Does anyone know how transportation works between Center City and the Medical School campus? I remember them saying something about a 15 minute subway ride. How late does the subway run till/is it safe? Thanks!

Schedules and maps are on SEPTA's website; as to whether it's safe that's up to you. I'm in lab until 8-9 pm on the regular and I feel fine on the subway, however my employee handbook suggests taking a bus after 6 pm. The only violence I've encountered in Philly was in Center City.

HAs anyone been rejected pre-interview? This wait is killing me.

Thank you! Maybe your well wishes did the trick haha

Yeah, the Broad Street line is supposed to be 15-20 minutes from CC to the HSC. They tell you to get off at Allegheny station because that stop is monitored by the Temple police, but it's at the south end of the HSC and the hospital and MERB are on the north end. A lot of people get off at Erie station and walk to the HSC from there. There are occasionally news reports of stuff going down at Erie but it's usually in the middle of the night or the wee hours of the morning. Keep in mind that, especially for the first two years, you will almost never be coming or going after dark, and you'll be travelling with a lot of other TUSM students that are commuting at the same time. If you are staying late for whatever reason, it would definitely be smarter to leave from Allegheny.

As far as living in Manayunk goes, I think you'd be better off driving. The regional rail system here is organized more or less like the spokes on a wheel. It's VERY easy to get to downtown or TU main campus, though, as it's one of the stops on that track that all the trains from the Manayunk/Montco/Bucks feed into as they head towards downtown Philly. I suppose you could get off at North Broad, then catch a bus or get on the PSL to get to the HSC, but it sounds like a PITA to me compared to living in center city and taking Septa. Google directions says it will take you about twice as long via Septa from Manayunk vs. driving if traffic's OK.

If another TUSM student here lives in Manayunk/Roxborough and I'm wrong, please speak up, but I always got the impression that the CC people usually took Septa and the Manayunk people drove. A lot of them seem to carpool.

As someone else already said, you park in Carlisle and it's a little over $400 for the semester. It's ridiculous, IMO, but you really have no other choice unless you're just coming to campus for 2 hours or less. The meter maids around the school are like sharks and there's not that many spots to begin with. I also wouldn't recommend parking on the side streets more than a block away from MERB, two at most.

Anybody here accepted to the Crozer-Chester campus? 🙂 I'm super excited to start at Temple in August.

I interviewed last week and they said it would take 4-6 weeks for a reply. From your experiences is this accurate or do they usually take less or more time.

Thanks

Thanks for the great info. Do you know what the average rent/month costs in Philly? Seems like CC is more expensive and Mayanuk is slightly cheaper, but I don't know about other options. I remember something about a class list for living options being sent out in April but I haven't received any word about that. Do most people live alone (or with SO) or do roommate situations still occur?

I'm not quite sure what the rents in those areas typically are, but if you look on Craigslist you can get an idea. I never pay attention to housing things in the weekly email we get because they don't apply to me. I do think Manayunk is cheaper. Lots of people room with their SO but lots of other people have roommates, either other TUSM students, other medical students from the other schools, or students from other professional schools in the area.

As far as other areas... there's Port Richmond and Fishtown, NE Philly (much more residential) and the northwest suburbs (Cheltenham/Elkins Park or even farther north on montco are a pretty simple commute down 611/broad street).

Disclaimer - When I say center city I also mean some areas a little beyond the borders of that area, like the Art museum area to the NW and Queens Lane/Bella Vista to the SSE. I know at least some of the people in my class live by the Art Museum... I'm not as sure about Queen's Lane and Bella Vista but if I was going to live downtown I think I'd want to live there... near the Italian market.

I live just east of the Italian Market, and rent varies; I pay $450+Utilities for a tiny bedroom in a house right now, but I've seen studios around $750-800 and one bedrooms $850-950. Most were explicitly cat friendly, very few welcomed dogs.

That is REALLY affordable for 1 bedroom/studios! This is great to know thanks.

For anyone who has submitted a letter of interest, did you do that on the "send us stuff" tab or send it via email to the admissions office?

I used the send us stuff tab a few days ago. I haven't seen any confirmation email or anything.

Any accepted people receiving weird mails from Temple Computer Services? I got the exact same mail from Temple Computer Services like 5 times.

If you (or anybody else) wanna start thinking about roommates/places to live early, then shoot me a PM. I'm pretty much 100% going to be matriculating to TUSM over my other schools and would like to room with a fellow Temple student. I notice you have a Last Of Us avatar, so we have being nerds in common already.

I'm so bitter that's for PS3 only. I'm praying for an HD/Ultimate Edition/Whatever you wanna call it money-grab where they polish it and sell it on the PS4 because the husband and I have a 360 but want the next-gen Playstation.

Not sure if this has been asked already, but any recommendations as far as flights/hotels/car for an OOS applicant interviewing at the St. Luke's campus? My interview is for 02/04 and I'm a little late on confirming travel plans. Already, flights seem much cheaper flying into PHL than ABE, but PHL is 80 miles away from the campus.

I've tried PMing you, but SDN seyz I'm not allowed to...

When were you complete, stats, all that jazz?

complete 9/17

As a side note, I also sent them an in the area email two weeks ago as well, but too bad I just returned from Philly.... Not sure if this had helped as well.

Exciting! How far off is the interview?

Hi everyone, I am super excited at my acceptance here last week. I loved the school. I just have to give some consideration to the area of philly the main campus is in. That being said, how do we find out which campus we have been accepted to?

It's listed on your snail mail acceptance letter.

In our acceptance letter and on the website it says we are to forward a copy of our official transcripts from every school we've attended. Is this the same as our AMCAS transcript schools? Anyone know when they;re due? I emailed the Admissions Office and got a curt, non-informative reply; is this normal for Temple's administration?

How many weeks after your interview did you get the acceptance.

And congrats

I don't know when they're due, but certain departments are scattered here. The upside is they also are flexible with deadlines. I have friends who only just submitted their child abuse clearance (which was theoretically needed to matriculate) and it's no problem. I expect of you get the transcripts in before you start you'll be totally fine. You'll get specific details on what you need in the spring, so try not to sweat it just yet.

I'm assuming it's anytime before matriculating. Nothing written in my letter either but on the site it says starting April they'll start having the paperwork and pre-orientation available so I'm guessing due date will be a while from now. So I suppose for now we can just relax and enjoy a nice beer or two. Congratulations on your acceptance.

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but does anyone know if and when there will be a second look day?

There's some information here about pre-orientation requirements:
http://www.temple.edu/medicine/admissions/accepted_applicants/pre_orientation_information.htm

It doesn't have any direct information on when anything is due though.
