Is there a link to where I can check the status of the application? All I can see when I login is the supplemental application but it does not give a status. I am not sure what I am missing.

They haven't released the dates yet, so there should be nothing yet.

I just checked my status, it appears my letters made it in! My application is now "in process" Although weirdly two of my letters have a submit date of 8/9, even though I submitted them far in advance via AMCAS.

Oh well.

Yeah I called them once and they said "oh your letters just got in and you application will now be in process," even tho I had sent my letters a while back, and they had been "recieved." That day my application status changed. Not sure if i was the phone call or just a coincidence.
How long does "in Process" normally take until you hear anything?

Can someone help me out? I've been invited to an interview, but when I click "check supplemental application status", nothing happens.

When did the invite come? I just called and they said that they haven't even started the review of the secondaries :/

I retook the MCAT in July, and on my status page it says under "most recent MCAT date: July 2012," but also under "next MCAT date; July 2012." Anyone else have something similar? I'm just worried they're still waiting for some test that will never happen.

EDIT: and I got my score back almost two weeks ago.

Congrats! Did you get an email? and did your status change from "application in process" to something else before you got the II?

Yeah, I got an email. I haven't checked my status often, I admit, but I don't think the status changed.

Hey Reek,

Would you mind sharing your stats for reference?

EDIT: Spelling...

I took my first and only MCAT in July 2012, and my status page says the same thing. I don't think it's an issue...

Interview invite this morning. Scheduled for sept 21st in chicago

Did anyone write anything for the question "Describe any advantages and/or complications you encountered during your progression in education. Please include any noteworthy achievements and/or obstacles. (Examples: Acute or chronic illnesses, employment, financial difficulty, managerial role in household, etc.)"?

Things I thought about including:
1. Achievements-- president's list 7 semester's, provost's list 1 semester (this is in my AMCAS though, and apparent from my GPA)
2. Acute Illness-- I began suffering from an inner ear disorder right before moving to college, it was undiagnosed for quite a while, I had to miss some school to run home for doctor appointments (grades were not negatively affected, though).

I'm kind of stretching to come up with something. Should I just leave it blank?

Edit: I didn't realize until reading this thread how expensive UIC is for OOSers! Considering not submitting my secondary, because 71k tuition is horrendous.

I have been "In Process" for over a month now.

Just noticed that my status went from "application in process" to "applicant in process"

In looking in past threads, I came across this from HAL9000:

******************************************

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. [At the bottom of this post I link to a program I made that makes checking your status as easy as double clicking your mouse.]

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.

M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.

N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.

S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.

X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

does anyone have the address of the site where you check your status? I followed the directions when I called the office, but it seems like their instructions are off.

I'm the same. Would be nice if we knew the approximate time from of these status changes. Is it a day or two long? couple weeks?

I've been an applicant in process for at least two weeks now. Still waiting....

Are there any current UIC students on here who could comment on why they chose UIC/ compare with Rush and Loyola/ what the school is like? It seems like all of the other Chicago med schools are getting lots of love but UIC is getting left behind 🙁 This is one of my top choices being IS and since my dad went here, and I really want to start getting excited about it!!!

Last year I was "applicant in process" for about 2 and a half months before I got the interview invite. My understanding from applying last year is that "application in process" means your app is complete and in the running. When it switches from "application in process" to "applicant in process," it means the ADCOM looked at your file that month, and are either going to grant you an invite very soon, or keep looking at your file every month until they either invite you to interview or stop looking at you, in which case your status would switch back to "application in process." Hope this helps! And I hope I get switched to applicant in process soon too! haha

UIC doesn't get as much love because we don't wow pre-meds with sparkling libraries and computer-powered anatomy labs. However, UIC will train you well, with plenty of early patient contact and a strong clinical education. We do rotations at the city's busiest and most acute hospitals, with a culture of student teaching and responsibility. As a result, our match lists are very strong because our students come out with a rigorous education.

You won't get your hand held at UIC, but you have more opportunities at your fingertips than any other med school in Chicagoland. Tons of extracurriculars, opportunities for mentoring/shadowing, elective choices, etc.

Also, in terms of facilities/infrastructure, UIC is investing a ton of money in upgrading the classrooms/study spaces. The College of Medicine building (built in early 1930s) is being upgraded with new classrooms for group-based learning, new student center, etc. The administration had an "aha" moment a few years ago when they realized that we would no longer be financially supported by the state in any meaningful sense. We are basically a private school now (and the tuition unfortunately reflects that), and a huge fundraising initiative was begun. Now, for the first time, the College of Medicine has the financial capital to begin to "catch up" with schools like Loyola and Rush in terms of pre-clinical facilities. Combine that with our outstanding clinical education (which I think is superior to any school in Chicago and have heard similar sentiments from attendings that have students from several schools), I think there is plenty to be excited about.

As usual, I'm happy to answer any specific questions.

Anyone know how UIC handles grading? Is it pass/fail? True pass/fail?

Anyone know how UIC handles grading? Is it pass/fail? True pass/fail?

Pre-clinical: Honors/Pass/Fail. The pass level is usually set prior to each exam, while the honors level is top ~15%. So you're not competing with your classmates to pass, but you are competing for honors.

Clinical: Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail. Usually 2/3rds clinical grade + 1/3rd shelf. There's some formula. Typical $hit-show third year grading.

To be honest, I don't think grading system is a good way of differentiating medical schools.

Check your status pages...I think they were updated.

whoa i just did! there's a big grid now named "interview scheduling" and what looks like interview dates! Everything's blank right now though...does this mean I'm going to be offered an II? Or is this just something they do for everyone...
