Has anyone still figured out that link to the lunch survey on the confirmation email for those of us who are interviewing in September?

I emailed and they said it was sent by accident. You should email them if you have any dietary restrictions.

Congrats to those with interview invites. For those who got invited or are students right now at columbia, did you all upload a CV? I don't really have any new information to put on there other than all the things outlined on my primary AMCAS. Thanks in advance

I did not upload a CV.

just out of curiosity, how many people are filling out the "what else would you like us to know" section and if you dont mind, what general things are you mentioning? Im pretty sure they have heard plenty of how applicants believe they are really hard working and whatnot, so I am not sure if including something like that is better than leaving it blank. Just want some insight, thanks in advance

Don't feel obligated to post anything, it is mostly for people who have circumstances that they need to explain.

I understand we want to submit these things ASAP, but when is it too late to submit?

Has anyone else not received a complete confirmation email? I submitted my secondary beginning of August / letters were received in July. I have three green checkmarks on the status page, but it doesn't say "complete" anywhere. Should I be worried?

hi guys, does anyone with an II know which days P&S usually has interview dates

I keep getting this message when I'm trying to upload my CV:

Error: String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated.

Does anyone know how to get around this? Thank you!

that happened to me. are you trying ot upload a .doc file? i changed it to a pdf and afterwards it uploaded without any issues!

Awesome, thank you! Will try converting it and uploading again. =)

Interview Invite earlier today. Wish I could schedule it this week as I am in New York for the week. Oh well. Guess I gotta save some more money for the next flight!

Just posted an 'in the area' update. Heres to being hopeful!

Are you applying bassett or mdphd or phdmd? These programs have less interview days and are often fridays. Md interviews are m to th or m to fri depending on the week.

I was applying Bassett, but got the II for the standard curriculum, which may be the reason for this.

Might actually be worth mentioning? If they ever have any cancellations they could keep you in mind.

EDIT: Just saw an adcom post that in the area emails from nearby residents are annoying, so don't do that...

We want to make sure that you are aware of your option to apply to our popular, exciting, and highly-competitive Columbia-Bassett Program which is now entering its fourth year. This is a track of the MD program for 10 students per year, who will spend their 18 pre-clinical months in New York City, their Major Clinical Year at Bassett Health Care in rural, upstate Cooperstown, New York, and then have the option to spend the final 14 months of medical school in either or both places. Program participants will receive $30,000 per year in grant funding.

If you are interested and would like to learn more about the program, please visit www.columbia-bassett.org. There is still time for you to apply, if you act quickly.

All applicants to the Columbia-Bassett Program will also be considered for the regular MD program. There is no additional fee for applying to this track.

To apply, upload one essay answering the question "What aspect of Columbia-Bassett has the most appeal to you?" Upload the document through https://apply.med.columbia.edu with the document name of "Columbia-Bassett Essay." If you upload the essay under a different title, we will be unable to consider you for the Columbia-Bassett program.

Please note: Your application is under active consideration by the Admissions Committee. Changing your program from regular MD to the Columbia-Bassett track will not affect your application to either program.

Please contact us at 212-305-3595 or [email protected] if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
P&S Admissions

I got it too.

Same here.

Can anyone comment on their thoughts about taking advantage of this program? I initially wrote it off because part of my motivation for applying to Columbia is getting a taste of intensely-urban medicine. If I wanted rural medicine I would aim for one of the smaller midwest state schools near my family.

Then again, it may be incredibly beneficial to do first 1.5 years in NYC then take a year to study in a rural setting and experience the high patient/community connection. They also give you the option of spending much of 4th year back in the city... Is this a program aimed at students who specifically want to end up practicing rural medicine or are students who don't yet know (like me) also applying?

Got it too.
How long should the essay be? elsewhere online it says 750 characters but on the email there was no limit specified.

Finally got the Bassett email heart attack today... I even knew it was coming! inbox [1] gets me every time.

Ah.. seriously.... I saw the email notification with the @psadmissons on my taskbar and got all excited...

Come Columbia! Give me some real good news!

Can anyone confirm the word limit for the Bassett essay? It doesn't appear to be posted anywhere.

Thanks!

we interview all day errday, but that doesn't mean a given day will be available when your particular II goes out. some random days are reserved for md-phd and bassett

i remember being in this boat many many moons ago.

columbia was far and away my first choice and i am very very happy to have attended there. i would not make a different decision if i had to go through the process again. both columbia's curriculum and just being a clinical clerk (in general) in new york city will put you at a distinct advantage when residency -- especially intern year -- rolls around. even if that seems somewhat far away now, believe me, it isn't. you want to be the intern or resident who others turn to because you've placed x,y,z line/tube/drain before. believe you me, no one wants to be the intern calling their chief at 2am because a patient's NGT fell out and they've never put one in before. that's a somewhat silly (but true) example all to say that columbia will prepare you well, both academically and clinically, for whatever field of medicine you wish to pursue.

i don't come in here often anymore, but always feel free to PM if you have any questions (although mmmcdowe seems to do a pretty awesome job of fielding your inquiries).

good luck guys!

got the email for columbia bassett and submitted the essay. Then another heart attack today when columbia responded and said that they received my columbia bassett essay application.
