2013-2014 Florida International University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Status finally changed to "Admissions Committee Scheduled." Hopefully I hear from them sooooooon!

Mine changed yesterday too and I interviewed 10/25! For those who have been accepted after an interview would you be able to let us know how long your app was at this status or how long before you got your decision after this point? I think at my interview they said our apps could be at this status for 4-6 weeks, but I am not sure... Just trying to get an idea of the time line to expect. THANK YOU!!!

Hmm...so I thought I sent a message already. Guess not!

Accepted this morning! IS; LizzyM = 70. Interviewed on 10/21.

My status said "Admissions Committee Decision Complete" or something along those lines since Tuesday and I got the email/phone call this morning (Thursday)! "Admissions Committee Scheduled" was on last Tuesday.

You did! For some reason SDN deleted every post from early this morning until about 15 or so minutes ago.

I interviewed the same thing and haven't heard anything :/

To people that interviewed at FIU: what did you like about it?

I was a little put off on my interview day to be honest. Most of the students that I met didn't seem too serious. One guy kept going on about all the concerts that he attends right before exams and I heard more than a few "well... this was the only place that I got in". I like the general enthusiasm of new schools, but it really felt like FIU med was an extension of the undergraduate college and not a graduate school.

I was curious if anyone else had a similar experience.

I interviewed early sept and have had the admissions review complete status since early October and still no word! I emailed them and they said I am somewhere on the list, but that really a final decision has not been made. So apparently it's best not to read into that status too much.

I liked my interviewers and I like how organized the interview day itself was (trust me they aren't all as professional). I personally don't think it's too bad that this was the only acceptance for a few people considering the average stats of the University. They stick close to the national avg (~3.7, ~31) and they had 100% residency placement for their first graduating class. I think that this school is a great option, but there are obviously more prestigious schools out there, so if that's important to you than it's something to consider I suppose.

I did see (and hear) a loud and obnoxious student talking about a bunch of stupid stuff while I was there, but I have seen one of those at pretty much every school I have interviewed at. I think that is just one of the personality types that is sometimes attracted to medicine. They talk about all of the extraneous stuff to show how smart they are because it shows that they can do whatever they want and still do well in medical school. I say, if that was the only thing you didn't like, don't worry about it. You will probably have at least one of those guys in your medical class pretty much wherever you go in my opinion.

Interviewed here November 15...Absolutely loved everything and everyone. Had some really interesting conversations with my interviewers..I'd say they're one of my top choices after the interview day.. if they'll have me 🙂

I'm willing to chalk it up to a bad sample size, but I'll definitely be attending the second look weekend if accepted.

Speaking of, anyone have USNWR acceptance from interview info?

Can anyone give me some information about the questions they asked during interviews this year and about the general experience? This is my first ever interview and I am extremely nervous and I would appreciate some help 🙂

Check out the interview info page on here. That should help. I didn't get any weird questions though.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! When did your status change to "admissions committee complete"? Was it today or a few groups ago?

Was just accepted via e-mail. Shocked because I interviewed 9/17 and hadn't heard a peep since AND because I wasn't sure how I handled getting grilled on some ethical stuff by one of my interviewers.

Accepted! IS mid 30s MCAT >3.5 GPA. Interviewed on 10/28. Admissions committee completed this morning.

Congratulations to all of you guys! 🙂 I was also accepted today. My interview was on 10/28.

Would you share your stats?

Sure thing... I am a non traditional student though so I am not sure it will translate as well but... IS, 32 MCAT, 3.3 GPA undergrad, 3.8 GPA medical masters program.

hello! I'm interviewing here next Monday 12/9, and was wondering at around what time does the day end? I know the email says approx 5pm, but just wanted to check if anyone had a more precise time. Thank you!

Sorry if this has been asked but does FIU accept letters of interest?

They told me they only accept updates to the application. There is a limit of three updates that you can make.

Interviewed today and loved it!

Other interviewees were really cool. Big thanks to the girl that gave me the ride back to my hotel as well
