I'm definitely calling them right after their match to check my status and express my continued interest. I don't mind packing up and leaving my state. I need a change and new adventure. 😀

I'm still a little confused about the Match process. I ranked UTMB first and a pre-match at another school second.

So if I'm waitlisted at UTMB after Feb. 1, how long do they have before they let me know I'm accepted/rejected?

If its not til summer is it also possible at that point to ask to be removed from the waitlist and then just matriculate at my prematch?

June 1 is the deadline for any Texas medical school to remove you from a waitlist if you are already accepted at another Texas school (ie, your pre-match). If you don't hear back by June 1 then it is already understood that you will not be getting off anymore waitlists. You do not need to ask to be taken off any waitlist if you just want to matriculate at your pre-match school.

To add to what Boricua said, I believe you also are given a decision period if you come off a waitlist. So, if you match to #1, you have to go there. But if you match to #2 and come off #1's waitlist later, as I understand, you don't have to accept that offer. I think it's to be sensitive to people who might have already begun apt/job/etc hunting.

This is true. After Feb 1st, and the match algorithm has run its course, it becomes rolling admissions until May 15- after which time you cannot have >1 acceptance.

Like the pre-match period, you will be given a 2-week time allotment to either decline or accept additional invitations which, of course, will be inclusive to any schools ranked higher than your best match. You may hold multiple acceptances during this time and are not considered "commited" to any one school unless (a) you match/pre-match your #1 ranked school or (b) the deadline to hold >1 acceptance passes (May 15).

After June 1, schools can only offer seats to applicants who've yet to be accepted anywhere - this may happen as late as the first week of classes.

Just curious if anybody knows how many spots schools leave open for the match. Is UTMB match heavy? Also, do most people get either their number 1 or number 2 in the match?

I went to a presentation by one of the deans a couple of years ago, and at that time, he said they got about 80% via prematch and 20% match.

It seems from looking at last year's thread that there were a ton of prematches too...so it could be possible that 80 percent are prematches and 20 are matches. I am hoping that is not the case though as UTMB is my first choice and I have not prematched.

That was straight from Dr. Rabek, but like I mentioned, it was a couple of years ago. Also, that does not account for wait list movement, just initial selection.

Chin up. I'm sure there are many more acceptances to come!

A lot of people who prematch don't matriculate. Many people who prematch do so at multiple schools and also apply out of state. From talking to my classmates, most of them matched here.

Don't get all worked up, y'all have a good chance to match.

Well it might be impossible to find, but that isn't that big of an issue since it is irrelevant. What we do know is that UTMB sends out lots of prematches, what determines whether those people matriculate there or if they pick up more people from the match depends on whether those people accept the pre-match offers or go elsewhere. This has to do with a variety of factors and is bound to change every cycle so the best thing to do is keep your fingers crossed and try not to stress too much. It's out of your hands for now.

PS-I ranked another school I prematched at higher, so there's at least going to be one spot out there. 🙂 I hope you get it!
 
Ok guys, few words of wisdom:

1. Check your email at midnight. If you matched you may have an email from UTMB (how they notified us last year)
2. The official results are listed on TMDSAS around 8 am but don't be surprised if they are late.

And if right at 8am your results say "Did not match" don't panic and tell everyone you didn't get in like I did... Instead refresh the screen or re-login a few minutes later, a few times, and you might find things have changed. Happened to me... Turns out UTMB match list just wasnt completely uploaded yet:laugh: funny now at least... Lol

I got accepted and utmb is the only place I interviewed

So if we didn't get the email it means we didn't match I am assuming...I looked on my TMDSAS page and all it says is "The deadline for entering or editing your school preference rankings has passed. Please return to this page on Friday, February 01, 2013 to view your match results. "

I'm so incredibly sad right now. I really wanted to go to UTMB. I prematched elsewhere and I know I'm extremely lucky to have a spot waiting for me at another school, but I ranked UTMB #1 for a reason. Anyone know about the waitlist movement here? Will contacting someone in the admissions office help at all?
 
I have a 3.82 GPA

MCAT 32M 14P 11B 7V

I have some research and shadowing and I am 18
UTMB was my only interview this season I got in so keep your hopes up

Congrats everyone! And don't forget about waitlist movement. I literally talked to someone yesterday in the class above me who got into UTMB one month before the first day. Now they are matched to a competitive speciality at an excellent school. Never, ever give up 🙂

Well I just got the email stating I'm on the "Unranked" alternate pool list. Oh well! If I don't hear anything by the time I sign a lease on an apartment then I will withdraw from the school. I guess i dont have to call them now. I hate wanting something and not being able to get it. It's a terrible feeling. Congrats to those accepted!

I got the same email and am OOS as well. Anyone have any idea how many OOS applicants are on this list (or is it simply everyone who hasn't been accepted yet..)? It also said applicants holding an acceptance at any other school on June 1st will be withdrawn from this list. Does that include AMCAS schools or only TMDSAS schools?

I got the same email. I am IS. I think all interviewed students but not accepted got this email because the pool seems too large.
