UIC College of Med is broke; that's probably why the OOS tuition is so high.

My friends either graduated with close to 400K in debt, or owed nothing. Those that owed nothing came from extremely wealthy families (aren't most med students privileged anyways?). Hope this helps.

as someone OOS who really loved my experience at my UIC interview (PM me those of you interviewing at Chicago if you have questions!), the financial situation here = *sigh*

does the school being "broke" affect the education/training/opportunities for students? I didn't get that impression at all during my visit.

I certainly did not get that impression either. But I would also like to hear a current students opinion on this.

I also interviewed in Peoria in early October and got the no decision yet email as well. I was wondering if anyone who has interviewed in Peoria has received a decision yet. I had an interesting experience with my two faculty interviewers and felt I was asked a rather unprofessional question. I thought I recovered quickly from it but now I am getting paranoid! Student interview, however, went great.

Sorry if this is redundant but does anyone know how frequently they post new interview dates?

Can anyone comment on the interview day in Rockford? Thanks!

OK dont know whether to be excited or worried, maybe both? anyhoo I went from applicant to "applicant in progress" now this morning im applicant in PROCESS...good thing bad thing? from the looks of it I may hear back very shortly, don't really know and would love some input
