Yup, the more time I spend at other institutions, the more I realize that Michigan is unique in very important ways- can't wait to hear from them (as long as it's good news)!
 
These 1-2-3 Tuesdays and 3-2-1 Thursdays have really come to a standstill. I guess that's what happens when you send half your IIs in July and August... :/
 
Hey guys how do you send update letters to Michigan? I emailed the office with a PDF file and they said they only take update letters through amcas. Perhaps they thought I was referring to a LOR?

Just interviewed here... They told us they're looking to make 400 OOS interview offers and 200 IS interview offers. Then they're going to make admissions offers to 200 OOS and to 100 IS... cut down from originally planning to give 640 total interview offers and 350 admissions offers.
 
So interesting that they think they can predict a high yield like that this year.

Yeah it's crazy. It really seems to be an insanely competitive year, and I can only imagine how frustrating this may be for a lot of applicants.

Having said that, Michigan is an absolutely amazing school, as you all will see if you visit there. Good luck to everyone!

Question about this. I won't reveal any specific numbers but I recall at my interview day the number of people in state was nowhere near half the number of interviewees. Could that be just how it worked out on that day or what...?

Well since they're giving out 400 OOS / 200 IS interviews, shouldn't the ratio of OOS/IS be about 2:1? Therefore, out of the 40 people, about 27 should be OOS / 13 IS? (i.e. not half)

Well, that pretty much douses the slim chance I had of getting in here (after interviews). At any rate, best of luck to everyone else.
 
Really hoping that Halloween puts the AEC in a great mood tomorrow! Oh to be a fly on the wall in that room. . .
Michigan is my absolute top choice- ready to don my maize and blue again! :xf:

Thrilled and honored to be accepted here! Having toured some other places with bigger names, I've not yet seen a school that combines such a wealth of resources and opportunities with such happy, enthusiastic students and an overall positive environment.

Congrats to future classmates, and best of luck to those still waiting!

Twitter says "Will be a very interesting session today"

I hope by "very interesting" they mean unprecedented because they make offers to everyone reviewed today. Ha. How am I going to sleep between today and Monday?
 
I wonder if they will notice that it is my birthday while they are reviewing my application today...

I liked it, granted by now I'm totally accepting of the fact that Michigan likes to send many emails, apparently not the ever elusive II, but many e-mails. I read the update as:

"We know you are feeling disinterested and losing hope, but please have hope, you may get an II, or you may just be waiting full of hope to be crushed. Either way, we wish you the best."

Well, that's quite consistent with the application process anyways, best of luck to all of you.

That is a reasonable and non-terrifying supposition. I think I'm going to go with it.

It's now the month in which we students who interviewed on 10/5 and 10/19 will receive our decisions. My anticipation is palpable :scared:.

me too! At our interview day they hinted that perhaps they would release decisions a little sooner than scheduled. . . which of course has me checking my portal every 10 minutes now.

What is the difference between defer and waitlist... does defer mean that they will review you again the next time they look at applications? That they're not sure what they want to do with you yet?
 
I know you're very busy but the decisions are made, please just post them and put me out of my misery!!! This is going to be the longest weekend ever.

In general, all students granted interviews at Umich have already proven academic competence, so it is something about the way that applicant presented himself or herself at the interview that led to a flat-out rejection. One of the most common reasons (I have heard) is a failure to take the student interviewer seriously. Please be aware: the AEC takes this interview at least as seriously as those from faculty and alumni.

Deferred decisions mean that the decision has been deferred until sometime in December, when all of those files will be reviewed again. They will be sorted into some acceptances and some re-deferrals. I believe that the re-deferrals will be sorted into acceptances and waitlists sometime in February.

Not sure how much you know about this - but how much would MCAT/sGPA etc. factor into being accepted vs. being waitlisted? I know that everyone interviewed has shown academic competence, but I imagine that interviewees are "ranked" in some way, and if so, I imagine the MCAT score and sGPA being significant factors in that ranking.

If you go to their admissions website, their powerpoint tracker has average MCAT/GPA of applied vs. interviewed vs. accepted students.

There's no "formula" for how admissions work here at Umich; an applicant's entire file is considered in admissions decisions, including MCAT, GPA, extracurriculars, written statements, and interview impressions. The extent to which each individual factor influences the decision probably depends on the degree of variation from the "average" interviewee (i.e. the AEC may pay more attention to the MCAT score of a particular applicant if it is very high or very low), but that is just speculation.

Btw, caveat to all of my posts here: I am a current student, and any information or opinions that I share are my own and based on my experience with the school and admissions process. In no way is anything that I say necessarily "official" information; if you have a really important question, email admissions (also, they're pretty much the friendliest people on earth).
