The US News stats are incorrect- in the current online version the "accepted" number is the same as the number matriculated. (171)

Well, 180 matriculate. The admissions office said at my interview that 25% of those accepted choose to go elsewhere. So, 180/.75 = 240 accepted.

UNC is great in that they publish that information themselves. Since the class is supposed to be 170-180 I think JoeM would be right if you extrapolate their published info:

http://www.med.unc.edu/admit/our-students/demographics

However, I have seen a report... I want to say the old medicine in US report... that about 30 of the accepted who don't matriculate are OOS.

Just got the call from Dr. Gilliland! I interviewed 9/12. I'm bouncing off of the walls!

Congrats! Seems like lots of people with dr. Gilliand have had success. Great job!

Congrats! That makes me feel much better as I had Gilliand a few weeks after you.

Congrats!

If you don't mind me asking, did you end up sending an interest letter?

I didn't actually. My adviser recommended that I send one on November 9th but life got in the way and I never got around to it. I still tend to think that it could have a positive effect on anybody's decision if crafted carefully; I've said this before but several first years that I talked to on interview day recommended it in the event of a long wait period.

Cool, thanks!

I guess it really hasn't been that long for me. Waiting sucks though...

Tell me about it, I interviewed the first week! Not looking good...

If it makes you guys feel any better, I had to wait a total of nine weeks and freaked out when I saw that someone with my adcom who interviewed later than I did had already been accepted. I think the order in which they review applicants is totally arbitrary and unpredictable. I tried desperately to detect a meaningful pattern in this process and couldn't find one, but there's hope in that as well.

Congratulations on the acceptance...I sincerely hope we can be classmates next fall. 🙂

Have u guys who were accepted this week received ur packet in the mail ?

Has anyone who has been accepted so far had Dr. Passannante as their adcom?

Yeah, he was my adcom.

Thanks, KDizz.

I figured you got the call weeks ago, but haven't seen you around the UNC thread in a while so wasn't sure.

Do you think you'll be headed to Chapel Hill in the fall? Congrats on an awesome application cycle btw! 👍

Definitely possible. Thanks a lot! Maybe we'll be classmates next Fall 🙂

Yes, I had Dr. Toews. I feel like my interview went really well with him, but I haven't gotten a phone call yet. Hopefully soon, I'm going crazy!

Yeah same here. I thought it went well but it looks like it will be a wait.

Congrats to everyone on acceptances and interviews!!

i just wanted to ask are there any more people left on these boards who have **not** received a secondary from unc yet? i haven't and i don't know if that means a silent rejection or that i should wait and hope?

should i give 'em a call and say "hey! what's up?"

my stats are not so good (GPA: 3.4, MCAT: 32S) but i think i have decent app otherwise, i'm instate, i'm a first-time applicant.

Any thoughts?? Anything in these dire times would be appreciated! (I'm bracing myself for responses)

When were you verified? I have similar stats (3.47, 31) and got an ii in mid-sept. UNC doesn't do silent rejections and they regularly send out pre-secondary rejections so you're probably still in the running.

I actually might call if i were you . I applied a few yrs ago and they had misplaced my interview invite. They are busy and have tons of applicants. Sometimes things get mixed up and you paid AMCAS your money so that theyd look at your app so you have a right to check on it, IMO.

GUYS. I called. And they said my application was simply under review and to wait for the secondary.

I was verified in July. But they stop giving out secondary applications next month but it's rolling. I AM SO SAD. And I thought despite my average stats, I have really good recs and extracurriculars. But I guess my gpa/mcat are not what they should be. :'(

I can't imagine them not even giving you a secondary with your stats (3.4/32); that isn't even far from their mean, and above their 10th percentile. Is there something on your application that would worry them, like academic dishonesty or criminal charges or something? If not I wouldn't give up so soon, you'll probably get a secondary eventually.

I agree, being a first time, in-state applicant with your stats you should get a secondary unless there's some sort of red flag in your application that we are unaware of. Do you come from a school with a pre-med committee and/or a pre-med adviser? If so, and if there are no aforementioned red flags, it might be a good idea to have the adviser call on your behalf to ask why you haven't been offered a secondary.

I was under the (false?) impression that most of first time, instate applicants got a secondary and interview?

This year, I am thankful to live in a state with such a world-class, affordable medical school and to have had the opportunity to interview there 🙂

I submitted my secondary July 31, and still haven't heard anything. Should I be worried? I'm OOS with a 3.71 and 35.

Sent from my HTC Ruby using SDN Mobile

Anyone know how acceptance prospects start looking after Christmas? If its still crickets for me after dec. I'd be pretty worried.

I believe you are correct. In years past most in-state, first-time applicants got secondaries and interview invites unless they had terrible stats and/or any "red flags" like failing grades on a transcript or previous felony convictions. But as always, things can change from year to year.

Agree 100%! Just hope we all get the chance to go there. 🙂

Applying to UNC out of state is a total crapshoot. Wish we could give you more encouragement apart from the fact that it's not certain you've been rejected yet. Hang in there!

Unfortunately there's no way to be sure. I don't imagine it's a good sign, but then again, UNC can be notoriously slow. I'd be more worried if you see other people with your ADCOM member posting acceptances, especially if they interviewed after you. And trust me I feel the same way you do about the UNC situation haha...wish they were a wee bit quicker! 🙂

Does anyone know if they typically make calls on the Monday or later in the week?

Most calls go out on Monday, but some go out later in the week. And some people get a letter a week later, with no phone call at all.

Omg!!!! I just got a phone call from Dr. Gettes ahhhhhhhhhh 😀 I can't even believe it!!!!

For all of you waiting, I know its hard but good thing s will happen when you least expect it!!

Congrats! You're a reapp, right?

Yeah but from quite a few yes ago. My app was completely diff... I added a lot of clinical experience and really addressed the concerns they had ab my app the first time around.

Would those who got the call last night mind sharing your stats, interview dates, and adcoms?

my stats are 11,11,11, 3.89, and I interviewed on September 10th. One of my adcoms was toews and the other one was an older man but I can't remember his name!

Congrats, and thanks for sharing. This waiting game is tough!
