Regarding the waitlist offer - why are they asking us if we hold a seat at another school or not? If we do surely that wont change out odds of getting off the WL right?
I'm wondering the same thing... If I currently hold a DO acceptance, will reporting this decrease my odds of getting off the WL?

am I missing something? From that document, I gathered that the offers are given based on rank only until June 1st, at which point they’ll only give A’s to those without any other offers. So holding another seat isn’t a pro nor a con until June 1st
From what I can tell under wait list protocol, May will be for those with a seat elsewhere and June for those without

I don’t think that’s what it’s saying. It’s just saying that May is for people who haven’t committed anywhere, but “MAY hold a seat elsewhere”. You’re not excluded if you hold a seat elsewhere, nor if you don’t.

I didn't know that. I feel like that's a bit unfair for those of us with no As

Ya I think its more a logistical thing more than anything as people who hold another offer need to know if they should commit to that offer or not. But I can also see how it is seen as somewhat unfair

IIRC past SDN threads seem to back this up; i do believe i saw someone report a May A who said they didn’t have As elsewhere

but i may be misremembering

@lobachevsky wins the prize for best reading comprehension 👌🏻
I think their WL is pretty big and they are still adding to it. They will only go to the WL after gaps are made by people withdrawing in favor of other admissions

I selected currently hold a seat at another school, but it is a DO school. The document posted notes "as indicated by the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) report data" so would holding a seat at a DO school not apply? Should I send an email?

apparently it’s kind of a plus unfortunately I have no other As
i'm confused can you explain how this is a plus? I don't know what to make of it like are they trying to trick us? I have multiple A's but said no on the form, cause I read it as if you pick the second option you're still interested but you have other options too so it's almost like ur trying to secure a spot but ahve other options??

if you read it as ONLY people with another seat will be offered a seat in May, it would be a plus, because you’d be more likely to get a seat (due to May WL movement being higher than June), and it’s better to hear earlier obv.

But AFAIK that’s not what the doc means.

so is there an advantage or disadvantage to picking either option? It makes it seem (second bullet point), that applicants who have not committed elsewhere but have seats are looked at first?

Waitlist protocol:
• Offers made from the waitlist March 16 – April 30, use rank order list as described above
• Offers made from the waitlist May 1 – May 30, use rank order list, considering only applicants who have not committed to another institution but may have a seat elsewhere, as indicated by the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) report data
• Offers made from the waitlist on or after June 1 through the VCU Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) deadline, will be made using rank list, considering only applicants who have no seat, as indicated by the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) report dat

it seems like they strictly go by rank order list until June 1 at which point they no longer consider those with other As.

i believe they say “may have a seat elsewhere” (May) to indicate that they give As to people who may or may not have a seat, in contrast to later on (June) when it is only those who do not.

and the separation of March/April and May in different bullets is to indicate that people who have committed to enroll elsewhere will not be considered after April 30. but the protocol for those with vs without other As does not change between April & May (unless you are committed elsewhere) — just between May & June

this is my take anyway, not an adcom obviously lol

That’s kinda how I read it too. I think the CYMS data is basically just used as a filter, not to change the rank list itself??

So March–April they go straight down the list regardless of other acceptances. May they still use rank order but skip anyone who has Commit to Enroll somewhere else. Then starting June 1 they only consider people who don’t hold a seat anywhere?

I was mostly trying to figure out when holding another A would actually stop them from considering me. From what you’re saying it sounds like that wouldn’t matter until June unless I commit somewhere else earlier.

Hold on guys. Is it a requirement by AAMC that only holding one A by end of April? If that will be the case, what is the matter holding multiple As at this time for WL?

A WL is not the same as an A
If a school sees you are still holding 3As at the end of April, they might tell you to choose it or lose it.
Use your time NOW to research your schools so you can make a wise choice. You might have to make this decision before knowing about scholarships

Sorry, I just realized someone could hold one A from another school but still waiting with VCU WL after May 1st.

Current M1 here, not sure when it’ll be this fall but our first day of orientation was 7/21, white coat was 8/1, first day of actual classes/biochem was 8/11. I don’t think the fall schedule is finalized/posted yet but that should probably be coming up soon
Could I ask when financial aid came out for your year?

I got accepted super late in late June so I’m not entirely sure if it came out before that. I didn’t get any merit based aid but my student loans were disbursed shortly after the semester started in late July
