Idaho resident, 3.57 cGPA, 32Q.

Interview Completed 29th of November. The staff said that acceptances won't go out until approximately February 15th. Only 50 OOS applicants were interviewed for approximately 7 spots.

Really enjoyed the interview and the school.

Hello everyone,

I'm a 2nd year at UNSOM and I can provide you with some insight to the application process from both a traditional vs. non-traditional application point of view.

Feel free to ask me any questions, I know they changed the curriculum to systems this year, so any incoming students will be on pace with the current first years, which is always helpful.

That said, you might get different prospectives from whoever you interviewed with because of the differences in curricula. However, 3rd and 4th year are the equalizers for both curricula, so there's not much difference there.

Again, feel free to PM or reply with questions.

Does anyone know if decisions have been made for in-state applicants? I hope we start hearing back next week

I thought acceptances were sent out via certified mail? Did they change it this year?

They sent an email notifying you of the acceptance and that you should receive the official acceptance packet in the mail soon.

I was just reviewing the packet I got when I interviewed. One of their papers had stats on last year's class. It mentions 69 matriculated and 103 were accepted. I am wondering if anyone has any info on what portion of the 103 accepted were in vs. out of state applicants.

I am just trying to drive myself crazy until the adcom sends OOS acceptances next month, thank you for your help and support in my effort to do so.

hey i'm a first year at unsom.... i'm just making a guess here, but i think about 10/69 students were OOS (roughly). don't know if this helps you at all. but i definitely think they favor WICHE applicants (vs any OOS)

good luck! i know it's stressful guys

Yeah I was wondering too because I never heard anything yet ?

I thought it was every 15th of the month up til may but looks like we might have to wait until Tuesday

Its when the feds (the post office) are no longer on holiday. So since the letters would have gone in the mail on Friday, and provided they take at least 2 days, Tuesday is when they would arrive at the earliest.

A friend of mine that got accepted last month told me that Unsom emails acceptances along with a letter in the mail. I think this is the first year they have done it.

The word is they did decide on Friday, however as of yesterday they still had not mailed them. Admissions was pretty clear on the fact that they have never emailed acceptances, only snail mail.

I believe they are sending emails of acceptance for the first time this year.

Do we have any idea on when they are going to mail out letters this month? Has anyone talked to admissions?

I talked to admissions today and they said they sent out another round for Feb 15th. I just dont know of anyone who heard anything....

I guess we wait till March... anyone have a guess on how many OOS spots are left?

Yeah they said now that March 15th is their last acceptance group. So hope we all get the call. When did you interview?

Well I just got wait listed...

"It is with great pleasure (my heart stopped) that Dean Thomas Schwenk, M.D and I notify you of your designation as an alternate within the applicant pool...."

Does anyone know how long the wait list is? ugh this is killing me

You can call to see where you are on the waitlist (top, middle, bottom 1/3). Did you get it by mail or email?

Still nothing in the mail for me. Where are you from FRIDO13? Do you mind giving your stats/exp.

Talked to admissions today. They said all acceptances, wait lists, and rejections were mailed yesterday and today.

Are all types of decisions (acceptance, wait list, rejection) sent out by certified mail? Does that require a signature for delivery?

Some are sent by email.

Rejections? I thought all answers were only by written letters. I heard that acceptances were certified mail and was wondering if other types were too. Has anybody who already received an answer gotten it by certified mail?

Did anybody else waiting for a decision get a financial aid email asking for paper work?

I just called admissions and they said some decisions were mailed last week and the rest will be mailed the 15th, but the person I talked to didnt know if the decisions that were already mailed were of any particular type, i.e. acceptances or rejections, or if it was a random mix.

Does anyone know if we get a phone call when we are accepted before the email and mail? Is the feb 15 their last or we have to wait for April 15?

Yeah complete false information!!! Admissions stated nothing was sent last week and are unsure of where the rumor started. They just said the final decisions will be mailed friday march 15th.

A friend of mine who is a first year student contacted Pat Romney. She denied ever emaiing acceptances (which is weird) and said that all notifications will be sent through snail mail (which I personally prefer as I've been refreshing my email like a mad woman the past two rounds)

I've been stalking UNSOM 2017 facebook group. Of its 33 members, 2 are admins and 2 are 1st years (there may be more). That leaves about 29 accepted students/seats taken. Next year's class will be ~70 students, so that's ~ 40 more spots open? That gives me a little hope thinking that the majority of the class isn't filled.

Also, notice that there are only 7 females out of those 29 accepted students. I hope the admissions is making an effort to even out the gender difference this year (in last year's class, # of males >> # of females), so I'd like to think that maybe more acceptances will be given to females the next round?

Anyways, I'm just speculating and trying to stay optimistic. I'm a re-applicant and did exactly what UNSOM told me to do for my re-app. It's really gonna suck if I don't get in this year...

I know there has been some confusion on this forum, so I wanted to share with everyone that I did receive my acceptance TODAY at 11am PST via E-MAIL. My acceptance letter was attached to the e-mail, and I assume I will receive a hard copy in the mail. This is how most other schools work, so I assume that regardless of the lack of transparency in the admissions office--they have decided to get on board with the times. I hope this clarifies some debate, and I hope that all of you heard good news today or have it coming soon. 🙂
