Trying to be positive but it is getting almost impossible.... No acceptances to date. :/

Called Joni and she said te committee didn't meetlast night. Can someone else call and see?

She said she's not supposed to even tell me that there wasn't a meeting yesterday...so she didn't tell me about the next one.

I know a couple other people that got rejected via email as well. :/ Keep hanging in there #hopeforthebest

Do yesterday's rejections mean there was a subcommittee meeting this week? As opposed to an admissions committee meeting?

Are they done interviewing people? Are our fates sealed at this point or do they still have a few meetings left?

The last week of interviews was this week. If I understand it right, they have one more committee meeting on March 11th and then they will send out final accept, decline, or wait lists...but someone just said apparently they did not have the scheduled committee meeting this week. So they might be off schedule a bit. In any case, I would assume we can all expect to hear something concrete by the end of March.

On last year's thread it looks like all admissions offers were made by mid march, and then everyone else was waitlisted or rejected on April 4. So there are maybe 1-2 more meetings from which acceptances will result.

I hate to add to the speculation, but March 11 falls during the University's Spring Break. In years past, they did not meet during the break or make phone calls that Monday.

I am wondering if they will meet on March 4 or March 18 instead, but I bet we will all have an acceptance, wait list, or rejection by early April.

Yeah I'm thinking maybe they'll have a meeting on both the 4th and 18th instead of this week and the spring break week, and that we should know at the beginning of April where we actually stand.

From what I know as per AMCAS rules all schools have to offer all of their seats by March 31st.

I don't want to add to the speculation, but speculating was all I could do when I was waiting to hear back! Second look is scheduled for the 23rd and I cannot help but imagine that they would give the bulk of the class at least a one week heads up for attending.

I just want to know how many acceptances they actually have left to give out... Considering second look is the 23rd?

Ahhh. Trying to stay positive.

I feel like Dr. Houpt hasn't been mentioned very much on here...

I found the second look letter searching on google (obsessive, I know)...

It was dated February 19, stated second look was march 23, and to RSVP by today, march 1st...

Does that mean the rest of us are wait listed or rejected? Why would they have the RSVP date for today if they have not handed out all of the acceptances?

Second look last year was around the same time (~March 24th) so presumably the letter for it was also sent in February, and there were acceptances through March. It seems like they are on a similar schedule this year so I'm guessing we should see some more acceptances this month.

According to one of their first year medical students, they only have 5 more spots to give... So much for that.

I think UNC sees good wait list movement most years. It's not over until you guys get a rejection. Stay positive !

do they? if I'm waitlisted and have to hold off on planning a move etc until the last moment, that will be brutal. which is why it will probably be how this all goes down.

* of course, it's UNC, so they won't give any info on where you are on the waitlist, how long it is, or whether there's a reasonable chance vs snowball's chance in hell that you're getting in off of it.

So does that mean they have 5 spots left until they've given out as many acceptances as they have seats (160)? Or 5 spots left total?

Does anyone know if they initially accept more than the class size or do they just accept 160 and send everyone else to the wait list to pull from as some of the accepted students decline admission? I was under the impression that most schools accept more than their class size even before making a waitlist.

From my understanding, it was 5 spots total, including initially accepting more. But, that info could always be wrong.... That girl definitely ruined my Friday night.

Well then, that's unfortunate.

Don't give up hope! 🙂 The facebook group isn't necessarily a valid indicator of how many acceptances there are, but it may be worth mentioning that there are only 100 members currently, 10 of which are current MS1's. I know everyone isn't connected to facebook, but I find it hard to believe that 80ish people have been accepted and haven't joined the group (especially since it seems that the MS1's are proactive about inviting accepted students to the group!).

I didn't think I would get accepted to UNC (so-so interview, rejected at ECU), but I got the call mid february and I bet some of you will as well 🙂.

IS 34 3.45/3.61 and I forget who my adcom was. I interviewed Dec 4, accepted Feb 11.

Is there an adcom meeting tomorrow? Bc if not then the next Monday is during uncs spring break.

Don't give up hope! How would an MS1 know how many spots are available anyways? Sounds like guesstimation more than inside information.

wondering this as well. Also we heard a month or two ago that they had been going really slow this cycle. So either they really picked it up and accepted a ton of people recently, or something we've heard isn't entirely accurate. Trying to be optimistic haha

Considering it's ranked #2 in primary care for a fraction of what private med schools charge with a great campus and research opportunities as well, UNC doesn't see as much wait list movement as nearby schools like Wake Forest and ECU. They're making us wait because they can...sucks but it's just how it is.

Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to all of y'all still waiting, don't give up yet!
