Probably not since there was one last Monday. Unc has biweekly adcom meetings. I think the next one will be this coming Monday.

Does anyone know like how far are they in terms of reviewing files. Has someone from who interviewed in december gotten in? I'm trying to figure out which month they are on depending on your interview.

There is no 'month' they're on. Once you've had your interview, you're constantly under active consideration. Your subcommittee looks at your file prior to every meeting.

So, technically if you are a standout applicant you can hear back after the first adcom meeting after your interview?

I know its not the right day but i got a call from a weird phone number today and before I answered I was like "oh wait. Huh? Be still, my heart." And... I finished my call with "dangit! PayPal I don't need a courtesy call." Lawsuit pending for heart damage.

hey guys,

so i have a bit of an issue. i received an ii a couple weeks ago and was scheduled for a wednesday interview in late february. however, I am OOS and noticed in the interview info they attached in the confirmation email that OOS students are only supposed to interview on Mondays and Tuesdays (aka Wednesdays are reserved for IS). im not sure if this was done simply due to lack of available space or, somewhat disturbingly, because my application was mistaken for IS when it is in fact OOS. im not sure how to proceed, because i'm (somewhat irrationally perhaps) nervous that if i point this out to ms. joni james and it is indeed an error, i may somehow get my interview revoked. any ideas/advice?

To be honest with you, I don't think they would make that mistake considering how unfriendly the school is to OOS. Along the same line if they do make that mistake, I think it would be unprofessional of them to revoke your interview invite (I highly doubt they would revoke it). Hell, you might get some "extra" points for being honest about it. I think what happened was that somebody couldn't make their interview or something (cause most of us had to schedule our interview online).

Just a thought....if they accidentally gave out the interview invite and would not give an interview if they realized that you are OOS, then odds are that they won't take your application seriously. I guess what I am saying is that it would totally suck to interview "in vain" and spend all that money to come to the school if they "accidentally" gave you an interview invite.

That said, be confident! They probably gave you an interview invite because they thought that you were baller. But, if you are paranoid, it is probably best to call and straighten things out instead of later wondering if they just interviewed you out of politeness or professionalism...its not just about where you interview, its all about where you get in, right? I say this because I have a friend who was invited for an interview at UNC and it was clear at the onset of the interview that the interviewer thought my friend's stats were a joke (he made it clear) and my friend later wished he never even had an interview because the guy had already made up his mind and was not really interviewing him genuinely/ his application was not really being considered.

Just my two cents...🙂

I know there has been mention to not update the committee with anything.. Would it look too desperate/unadvised to email my interview adcom with a quick grade update from my post-bacc/SMP plus subtly hint that i really want to attend ha? Things are starting to look slimmer and I just want to make sure there wasn't something I could have done if I come across the reject letter..

There is a subcommittee exclusively focused on evaluating OOS applicants. They are the group that select applicants for interview invites. It is highly unlikely your application was green lit for Joni (the interview coordinator) to contact you to schedule an interview by accident.

Call Joni directly and confirm with her you will be an OOS candidate interviewing on an IS day. I don't believe the interview day is any different in terms of content or structure. If UNC goofed, I'm sure they will fix it. However, do you really want to spend the time and money visiting Chapel Hill on the off chance there was a mistake and your application will not be considered seriously post-interview?

You should definitely call them about it. As others have said, if it was indeed a mistake, they'll probably find out eventually, so use that fact to your advantage...maybe earn some "points" for your honesty. Also, revocation of your interview invite seems harsh, albeit a possibility nonetheless. I bet it wasn't a mistake though; on my interview day there was a mix of in-state and out of state applicants.

Someone I know spoke to an ADCOM member last year who suggested informally emailing your ADCOM interviewer directly if UNC is your top choice. Don't send letters through the admissions office, as their stated policy is not to be receptive to updates. FWIW, I tried emailing my ADCOM directly during last year's cycle (2011-2012) and it didn't seem to help, but who knows...

EDIT: The email to the ADCOM should be either a letter of intent (UNC is my #1 choice) or a very strong letter of interest (I really really really want to go here). I wouldn't send more than one file, and don't simply send in grades or new accomplishments. Also, I'd like to emphasize that this is anecdotal, from a single ADCOM member last year; it is not the stated policy of the admissions office.

Really? this makes me nervous- I had thought it would be inappropriate/ bad form to try and have contact with an interviewer during the cycle. Am I completely wrong? I would certainly email my adcom if I thought it would help, but I'm scared to do so.

I would only do it as a hail mary; if it's getting late in the cycle and you still haven't heard anything, and UNC is your #1 (or close to it) choice.

I know of UNC adcom interviewers who give candidates their business cards for the express purpose of directly contacting them with relevant updates. As long as you are succinct and professional, I don't think there is much harm in emailing them. The worst that could happen is they disregard what you have to say. And I agree with the advice that you should avoid emailing the Office of Admissions with any letters or updates.

I think it's important that you ensure what you're sending them is worth their time and something you reasonably believe would impact their continued evaluation of your application. For example, if your UG science grades aren't great and the post-bac work is being completed to demonstrate competency in the basic sciences, then communicating new grades may be worth the effort. If you're going to explain why UNC is your top choice, be sure to provide concrete, specific examples as to why.

As for the timing, it's likely there are only three adcom meetings between February and March before they transition to constructing the waitlist. The fewer meetings that remain, the more competitive those last spots become. I wouldn't wait too long to send a letter of this sort.

hmm ok I will consider this- I don't have huge updates as I'm just lab-teching this year, but I could write a fairly committed LOI.

Thanks for the responses guys - who knows how it'll reflect

Anybody with Gettes still waiting to hear?
I am still waiting to hear from him! I interviewed January 8th and they said about 8 weeks until they respond! Hoping for the best!

Good luck to you!

Yeah I hope so. If I don't hear anything this coming Monday though I think I'll just push it aside from my mind.

I sent my hail mary LOI to Dr. Church this week. Glad that we'll all be drinking at Village Draft instead of refreshing SDN every 30 seconds this coming Monday.. .

Let me know if he responds. I emailed mine a question a while back and never got one 🙁

Sent it Wednesday- no response so far, not really expecting one though.

FWIW, I sent a thank you/LOI to Dr. Church the week after my interview via snail mail (got his mailbox # off his page). I didn't get a response from him, but I did get accepted 2 weeks later.

I sent a thank you note/loi via snail mail as well, the day after my interview. It is now 4 months later. . .

Yo wandered, you realize even if you get in, church doesn't call right?

ha yeah- that's why I usually hold out hope all the way through Saturday, and then when nothing shows up in the mailbox- lather, rinse, repeat.
Church did call someone on here once, on a Tuesday, but it doesn't seem to be the norm for him.

Did anyone else have Dr. Bashford for their interviewer? I have skimmed the thread, but have not seen any mention of him making admittance calls. Like everyone else, I am crossing my fingers I go up for review soon. Any knowledge of his adcom habits would be appreciated!

Also haven't seen my Adcom, Dr. Chesnutt, brought up in this thread. Anyone else interview with/hear from him? Interviewed in mid October

in years past, Dr. Bashford has interviewed a lot of students, more than other adcoms. Because of this, the common thought is that it takes a little longer for people to get "through" Dr. B to the Adcom and up for review.

Breathe in breathe out. It may take some time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Was accepted today. Interviewed at the beginning of January. Best phone call of my life!

Has anyone heard from dr. Houpt? Been waiting since mid-November

Congrats! That's awesome!

Do you mind sharing your interview date? (and someone already asked for who was your committee member) Thanks!

I got the call from Dr. Fowler tonight!!! I interviewed at the beginning of September, so don't give up yet 🙂
