Does anyone know if Nebraska offers student hosting for the night before the interview? I can only find information regarding discounted hotel prices.

When I interviewed last year, they never mentioned anything about student hosting so I ended up getting a hotel room. But thinking about it now, I'm really surprised that they don't have some hosting program.

And congrats to all the OOS'ers getting interviews! I'm an OOS'er myself so I'm rooting for you guys.

hey guys, is it common to appeal a preliminary rejection? does it typically have a favorable outcome? I'm not really surprised at ALL, but if a lot of people have success I feel like I should be persistent!

I had success, and according to last year's thread, the success rate was pretty high.

Ouch. So that's what rejection feels like.

Appeal submitted.
those who appealed, did you just write briefly in an email or did you write up a whole word document/etc? thanks for the responses guys I appreciate it.

The rejection message stated that the appeal should be written in an email reply, so I wrote mine as a word doc and just copied/pasted into an email. Good luck, man.

Im an OOS and I was just wondering before I pay the application fee and send in the secondary, is it even worth it too apply here as OOS? I looked at their demographics they posted from 09 and it showed only 16 OOS. Now I dont have stellar stats so I want to get peoples opinions if its even worth it to apply

You wont know if you don't try. I think there are several OOS students who appealled and were granted interviews. It seems like the underlying theme for UNMC simply is finding intelligent men and women who seriously want to go to UNMC and follow their school mission. I agree with how strict they are though. I recently had to provide notarized documentation that Im a Nebraska resident just because I did a 6 month internship in Texas. I've been here for over 7 years and all of my AMCAS experiences were in the state of Nebraska.lol. So I say go for what you really want and good luck.

Post-rejection/appeal interview invite! Very excited right now...

I'm not suposed to like this school because I'm a Badger but I can get over it 😉 for you OOSers w interviews would you mind sharing your stats?

I go to Nebraska and my girlfriend goes to UW-Madison. God, you have the worst fans ever...

Edit: As for the Hawkeye fans I'm not too worried about them due to the fact that... Well, Iowa isn't very good.

Will someone please share the link showing the hotels offering discounted rates? I remember seeing it after scheduling my interview, but now I can't find it.

Has anyone not received a secondary yet? I have been verified since the 27th and I haven't received anything yet.

I haven't. I received the payment link on 7/10 and haven't heard anything back. I'm also applying MD/PhD, so I don't know if that's why. I really really like Nebraska's program, so I hope I get a secondary!

I haven't even received the payment link yet. I am a Nebraska resident so I'm fairly sure I haven't been rejected yet 🙂

Interview next friday. I am so ready for this.

Are there any essays on this secondary?

None at all. UNMC takes a different approach to learning more about the applicant outside of the primary app. Interviews take the place of essays, which I think is an awesome idea. Hopes this helps 🙂

Oh man. So happy to be done! Anyone else there today? How about those 30-min only interviews. Lol geeze! So hard to cram several years of clinical volunteering, research, and employment opportunities into that short amount of time.

I was there today too! 🙂 I agree that it was hard to fit everything in in such a short amount of time. I just wish they'd email us our acceptance decision rather than snail mail... the sooner I know, the better!

YES! I thought to myself...SNAIL MAIL??! I hope you and I both get in. I was suprised by the fact that a most students in my group said absolutely nothing at all...as if the M4's weren't trying to get a good feel for our personalities in relation to how well we would get along with other med students. Guess they were super nervous.

Thanks for checking in guys...anyone care to elaborate on their day and especially how the interview went? I'll be in the Sept. 7 group 👍

Yes i sure can, while respecting the integrity of UNMC's interview process of course.🙂

Got there around 830 and headed over to the Sorrell Center. Its very nice and the admissions staff was extremely nice as well. We had an intro of the program, review of some of the facilities, and a tour by an M4. Interviews were either done by one or two people. I personally had two but found them very friendly and welcoming. After everyone got done with their interviews we had lunch and then the dreaded financial aid talk ( haha). The entire process was very laid back, but again I guess a lot of students were just extremely nervous😕.

In the end I just would advise anyone to just be themselves and be ready share their passion in medicine. The admissions director was extremely cool btw.Now that I think about it, all of the MD's that I met were very nice. That's a huge plus! Id be so happy if I got in via EDP.:xf:

I have my interview scheduled for October 12th!

So quiet here! Less than 2 weeks away for EDP decisions!

I think you have a solid shot at getting in, but I'm not sure "easy" is the correct word. Good luck, you'll do fine.

My concern is how important is the interview to the admission committee? It is very conversational and not medically related...just getting to know you kind of thing....

I assume you've had the interview already. I agree as it was pretty conversational. I was only asked at the end about my endeavors in terms of medicine. I was expecting more but I couldn't complain. It was mentioned to us by the associate admissions director that at that point in time all that mattered was how well they got to know us as people, and that was the focus of the interview. So I wouldn't be surprised if their decisions were heavily based on how sociable and open we were. Like above though, I'm sure you'll be fine. 🙂

I'm anxiously awaiting the EDP decisions as well 🙂

Has anyone ever heard of an EDP applicant getting flat-out rejected? I've been under the impression that usually applicants not accepted through EDP get moved to the regular applicant pool where they are accepted later.

Yep, we would just be moved to the normal pool.

Any news in the mail yet out there? I'm checking everyday here, hoping to see something by friday! :corny:

I haven't gotten anything here yet either!

Me neither. Gonna be a stressful weekend. It just hit me that these things are coming within the next few days. Time went by pretty fast. :luck:

Yep, sure has gone fast. Tomorrow or Saturday should be mail day then! :xf:

I got my acceptance letter just a couple of minutes ago. Good luck to anyone else who applied.

Congratulations!! Thanks for letting us know. Was it a big envelope?

I believe so. I haven't seen the letter yet. It got sent to my home address, not college address, but my mom said it was a big envelope.

Did you have your home address listed as your preferred address? Or was your college one listed but they sent it to your home address anyway?
