And why do you think so?

If you apply for it and have to write the 'Why SELECT?' essay, you will find out real quick why it is worth it. Also, email Mr. Houder to get info that isn't on the website. I would list everything that is so good about it, but I am too tired.

I know a lot about the program (I'm a USF undergrad 😎). My question wasn't implying it isn't great or it doesn't offer a lot, I am just genuinely curious as to why an in-stater wants to pay OOS tuition for the program and what they think they will get out of it that they cannot at USF during clinical years.

How many characters are you all using in your essays.

For the career choice question, I've only used about 1000 characters but I've said pretty much everything I want to say. Should I try to think of some more points to talk about or should I leave it as is.

I used close to 2000 for each, but if you think it is good as it is then by all means submit. However the more unique info you can give the better.

1500 for most of my essays. If you can make it better by making it longer I would do that.

Applied EDP, submitted secondary on Friday morning (they sent me an extension, not sure if anyone else got it too?) Spoke with school a while after submitting because residency paper still said not received. They said they were having problems with that, but it was in their system as received... so I shouldn't worry.
Also said I'd be hearing back about interviews either this week or next. For some reason I didn't expect it to be so soon! So nervous! 😎

I used about 1900+ characters for all of the essays except one, which I used 1600. I'd say if you gave a good in depth response though, anything above 1000 should be acceptable.

Bulls09 - My residency papers aren't showing that they have been received, but they did e-mail me saying they got them.

Just wanted to double check and make sure I wasn't missing this anywhere, but USF does not ask for a photo anywhere, correct?

Can anyone share the prompt for the secondary?

Here is a list of prompts:
1. What do you see as the most likely practice scenario for your future medical career? Private Practice. Health Policy. Academic Medicine. Public Health. Health Care Administration. Why do you feel you are particularly suited for this practice scenario? What knowledge, skills and attitudes have you developed that have prepared you for this career path?

2.The USF College of Medicine’s Scholarly Concentrations program aims to support the educational development of medical students by providing opportunities for academic endeavors in areas of special interest. This program facilitates self-directed learning, enhances interactions between students and fosters relationships between students and faculty. Scholarly concentrations provide a forum where diversity of ideas and perspectives are valued. Each concentration includes elements of course work, practical application and scholarly presentation. How would the USF Morsani College of Medicine’s Scholarly Concentrations Program help your personal career goals?

3.Describe a time in your life when you felt you were “at your best." Why did you choose this event, and how does it reflect your potential as a physician?

4.The University of South Florida, College of Medicine strives to educate a very diverse set of students who bring a variety of strengths and interests to the field of medicine. The definition of diversity is broad and includes (but is not limited to) lifestyle, race/ethnicity, geography, socioeconomic status and distance traveled through life. The definition of strength is also broad and includes (but not limited to) humanism, scholarship, intellectual curiosity, research and leadership. How do you feel your particular experiences, interests, and passions will add to the strength and diversity of the USF class and ultimately to the field of medicine?

5.Describe your ideas about how the medical profession can best respond to disparities in healthcare.

6. Who is the best leader you have known in your life? Describe what made her or him so effective and how they made you feel when you were around them.

7.Think about a person who has helped you the most in your life. Describe what they did and said, and the lasting impact they have had on you.

All have a 2000 character limit.

Secondary seems like quite a beast to me. Good luck to everyone!

Can anyone share the prompt for the secondary?

here

Thanks, Crunk! I guess I missed it. I'll be pissed if I don't get a secondary and I finish this one!

No problem! Yeah it's a beast, but I think I saw someone say earlier that there is no screen and everyone gets a secondary!

I would call them Monday and asks whats up. They told me everyone gets a secondary

Well I'm not verified yet...should I get one right when I submit my application even though I'm not verified yet?

Once you are verified, AMCAS will send your app to the schools you chose. Then after USF receives it, you should get a secondary

Right, that's what I figured. Thanks, Mike!

Np! Submitted secondary today for both Core and SELECT. Now the wait game...

How long does it take for them to receive the residency form? I submitted it through the secondary but its been a week and not received.

Call/email them. Mine showed "not received" for two weeks until I emailed them to confirm. They updated it online the next day.

They never updated mine, but I still got an invite for an interview. Mine is the 18th.

Mine never got updated either. I heard its a computer glitch cuz I still recieved an email saying my app was complete.

Are you EDP or 7-year?

I'm 7 year. Judging by interview dates I've seen, I'm thinking they put EDP interviews together and 7 years together.

Yeah, thats how they did it last year, but I wasn't sure if there were EDP interviewing on the 11th and 18th

Although I got an email saying that they have received all my secondary materials, my status page still shows incomplete because im missing the residency forms. I uploaded the residency form on the site when i was submitting my secondary. Is anyone else in the same situation?

I was in the same situation, but after two weeks or so it changed. I wouldnt contact them, theyll get around to it on their own

hey, does the character limit include spaces or not?

So when it says "your application is ready", there isnt much else I can besides sit and wait? I never did get a complete email tho.

I would go along with what accmd said and just wait. It took some time for me to get my complete email and took even longer for the website to show that my residency document was received. They marked the document according to the date I submitted it and not according to the date that the status was updated so as long as your stuff is in you should be fine.

Interview was today. Absolutely loved the place! PM me if you have any questions about the interview!

How long was the actual interview? Approximately how many questions? And of course if you remember questions themselves that would be helpful! 🙂

How was your comfort level with the questions and was it overall pleasant?

One interview was around 30 minutes long. She asked the typical questions that you would expect at any interview (why medicine? why USF? tell me about research/volunteering/family, what patient you observed affected you the most?)

The other interview was the full 1 hour. He asked the above questions and then some new ones. Some concerned problems with certain aspects of medicine I shadowed and how they correlate to other areas of medicine I observed, another was what common denominator did all the physicians I shadowed share, what I like to do in my spare time, neither of them asked situational or very difficult questions that I had to stop and think about for a second.

The one thing in common between the two interviewers was that both interviews were very conversational and they were both very friendly. The whole day the administration and current students told our group to not worry about the interview, that it is very relaxed, and it turned out that is exactly how it was. At the beginning of the day you get a packet that includes who your interviewers are and what they practice/are interested in. Before your interviews you can ask the admissions staff about your interviewers and they tell you their general tendencies. I know that one interviewer likes to keep things brief and to the point, so their interviews tend to only last 20 minutes. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

How are their facilities/Campus?

The campus from the exterior is not to impressive, mostly yellow brick, not my favorite. But the facilities on the inside are for the most part all brand new. The auditorium, gross anatomy labs, and small group learning areas are very, very nice. The Shimberg Library I don't think is one of the newly renovated facilities, but nonetheless it is nice also. There is a computer lounge with free printing if you bring your own paper, nice gym, outdoor courtyards, and a student lounge. CACL (center for advanced clinical learning) is awesome! I didn't get to see the new CAMLS building, since it is downtown, but the video they showed us made it look quite impressive. While I was there they showed where the new Morsani building will be, but I don't think I will get to utilize it in my pre-clinical years since they haven't broken ground on the building yet.

Word on USF campus is that the new Morsani building will be ready for the 2013 entering class. Not sure if this is still the timetable though.
