"Did anyone just get an email from Admissions regarding applying?"

Yeah. They just want money would be my guess.

I didn't apply there; it said something to the effect of, "We hope you're considering the U of M...."

I think it was just an email blast for certain MCAT scores.

Sure did. Congratulating me on my MCAT score (?!) and encouraging me to apply. A bit confused by how they have access to this info, and if they do not, why they would send this?

They do, through AMCAS. Got an email similar to that from another school a month ago.

They're looking for $$$...

I just an email congratulating me on the MCAT/trolling me for app money. I'm too broke to apply to more reach schools, sorry Michigan!

LOL. They're preying upon the desperate. Very smart.

+1

Then I go to their website just to look and it says they've already given out 307 interviews!! Thats almost half of all the II's they'll give out 😱 If they would have sent this email when I may have still had a shot I may have considered coughing up another $100 or w/e... (probably not though)

307 interviews already? It's kind of frustrating that they sent me this email considering I'm literally in their 10th percentile for cGPA, sGPA, and every subsection of the MCAT.

Got the email too. If you really wanted me Michigan, you would have been proactive and sent that email 2 months ago. I applied to schools two months ago, and you couldn't even send an email asking me to apply?

haha from their twitter: "The notion that we want applications for revenue is simply wrong/We don't keep those funds in the medical school. Fact is we want applicants"

someone reads SDN. . .

If you're listening adcoms- raffle off season hockey tickets at interviews please!? 🙂
Go Blue!

I saw this too.

I ended up submitting my primary after the e-mail. But then again I'm working 60 hours weeks so I have the money to do so.

I'm not sure why I didn't apply here earlier... I guess it was because I'm OOS and didn't think I was competitive enough. I decided that this past notion was dead wrong after I looked at their class profile.

Also going October 26. Glad they opened up more dates!

Does anyone know if it makes sense to rent a car from DTW or is there good shuttle/bus service around Ann Arbor? I usually prefer public transit but would hate to get stuck navigating a difficult town at 7 am...thanks!

There actually are a few decent bus services to Ann Arbor. One of the newest is AATA's Air Ride -- $22 round trip in advance (http://www.myairride.com/). Not sure when you would be coming in (evening before, presumably?) but you could definitely find a place to stay and use public transportation to get there in time. I live in A2 and commute via public transportation a lot to the hospital, so if you are interested in that option and want to PM me for help I'm happy to help you (or anyone else) plan it.

I received a letter today as well. Funny thing is I am Canadian and U of Michigan doesn't take foreigners!

Also got the e-mail, even though I finished my secondary a few weeks ago.

Not sure if my feelings are valid, but it really turned me off. Sending recruitment emails to high MCAT scorers in early September while knowing that half of your interview slots are already gone doesn't really fly well with me.

/end rant

I applied to medical school a LONG time ago (resident on the east coast now), and did not end up going to UMich for any portion of my training, but can say that I really respected how holistic their admissions process was.

You would be surprised by how many medical schools take your money and auto-screen you out by numbers without even looking at your app (Wash U, Vandy, Pitt). The "executive adcom" at Michigan is probably one of the few that actually goes through your ENTIRE application before making a decision while being simultaneously transparent about their process. I respect that. Their holistic review is also probably the reason that some of my current colleagues, who openly admit they had "below average numbers" but phenomenal life experiences as a med school applicant, received interviews/attended UMich.

Agreed. I didn't apply here but I got the email.

UMich, if you want my application, offer me a fee waiver, not an automated email. Otherwise, you just want my money.

Thanks Lovesfall. I'm gonna send you a pm once I know where my host actually lives...

Thanks for posting that, S&S, that's good to know. 👍

Did you guys get an email about the "Top 5 Ways to Go Blue" this morning?

Ah, submitted two months ago today. Pretty much resigned to my fate at this school. Sad thing is I wrote the secondary essays that I used as templates for other schools for University of Michigan primarily. It's kind of hard to believe that my application is still "under review" when I've heard of people getting interview invitations before they even submitted a secondary and people complete way after me have already gotten interview invitations (with half the interview invites gone too.) If anything, I wish I didn't know what times they sent out interview invitations. This waiting every Tuesday/Thursday is not pleasant.

Yeah this isn't fun. As a life long Wolverine fan and proud alum, every passing Tuesday and Thursday is hard to take. These recruitment emails are just mean too haha

But they are so "HOLISTIC"!

While some schools look at only MCAT scores, U Mich looks at both MCAT and GPA before offering an invite. 😛

Halfway done with II's and your OOS interviewee average is a 38, huh? HMMMMM...

Well said.

Does anyone know what interview dates are still open now? I've signed up for an October one but need to switch and would like to have an idea of how delayed my interview will be if I reschedule.

And do schools allow 2+ people to swap around interview dates? For example, if I found someone who had an Nov date and watned to switch to Oct...

"We have nearly 50 interview offers to make this afternoon" They're giving out 50 out of ~300 remaining all today?!?! So nervous :scared:

i've been complete since 8/8 and still nothing. JUST SEND ME AN INVITE (please?) has anyone tried sending a pre-interview letter of intent to michigan/does anyone know how they look upon those?

No offense but you think you've waited a long time? I've been complete since July 10 xD on the other note, I've heard they aren't very receptive to letters of intent but I could be wrong.

looks like another day of silence. complete 7/10 as well 🙁 boo

+4 and I'm IS, complete 8/8. Super disheartening 🙁

+5? IS UofM Alum. Complete 7/5. Although there's the complication that I interviewed there before. Might count against me. Just gotta keep sending the updates and hope they look favorably on us when they take a second (or third or fourth) look at their received apps. Use the disappointing feelings as fuel to work harder on whatever you've got to work on. Helps you be productive.

Does anyone have a hold status yet? Or is everyone still "under review"?

Just received an Interview Invite around 4pm today! They received my secondary Tuesday morning (9/11), sent me a confirmation email about my payment (9/12), and interview invite today (9/13), which took me by complete surprise at their speed. My application is not complete yet, since my pre-health committee hasn't even written/sent my committee letter and letters of recommendations. I thought there was a rumor that they don't send out auto-invites, especially since my stats are pretty average: cGPA: 3.6, sGPA: 3.6, MCAT: 37, OOS.

Also, less with all of the "me, me, me," on this thread. You know that Michigan's mantra is "The Team, THE TEAM, THE TEAM," right?

Ah still waiting too. Maybe there weren't many interview invites yesterday? If there were 50 interview invites offered yesterday, and granted I know that not every pre-med celebrates on SDN, but how come there was only one person who claimed an interview invite yesterday? Maybe yesterday was a small batch 🙂

That's wishful thinking. I don't think that they would post wildly inaccurate information on their twitter page xD. I think it just shows that only a minority of those who apply actually go on SDN regularly and among those people an even smaller proportion would faithfully post every (or any) interview invitation they have received. Sucks that they're likely past the halfway point on the number of interview invitations they will extend this cycle.

To the students that interviewed today: it was great meeting all of you. I was a tour guide....shout out to the Victors group. I will also be doing tours for the next 3 interview days, so I'm sure I will be meeting some of you.
If anybody here has any questions about U of M let me know. It wasn't long ago I was in your shoes. 👍

Good luck!!

Another 1-2-3 Tuesday rolling in... fingers crossed its a good SDN interview invite day! :xf:
