Yeah, that was interesting. Makes you wonder about the rate at which people are able to get away with this stuff. With 40k+ people per year I'm sure some manage it.

So what happens in cases like this? Michigan contacts AMCAS which contacts all schools to which that applicant applied?

I assume this person's "inconsistencies" held up though...because I'm sure he/she would have been rejected if they hadn't, and according to the twitter nobody was rejected?

One would assume that would be the necessary course of action to take. They also tweeted about looking up publications on PubMed to verify them. Maybe said applicant made up a publication he/she didn't actually have, which would be a pretty naive move since everything is online... :smack:

No.

When you filled out your activity listing, you listed contact information for each activity. Your LOR writers also have contact info listed. They're going to be contacting all those people.

They don't contact your other schools. If they can prove you lied on your AMCAS, they could contact AMCAS and say so, but that's about it.

If they contacted AMCAS with incontrovertible evidence that the applicant lied on their application would AMCAS really not share this info with other schools? I find this hard to believe.

Had my interview on Friday. In love 😍😍😍😍😍😍.... Please take me michigan!

In that case, it's possible AMCAS may withdraw your application or ban you from applying, depending on how their TOS work out. I think falsification is "punishable" by saying you can't use AMCAS, which destroys any chance you have of going to MD schools.

So what does it mean exactly to be deferred? I mean I know that we have to wait until March, but in terms of chances are what are we talking? Has anyone come off deferred yet this year. Are people still listed as highly desirable?

I was deferred to December and then accepted. And I'm pretty sure this tweet is referring to acceptance letters for those who had been deferred to December. So they definitely still take people who were deferred!

Yeah but your stats are sick.

Mine are comparatively pedestrian. At this point, just have to send in a letter and then wait and see. 😎

Hey,

Congratulations to all going to UMich Med, and good luck to all who are waiting to hear back! It's a great school/college town!

I'm going to UMich Dental and will be starting this June. If any girls are interested in rooming with someone else in a different professional school, send me a private message and we can see if we'd be a good fit! Thanks 🙂

Best of luck! I think final decision after deferall is just ridiculously hard to predict. Obviously they were very interested if they interviewed you, especially if they invited you early in the season, but after the interview, they didn't feel strongly (positively or negatively) enough to accept, reject, or waitlist you. The reason they deferred you (no idea, in my case) as well as the final decision is anybody's guess. It's definitely rough to get deferred by a school that is known for giving people feedback so quickly though :-/

A pre-dental student on a pre-medical forum??
Everybody, scare her away!!
😍 😍 :welcome:

Haha, well if you need a roommate this is a good place to find respective co-gunners. 😉

And March deferrals would be March 1st, no?

Haha, I won't get scared away that easy ;-)

And, I thought it would be a nice way to branch out to a different graduate programs!

Seriously though...any female students...PM me. I've found an amazinggg apartment, just need someone to split it with!

Also, any males, if you know of any females who are looking, tell them to get in touch with me please! It'd be GREATLY appreciated 🙂

Haha yes! Co-gunners in a completely different program are the best! At least then you're not competing against each other!

So even though the status says, "Under Review" its pretty much over. And by pretty much I mean its over.
How have they not let us know yet? I mean the answer is obvious, but why wait?

Rejected. No surprise considering there are no interviews left, but still super lame.

Rejected today as well. Honestly i thought I'd get rejected sooner, so I wasn't surprised. Wayne State it is then!!

I don't know about anyone else... but my letter said that they couldn't offer me a position to the 2011 entering class...

Didn't get the rejection letter yet, but I went ahead and checked my online status.

FILE CLOSED

After careful review, it is with regret that we are unable to offer you a position in the University of Michigan Medical School's next entering class. Given the depth and strength of our applicant pool, we continue to have far more qualified applicants than seats available.
We appreciate your interest in our medical school and wish you success and satisfaction in your future endeavors.

 I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. So this is a Top 10 medical school, eh? :eyebrow:

+1. Oh well, no surprises there.

yeah i found it funny... i can say i didn't get rejected my application cycle year... just one that started 2 years ago that I didn't even apply for (glass half full point of view at least).

For people that interviewed 2/8 and 2/15: are decisions coming out today??

Sorry about the news, guys. 🙁

Hope all of you are still getting plenty of good outcomes at the other schools on your lists! 👍

Don't hold me to it, but I believe the people from my postbac class who interviewed on 02/15/ were told they would get decisions on 11 March.

Waitlist (aka squish-rejected)

Oh well, very happy with choices.

Can a current student speak about the medical fraternities Phi Rho Sig and Phi Chi? Is Phi Rho Sig primarily a party environment? Why do people choose not to live there when they provide such cheap housing?

Just took a look at the twitter feed, seems like all deferred applicants will be getting a decision on Friday 3/15. Good luck to everyone still waiting, and congratulations to accepted students.

I'm pretty sure they were talking about me. They contacted both my PI and my other mentor, who both verified every single publication (since between the two of them, they're authors on most of them). I also emailed them PDFs of every single published paper and abstract.

I have now been admitted, and I'm going to be attending in the fall.

To be fair, though, I do have a large number of publications, and am frequently greeted with disbelief regarding it. I kind of see it as a badge of honor, I guess?

I was rejected today from UMichigan; interviewed 2/15.

Obviously I'm bummed out, but also kind of surprised because the interviews went really well. Does anyone know if UMMS has an appeals process at all?

Thanks, and good luck to everyone else!

Anyone care to comment on the merit- or need-based financial aid at Michigan?
