Yay. 9/4/13 interview date. Driving down with my dad. Wondering if it is OK to ask other schools in the area to consider me for an interview around this date. It would save an 8-10 hour car drive.

Similar situation, I have an interview at GW and want to send an in the area email to Georgetown but have only been complete since 7/30. How long to wait vs how much notice to give them?? (Interview date is in mid-September)
 
hey I have an interview at Georgetown and I'm in a similar situation. My drive is around the same time. When you send these "in the area" emails do you have to tell them the name of the school you were invited for an interview?

I'm a new applicant here and didnt even know what we could do this.

My drive is 8-10 hours as well and I would want GW to consider me at that point too. I wonder if this applies to schools in the NY area as well 😛
 
I'd say just write that you're in the area and interested in hearing whether this is an update regarding your application. Even just suggesting that you'd like to take it as an opportunity to visit the school while you are in the area, and seeing if there is an opportunity for you to do so. GW's first interviews are on Sept 5 so my guess is that that day and probably most of the other days through med Sept. are already booked. Always worth a shot, though! Good luck.

I sent an in the area email on 7/25 and received a II from Georgetown yesterday, 7/31. I had previously asked my health adviser how long to wait before reaching out to the office of admissions and he advised me to contact them ASAP.

When you were complete at Georgetown though btw?? I may wait until next week since I've only been complete a few days now.

EDIT: Also did you send it as an e-mail?? or through the secondary application page as a Word document?

Also if you sent it by email, did you simply send it to the normal admissions email address?
 
Complete 7/23, emailed [email protected] 7/25.

I had the same reservations about seeming too pushy since I was only recently complete, but their complete email also indicates that it may be 10 weeks before they review your file, which would have been after my other interview.

Notre Dame undergrad definitely helps (what year did you graduate/are you graduating?); ~10% of ND students who apply to Georgetown tend to get in every year (stats from the ND pre-health office).

In general, going to a Catholic undergrad (whether Jesuit or not) tends to help one's chances at a Catholic med school--their missions match up, causing people often to have experiences at the undergrad school that the med school likes/promotes (service, working with those in poverty, spiritual experiences, etc).


On another note, just submitted my secondary (GT sent it out while I was on vacation and I refused to work on it while relaxing, haha). Hope to have a response soon! 🙂

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any current students can weigh in on this. I have a question about student hosting at Georgetown: Is it set up to be close to the actual campus?
 
Did anyone scheduling an interview in August/September inquire about student hosting? I sent an email to the account they listed in the interview handout but I haven't heard anything yet. Trying to figure out if I should book a hotel just in case...

Could you please expound a little on how you approached the email, i.e., content and length, did you outright say you had an interview at GW as well? I'm in a similar situation. Complete 7/30.

Kept it polite and brief. Said I'd be in the area for an interview at a nearby school, wasn't expecting anything, but would be very grateful if they could review my file beforehand. Something along those lines.
 
I sent an "In the area" email about a week ago and I still haven't heard anything.

Hey guys, I've received a II at Georgetown 8/9 and am super excited. I was wondering since I am from California, how would I go about sending an "in the area email" and when would it be appropriate? What schools are considered "in the area" over there? UVA? Philly Schools (It is like a 2-3 hour drive, also did not apply to GW)? At the same time, should one cite a reason for being in the area or simply mention that you are?

I got the blank email as well.

UPDATE: I just got an email indicating that students are just returning to campus and they will begin to work out a schedule and notify us in 2-3 weeks.

I guess I'm just being too anxious but the last batch of ii's was for my complete date. I'll hold out hope!

...and now a flood of "in the area" emails plagues the Georgetown admissions office.
 
For those who have submitted their secondaries after July 31, how long did it take for your application to be completed? I submitted mine 8/8 and haven't received an email yet...could be that they're just busier now.

I submitted 8/1 and my app was complete on 8/5

i submitted on the 31st and was complete on 8/05

in the email for the secondary submission it said it could take up to 10 business days
