Read through the thread. It's good.

Just got this.

The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are unable to grant an interview, you will be notified by e-mail in March.

Is this some new breed of status? Good chances, bad? Or do we not know?

Edit :Haha I had skipped over the previous page somehow. I see what it means (or hypothesized to mean).

YAYYY buddy, you are likely to get accepted given that status was shown early this cycle. Rock your interview and you are in 🙂

Hey everyone, I was complete on July 16th 2012. I see people who submitted later than I have got status changes from the "may" to " reservations". When should I hear from them?

I submitted 7/12 and am still not complete. They have only downloaded 2 of my 6 letters... I sent them an email and they said they are busy and the letters should be downloaded eventually...

I just got the further status. Does anybody know how long after that status change applicants got interviews in past years? Or does that status mean really late interviews ending in waitlist

when were you complete? I was complete in July 16th and still no status change.

That status is a pure toss up. You will likely get interviewed but close call between acceptance and wait list.

I was complete 7/25. And I hope it does mean an interview.

Just got an interview!! IS 30/3.55. Had the further status before

They're scheduling interviews on a Saturday evening?

Yea it was a nice surprise lol. I was complete on 7/13

Just got the further status ... complete 7/30

I hit submit on 07/18/12, not a status update since. They got my LORs on 07/26/2012.

Yo pfaction, did you apply MD/PhD here ? I just wanted to ask whether the MD/PhD section indeed contains only 1 question about the publication. I just want to double-check to make sure my version didn't have any sort of missing error, such as missing the supp essay prompt that had occurred earlier in July.

It has been since July 16th I have had a complete status. No status change since. Please answer why?

I've been complete since 7/11 and haven't heard a peep from VCU...might give them a call today

I think I did but it was so long ago I forgot if they had questions or not.

For those complete without II, let us know how it goes?

I only have the publication question in addition to the medical secondary. There's also some reference form that we have to turn in as well.

Congrats on the early interview!

I got one too!! Why didn't I get a congrats 🙁

Haha on a slightly more serious note: do you know anything about fmstat, flodhi? good? bad?

Thank you. So it seems my online supplemental app works fine now.

Regarding to the reference form, the writer needs to send it to the MD/PhD Office address, not the Admissions Office right ?

Congratulations to you too! Sorry I didn't read the entire thread just skimmed through it. I think the program is good if you're absolutely dead set on primary care (Family medicine). However, if you're not absolutely sure and want to leave yourself open to other specialties then I would not do it. I personally didn't do it even though I intend on going into primary care because I don't know I might enjoy something a lot more come 3rd year of medical school! Just leaving my options open instead of restricting it.

Does anyone know if OOS students at VCU can be considered IS after the first year or two (provided they live in Virginia the whole time)? This would be a major factor in my decision to go here (if I get interviewed and accepted of course:xf:). Congratulations to the people who have received interviews!

No, OOS students pay OOS for 4 years sorry. It's not impossible to transition but very hard and rarely happens.
IS COST OF ATTENDANCE for M1, M2, M3 and M4 $55,453, $57,276 , $62,718, $ 58,103 respectively. For OOS COA is 15k higher. It's $ 70,411 , $ 72,234 , $ 77,676 , $ 73,336. Cost of attendance for OOS is approximately 60 k higher excluding factors such as interest, flights back home etc..

Ouch! Looks like I'll be ~$350,000 in debt if I end up at VCU (med school+undergrad debt)! :scared: Oh well, guess I'll just have to specialize or figure out some alternative ways to finance my education if I do primary care. In North Carolina, out of state students can pay in state tuition after their first year! To be fair though, it is really difficult to get into UNC as an OOS applicant, and literally impossible to get into ECU as an out of state applicant. Thanks for the information!

Complete around July 19th... however, no email of a committee review status.

Perhaps I iz a rejekt?

Hello. I just received an interview invite to VCU! I was wondering if anyone is doing the Inova Campus tour? I am from northern VA and have done a lot of volunteering at Inova Fairfax hospital. Do you think that it will make a difference to my chances if I go to the Inova Campus tour?

Do your letter of recommendations need to be submitted to receive a secondary from VCU/MCV?

does VCU hand out their IS interviews first? I had the MAY status.

Congrats! Do you mind sharing what status you had before the II?

It will not make a difference in your regular admission but possibly to your iNOVA selection. Regular admission to MD is strictly based on your score and committee voting.
I was selected to iNOVA and according to admissions it's first come, first serve. If you marked Inova preference in your secondary application and get accepted to VCU early then most certainly will get into iNOVA program. Factors such as prior experience and family can help if you get accepted to VCU medical school but wait listed for the iNOVA program.

Does the "we have reservations" status mean rejection??

Does the "we have reservations" status mean rejection??

I have this status as well.

From previous years, it is most likely a rejection in waiting. An interview is still possible wtih this status but from skimmng previous years threads, it seems that even with an interview, an acceptance is still unlikely.

I was complete on 7/30 and haven't received any status changes. Hopefully I'l get some sort of news within the next week.

IS applicant.

What/when is the Inova Campus Tour?

The pre-matriculation program is very beneficial. I guarantee you that most of our incoming class will feel traumatized the first couple weeks by the overwhelming material thrown at them. The pre-mat program well does that to you so you're used to the pressure during the regular year, you've taken quizzes and exams (know the format/structure). It also helped me with adjusting to the new environment including Richmond. The professors are very nice, you will meet Dr. Krieg soon who will be our Anatomy professor. He's very knowledgable and challenges the students by randomly asking them questions. Biochemistry professor is different from the regular year due to whatever reason. The pop med instructor is a pHD that I think will also be teaching during the regular year. Everyone is very supportive but you really need that in such a vigorous academic environment. Your best friends will be Mrs. Jackson and Dr. WHC, they will provide you with wonderful resources. The students are helpful, study together and no one is cut throat.

Hey pal, how does Gross Anatomy resemble/differ from undergraduate Human Anatomy and Physiology?

Hey pal, how does Gross Anatomy resemble/differ from undergraduate Human Anatomy and Physiology?

1 semester of undergrad Anatomy and A LOT more easily crushed in about 1 and half week of medical school (that's how it was in my pre-matriculation program which is the same exact pace as our regular school and taught by the same professor). You will hear this analogy a lot from medical students, medical school is like drinking water from a fire hydrant which is true but not too hard 😉
The thing is though that you get used to it and start picking up on it quickly. All you have to do is put in the effort and hard work.

Do your letter of recommendations need to be submitted to receive a secondary from VCU/MCV?

No. Mine didn't arrive to AMCAS until 7/26 and I was sent a secondary a week or two before that.
